Anyone else ever wonder how tf some people ollie so high

So I am a somewhat newer skier (started 2 yrs ago) but i consider myself decent. I can ski pretty much anything within the ropes, and some park. But I just cannot understand how some skiers ollie so damn high. Youd think it'd be leg strength and Ive got some pretty damn strong legs. Then i see these skinny ass dudes ollieing like 4 feet into the air and i just cant get anywhere close to that. It's frustrating too cuz I cant hit some of the big features in the park because youve gotta get way up there. Anyone else have these thoughts?

The trick is to wait a little longer than you'd think to bring your tails up. Have someone take a vid of you from the side of you just flexing the ski without the pop and you'd be surprised as to how high you can get it up.

Hmm when it comes to hitting big features you don't really need to 'ollie' per se, it's just a jumping motion off the lip same as a jump.

But yea, when you see the track-pant-vishnu-illicit-substance gang ollie like 4ft fences and stuff that's super impressive. I think it's all about rocking as far back as possible and pushing all your weight through the tails as you take off. Not something I can currently replicate though ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Hey their edgelords get it right man there gonna be offended

Your weight is a factor, your ski needs to have enough pop for your weight, and the move requires more fast twitch muscles that are used for instantaneous strong movement. If you have a solid poppy ski you will improve as you get the timing and muscle memory considerably, at least that’s what worked for me, saw some guys hop some ropes with no lip years and years ago and had to learn that.

On a skateboard, the height of your ollie isnt determined by how high you can jump, it’s actually determined by how high you can suck your legs up

dang, good comparison man. If you can pop decently high and then pull your knees into your chest you can get wayyy up there

Always thought the Vishnu noodle jokes were funny but finally got to take a pair for a few laps in the park yesterday and it is by far the flexiest ski I’ve ever clicked into.

I never appreciated how much that kind of ski can make a difference in presses, butters, and ollies.

Get vishnus, track pants, and consume every illicit substance you can it’ll help a ton

I always thought it was tails when I was younger (maybe it is) but I’ve seen a big difference in my own pop from really exploding off my toes. “Bolts off, Bolts on” is what I tell myself to pop off toes and land on toes.
