Anyone ever been stuck on a lift?

there is already a thread on this

but once in whistler i was stuck for ten minutes on really windy part and it the chair was rly shaky but wasnt to bad

yep got stuck on the main high speed quad in NZ for about 2 hours, late afternoon, fucking cold.

Had to be manually winched off.

All they offered us was a cup of water. I wanted a free half-day pass. fuckers

the double at my old mountain died all the time, would take 10-30 min. to get going again, one time we had to be evacuated with ropes and shit, i dont think they did it by the book though, it was a pretty ghetto operation

Got stuck at winter park for like an hour once, it didn't seem like there was anything wrong with the lift when it came back on though, so it was really weird and I got mad.

i wasn't personally stuck on a lift, but it was on a school trip and some students were on the lift, so we got to stay and ski for an extra hour, so that was cool.

I have, for a half hour, and right below the spot where the lift was only 8 feet off the ground. Then the backup motor kicked on and got us above that low point to the highest point, then it stopped. I thought we were fucked. We sat on the lift for 10 more minutes before the backup started working again and we got off. I've also got stuck at the bottom of the lift at least 3 times. This is possible because Spirit is an upside-down ski area ("base" lodge at the top). Usually the make us hike a quarter of a mile to the nearest lift. It is usually 40 degrees. I am almost always wearing my jacket when this happens.

For an hour once, they were about to get a latter or some shit or rope us down, but then they got it fixed. Sucked sooooo much.

I had a lift stop on my friend and me once then after about 10 minutes it started going backwards, stopped again for another 10 minutes, then took us to the top. It was really weird

umm jiminy peak got stuck, friend dropped his goggles and didnt feel like waiting to get then so jumped off the lift, kneed himself in the face and got a bloody lip i think if i remember correctly

yah i got stuck there to. was summer so there was no snow but there was a monster thunderstorm and freezing rain. and they stopped the lift in the middle of the storm had to sit there for like 10 min and then once we got to the top they wouldnt let anybody down on the alpine slide. seemed real stupid

I was at Sun Peaks once and somebody hit a powerline with their car and I was stuck on the lift for an hour. We had a hotel room but the hotel didn't have a generator so they had no food. So we starved all night until the power came back.

it is not much of a story but our lift sucks so it dies a lot and takes like 30 minutes to start back up.

i got stuck on the tenney double chair at 9AM on a powder day when no one was there. it was freezing too i was so mad. i was stuck there for a solid hour or so. and if anyone knows that summit chair it takes forever to get to the top and i could see the base lodge from where i was stuck from

at camp fortune got stuck at night for an hour... that suck a huge one... then at tremblant last season the temp whent up and down so much the engines for the lifts couldnt handle it and we got stuck once for an hour and half and once for 45 min ended up gettin a refund (cept it was in caffatria dollars)

steamboat's gondola cable was way fucking old last year and it would always trip out the safety shit.. it'd stop, and then reverse, stop, forward, reverse some more, and would just generally stumble around like a stoned walrus..

Definitely been stuck many a times. Got stuck on the snowbird gondala once, and on smaller lifts Ive been backed up for 30 minutes at a time fosho, out in my local mountain.

i got stuck on a lift at mtrose with some crazy drunk tweeker lady for an hour talking about how her and her friends got wasted the other night, then she tried to get me to jump off, then she started yelling at all the people in front of us it was awkard

One of our firends thats slow and we are forced to hang out with him. He was saying he was going to jump off the chairlift the whole 5 minutes we were on there. He then accidently slipped and somehow me and another firend grabbed his arms and we went like 5 more minutes while he was hanging below the chairlift. When we finally got to the lift we dopped him in the net.

Last year i was stuck on a lift at northstar near the end of the day, so i was like shit did they forget about us!?? fUCK, well luckily the lift started 20 mins later and i was the last one off the mountain at 4:10pm.

speaking of forgetting, i knew a girl whose sister worked at mountain creek and she was the liftie at the top of the mtn. and for some reason she was up there like 15 minutes after it closed and she brought her board up there to ride back down at the end of her shift so she did just that. but she said on the way down, they shut all the lights off and she was in complete darkness. that'd suck

lift got stuck for 20-30 mins once at Brookvale last year. It was on a really busy day so it was packed, too. my bro and soem of my friends happened to not be on the lift at the time and they were able to hike the park. Sucked soooo. much sitting there 20 feet in the air watching everyone else in the park.

Old double at this tiny hill near me. I was like 12 or 13 and riding solo during night skiing. Died for 30 minutes, it was fairly cold. Then the backup motor came on and it creeped extremely slowly to the top which took another 30 minutes.

Free hot chocolate afterwards made it all worthwhile.

yup, for an hour, it was -25C, and bout -35C with the wind chill, the wind was howlin, the four of us on the chair cuddled up cuz it was sooo cold

all i got to say if ur on a lift and it starts rolling back for more than 50 feet jump , u have a better chance of living.

cause once it gets going it just starts tossing people off at the bottom as it goes around the bull wheel. real bad it has happend in france befor there was like 6 ppl killed

i got stuck a sugarbush going on slide brook but i jumped, it was nice, there was a pretty good amount of powder.

last year we had a chair fall off the lift and everyone was stuck on it thing forever, they ended up having to evac everyone who was on it.

i got stuck on a lift last year at canyons, it broke down, so we had to evac, and some buses came and got everyone, but they had no room, so i walked down to base, and got two free day passes, it was worth it cause we just rode down. and by the time we got back to the park no one was there so we had it to ourselves.

i got stuck on a lift in chamonix this one time, was on there for like 2 hours and it was super cold, it was litterally 5 metres out of the lift station too, eventually they got this bulldozer, digger thing to come and get us, two workers came up in the scoop, and took our skis off and got us into it, pitty fun time, but all we got was a letter of apology.

yeah like 15 feet from the top the lifty let us jump off...opening weekend mind you...power surges all weekend on the chair...

OH BOY this is my fav ski story, It was my 15th birthday, and it was my last run with a 6 year old student i had been teaching. (i'm an instructor). But anyway, the lift broke down and we didn't see any sign of help for an hour. After i made 3 or 4 phone calls to the owner, we finally got help after an hour and a half. It was freezing and windy up there. Everyone had to be evacuated with a rope and harness and had to sit on what looked to be a shovelhead. When i touched the gorund, i couldnt feel my hands or toes at all. It was so bad that i coudlnt even take my skis off becuase i had no feeling in my hands at all. Let's just say i skipped having birthday cake to sleep and warm up for the rest of the day.

once, at the lowest spot, and there was a hella of alotta powder under me. After the first 5 min, i asked the other 3 people that were next to me, if we could raise the safty bar for a second. when they did that i jumped of. One older lady thought i fell off.

my uncle was, back in the 80s. and they like lassoed the chair, and then he like lid down the roped and a then he fell on a buch of ski patrolers.

A long time inthe wind at Jay. It sucked- it was wicked windy -we could look staight out and the chair was so tipped we were looking at the ground.

It sucked it was a long time too.
