i fuckin pisses me off! i just want to shoot someone! and then they say fucking like poker or something is a sport.....ignorant jerks

really? wow. guess its just people around me...but espn does have poker on it and they are sports network. i guess it sucks for me then cuz i got to deal with all these idiots

yea but people around me are still like "Skiing is for homos! Snowboarders are rebels! Lets be like them!"

DUDE I KNOW exACTLY WHAT YOU FUCKIN MEAN!!! there is this really fat kid i work with and hes a wrestler (yea i know) and he was asking me what sports i do and i told him skiing and he said "well i wouldnt really call skiing a sport" so i immeadiatly follow up with "well wrestling isnt really a sport" so he goes in this kind of no your wrong voice "wrestling IS a sport" and then i just stare at him and say, "exactly" he kinda shut up after that

MY opinion:

Skiing, snowboarding, skateboarding, lollerskateing, etc. all sports. A great deal of physical coordination and strenght are required to do them well, along with some sort of physical fitness, plus a competition factor.

Dance (ballet, modern, whatever) = dance. Not a sport. I have a ton of respect for dancers, i know a whole bunch here at the U. I think it deserves it's own category.

Poker, Golf = NOT SPORTS. Recreations. Therefore, they should NOT ever be on ESPN. I think the hype around them is stupid.

Bowling... maybe? I don't know where to put it. sorta in the grey areas, along with ping pong.

no one has ever told me that but i do hate it when people think i gaper ski. like "oh what do u like to do" "ski" and it sounds like gaper skiing (well my mt./area is gaper skiing or park so...)

I'm not big on poppin caps but I do really want to give them a good punch to the face.

My roommate said that, and I showed him three things: x-games slopestyle, teddybear crisis, and the eric pollard self edit.

He was blown away. It takes an incredible amount of athleticism to be amazing at skiing, so for all you who think skiing is gay or like poker or something...get yourself informed and stop looking like a complete retard.

bahahahhahahaaaa. you put lollerskating.

and I agree with your categories. there needs to be a new thing for all that dance ballet stuff.

and I really wish people wouldn't thing of gaper skiing when I say I'm a skier.

when i wear my "I Am A Skier" tee to school, i get at least 50 comments on how ghey it is, or random people coming up to me and saying something like "0we Muy Gawsh mE T000" it pisses me off becuase they probably have straight skis from 1836 or something and have never seen freestyle skiing at its finest. but hey, it shouldnt matter

Just laugh at there ignorance and move on , who cares what others think? You like it right? there is you answer.

skiing is definitely not a sport. You just stand on the skis and slide downhill. It's like driving a car, only easier. It takes no athletic ability whatsoever. Everybody knows that.

competitive skiing is a sport. like racing and x games. thats sport. because you're putting your body in danger for the sake of competition. but just skiing in general is a hobby, and i like it better that way. there is nothing better than just relaxing with your friends and having a good day on the mountain.

fortunately for other people i've never heard anyone say that but if they did it would be a fucking bloodbath... and yes, i get that angry when it comes to skiing arguements

ok ok ok i might get major flaming for this but, he is right about the athleticism part

e health or pussy footer is fat!!!!

and is a better skier than me and im in 10000000 times better shape, than him dont say any thing about "claimer"

i get super annoyed with people when i wear my shirt too. the most common thing i hear is "wait, are you a skier?" i don't even answer people.

i think skiing is more of a sport than hockey or football...those are games to me, not sports.

As long as you show that skiing is a competitive activity, it proves that it is a sport. WHich is incredibly easy, whether you compete or not.

u dont NEED to be that athletic but u dont in baseball or football (if u play offensive line) but i think most of us agree that those are both sports

i kill people when they tell me skiing is for fags and snowboardings better

and if someone ever tells me skiings gay..they=dead

i find what you said about offensive line offensive( no pun intended). i play offensive line and it actually takes athletic skills. you just don't stand there and push people you run cut block and a bunch of shit like that.

i fucking hate people like that

there is this gay ass hockey playing asian at my school

and hes like skiing is not a sport because it is judged

i was like fuck you, hocky just a barfight on ice.

just dont let it bother you bro. i went through this shit before people knew what the sport was really about. they will soon figure it out.

i agree with you except for golf. i assume that you haven't played golf much, because its not something you can just try once, and be good at it. and to be good, it takes a lot of time.

I dont really have the arguement that skiing isnt a sport but my friends tell me its gay all the time, especialy when I summer ski. Most of my friends have never seen me on the mountian either so they dont really know what I do. They dont realize that booters can be pretty big, I think most kids that dont ski dont even realize that the jumps skiers hit are huge.

I think skiing is what you make it for yourself. If you train for it and get prepared for it like an organized school sport then yes, it is deffintly a sport. But some people out there just go out buy some stuff for skiing and go on the hill and have a good time, thats a hobbie.(nothing wrong with that)

I hate the whole sport argument. Being an ultimate frisbee player and skier I find myself having it way too often and every time all I realize is that language is just words that we make up to represent things and in many cases, like with sport, it's just way to vaguely defined and it's not really anyones place to say what falls under it. call it whatever you want does it really matter if it is called a sport or not? whatever you call it it's still the same exact thing.

On dictionary.com it has fucking 14 definitions as a noun, and they cover pretty much everything anyone has ever claimed to be a sport and then some... so I guess arguing that something isn't a sport is gonna be a lot more difficult.

Pisses me off too. Its always hockey kids that say it too. I just want to shoot there kneecaps when they say it.

News flash boys and girls: skiing is no more a sport than golf is. What?! Yeah. Sure skiing takes coordination, but totally different than hand-eye coordination. Millions of people can be good skiers, but far less people can be good golfers. I am not bashing skiing, it is my all-time favorite thing to do. However, I never skied in high school because I was playing three team sports a year, which, I would argue, require much more practice and 'coordination' than skiing. When people saying skiing isn't a sport, get over it. The fact that you get upset when someone makes that claims shows that you have doubt in your mind. If you believe truly that it takes just as much talent as being a wide receiver in football or the quickest point guard then I would disagree whole-heartedly. It is a different kind of skill set, and let's leave it at that

omg i HATE when i tell people i ski like crazy... they are just like "skiing? that not really a sport is it?" i flip shit and say like uhh hell yeah skiing is a sport

i remember last year during my last day of gym class it was realy cold outside but fucking hot in the locker room and i was asking to coach to let us out cuz it was hot and he was like "you must not play any sports do you?" i wanted to fucking kill him. the way he said it pissed me off so much. but no ones ever told me skiings not a sport

hey dude, shut the hell up. stop acting like u r important and that u know everything, because im 200% sure that u dont. first of all no one said that it takes more athleticism to be a wide reciever or a point guard than a good skier. Also, coordination is NOT everything that sports are about. Its about competition, timing, reactions, improvement, guts, etc. GOLF sure as hell doesnt take any timing, reaction, or guts for that matter (unless ur tiger woods or phil mickelson and u constantly putt for a major win on 18, last time i checked u r not either of those people) Look at John Daly! Hes like 50 years old and about 60 pounds overweight (as said before). He may not win all the time, but when he IS good, hes VERY good. You cant have a 50 year old fatass competing at a SPORT. Golf is fun, challenging, and entertaining (to play, not watch), but its not a sport. Skiing is.
