Anyone else's parents not understand the sport?

Was showing my mom some traveling circus and she was like," why are the going on those rails, that's not skiing, what is this. What's a box and why would you want to go in it..." She told me that wasn't skiing and that I should just go down the hill like everyone else. Anyone else having these problems.

Yes op same here. My mom walks by me while on ns and asks, why are those guys dressed like gangsters? I'm just like mom they're supposed to look like hat -_-

Not even joking at all. My sister was on Nick Goepper's sisters gymnastics team and our moms would talk and she tried explaining to my mom why she lets nick ski almost every night. My mom never questioned me doing park. I'm not even joking at all I've seen him on the tramps at the place where my sister trained. (Cincinnati Gymnastics Academy). You can believe me or you can't but what ever.

My mom is extremely over protective and doesn't want me doing any inverts. My dad on the other hand is like "let him do whatever the fuck he wants."

i don't believe you.

Don't really have that problem with my parents but none of my friends understand it, or they think I'm a snowboarder..

My parents are super scared about me competing in the junior freeride tour that i have to wear an abs every damn time i do pow. The simply watched youtube videos of people dying under avalanches

my parents see how happy i can be after a good day of skiing so they clearly know to let me do it if it what really makes me happy

My dad taught me and my brother how to ski and is super cool about it. He bought me new gear when I needed it growing up, always paid for my passes, and took me at least once or twice a week. He did the same for my brother too. Then, last summer he helped me build a summer set up in our backyard. My dad's fucking awesome.

My Parents just CANNOT understand wearing big clothes, its like a foreign language they just have no clue

Honestly when you look back when you are older you will think it was ridiculous.

My mom is indifferent and my dad supports me (he helped build my summer setup) but still insists that its "lazy" and that only backcountry skiing is real skiing.

My parents don't let me buy more pairs of skis but they are totally cool with me buying an $1100 bike.

Fucking logic. I have to make my J's last three seasons which seems impossible.

Fatherhood. Sounds like this guy is doing it right.

When I showed my mom what a hippy killer was, she said,"wow, so this is what skiing has come to."

my parents didnt understand the whole tall clothes thing back in like 2011 but they finally got used to it. They were never against me skiing, they can tell its the thing i'm most passionate about and if i'm doing what makes me happy they support it 100%.

one day you all will grow up and understand your parents were right all along.

skiing on rails is stupid.

Parents are lame and my goal is to be more fun than them.

Why should we conform to the boring, normal way of living life Just because we are getting older?

I'll ski park until it kills me.

My parents love it. My dad got my brother and I into skateboarding, because he was into it in the 70s. When we finally got good instead of sending us to normal summer camp, we got sent to Woodward. Some parents do get it. Moms are always nervous though, probably cause I have showed up too many times with holes in my body.

Both parents are skiers. My dad was a ski bum in the 80s.

They hated the fact that I skied park when I first started but now they love it. They just can't wrap their heads around the style trends.

I always skated and mtn biked so my folks were used to me coming home torn up, so when I turned 18 I bounced and moved to mt hood and haven't left in 4 years. My parents always bitch about me "getting a real job" so that I wont be "living in poverty" but they still send care packages and send me links whenever some ski crap makes it to the outside world.

All in all parents will worry but will let you do what makes you happy. Moving away from home brought me closer to family in a sense.

I grew up in a sort of action sports kind of family, We were never really interested in regular sports, just dirtbiking, snowmobiling, mountain biking stuff etc..., so they never cared what I did on skis, although they don't understand a lot of it right away since my parents don't really ski, but they supported me a lot in terms of rides to the hill and they eventually caught on, but yeah I always used to get the "ohhhh so you're a snowboarder" comment as soon as I mentioned the park.

That's actually a pretty respectable opinion. At least he realizes what extreme skiing is all about and supports you. He certainly doesn't sound like some grandma who has no idea what freestyle is. Does he shred backcountry hard?

My dad really got me into to skiing. He taught me almost everything about skiing. From turning to hockey stops to my first 360 he always was there. Now my mom on the other side barely knows what a box is.

Not really. He's 53 with shitty back and knees. By backcountry, I mean skinning up and making half assed turns down

No one truly understands the sport until they've actually done it. Until you've had progression sessions on rails and jumps, cruised through the park with the crew, sent lines off piste, etc, you won't understand it.

its true haha she especially likes watching tc style coach to get the afterbang on point (no joke)

My dad is pretty chill because he used to be a back country pro and still gets hooked up with some gear through old friends. I used to snowboard till my dad got me skiing now I cant stop. He most of the time will hook me up with passes and gear and help me become a pro or a ski bum but because i live with my mom and only talk to her side of the family none of them get it I'm going to windells for my birthday but a few people in the fam said it seems like just a big party and why would you want to do that stuff trained or not and they half support me but my mom is a safety freak about stuff. Other than my uncle and my dad no one fully supports me except my mom but she is weird and wishes I would wrap my self in bubble wrap and maximum padding possible before I do anything but she is letting me build a summer set up so she is cool. When my grandma saw the x games she a like "How do they ski backwards like that isn't that dangerous why are their clothes so big like gangsters." I just moved to Boise from Sun valley and NO ONE skies at my school or doesn't ask why my clothes are so big.

My rossignol scratches have lasted my 3 years soon to be 4 and I only get like 75 days a year though

Why do you always have to ski in such tight trees? Why don't you make turns? Why do you have to go so fast? I think you're going to die.
