Lucked out and got a permit somehow. Thinking about going tomorrow with a friend but I’ve never done St. Helens before. Anyone got any tips? Advice? Seems pretty mellow but idk

I did like 7 or eight years ago. It's very mellow and totally worth doing. Ski crampons are probably a good idea if you have them, if not, be prepared to bootpack the top part. Have fun, it's a beautiful part of the world!

unfortunately i didn't have ski crampons but still made it to the top without bootpacking, definitely woulda been a bit easier with ski crampons though haha. it was beautiful though that's for sure. have you done mt adams and/or rainer?

Nice! It's a cool one, huh!? I've actually never owned ski crampons, but I've had plenty of days that would have been easier with them haha.

Yep, I did Adams like the weekend after I did Hellens I think? Definitely more of an undertaking. More vert, and much more potential for challenging terrain up top, past the false summit. All those cascade volcanoes are really cool and worth doing, all with varying levels of difficulty and danger.
