something with a type of spring or hydrolic impact absorbing system..someone said something about it the other day

isnt the purpose of poles to like, have sometihng to push off of? thats what i use em for. and wouldnt springs sorta take that away? just a thought

my dad has a pair. they are pretty old poles from the 80's. they really dont do much beside make a litte sound inside when you poke something hard

someone made some old spring loaded poles in the 80's and someone tried it again in the 90's. It might have beeen the same people who made those weird leg knee support shock systems for old people. I think they were an overall failure.

i used a pair earlier this year after breaking my good poles. You really can't tell a difference, except they're much more fun to poke stuff with.

im almos sure that they are for treking, and snowshoesing, and other stuff like that. composite poles give enough shock reduction anyway.

they look no different than regular ski poles. the pole just slides into the handle an inch farther when it's compressed. the spring mechanism is hidden entirely in the handle.

def. not, unless ur a park rat, which i suppose they think of poles as propulsion. they are meant for timing

i meant more like in turns and stuff...yeah i use them on flat ground for propulsion, but most people i know use them at least a lil to turn

what a retarded thing to say. what if you're traversing? Pretty sure that was the point of poles to begin with. god you're dumb.

poles are used for both propulsion and balance. the whole idea of a pole plant is to bring your body up over the front/middle of the ski so you can initiate your turn and get the most out of your ski. obviously they are good for pushing yourself as well, there's no reason to agrue over which is more important...

Completely destroys the point of carrying poles in skiing. What if you need to... defend yourself from a yeti? If you use compact poles, this WILL happen to you!

Not really... I fractured rib doing a revert 360 this year that went 450. I landed square on my pole and cracked a rib. Anything that could help me not bust up my ribcage would be much appreciated.

wow, that gos on my list of dum comments, yes they are for timing, but they are used for propulsion too, when you skating to the chair you pushing with your poles, when your traversing your pushing with your poles and when you hiking your using your poles to help pull you up/ give you balance. But a pole with a shock wouldnt help you much for any of those

I have seen lots of people that use them for hiking. They wouldent really make a difference if u landed on them becuase they slide less then an inch and wouldent help on a big impact.

my friend had one last year, he could throw it at the ground and because there was a spring in the tip it could like rebound back really fast

^yeah the only reason they would help is of you were injured. other than they they would defeat the purpose of poles
