Anyone been to Solitude?

So my flight leaves tomorrow night and my first day of skiing is friday!!It looks like they dont have anything good for snow.

Should i bring my pow skis or leave them on the east coast?

And anyone know some good spots in Honeycomb?

+k for answers and bumps

-k for being a dick

solitude is great, but this time of the season there is a lot of rocks like everywhere else in utah. bring your pow skis if you wont mind a few core shots or scratches. otherwise stay on the groomers. i was there last weekend and the groomers were great and not crowded at all.

going to have to disagree on the pow skis...dont bring them. it snowed today and is snowing tonight but thats it for a while, at most they will get 8 inches. i skied brighton today and they had about 3-4" of fresh pow in the trees, i found some places that hadnt been skied on since the last storm (last week) and while it was fun to actually ski in some snow that went to my calf, i still hit a TON of rocks and stumps and stuff. im skiing solitude tomorrow, so ill see how it is, im still expecting to hit some rocks but i just want to ski some sort of pow, sick of groomers.

so after all that, just bring skis you dont mind messing up, but by friday, there wont be any need for pow skis

I mean, it snowed a little bit and suppose to get 2-4 tonight... you'll be lucky if more than 50% of the mountain will be open, utah is hurtin right now. Bring the pow skis just in case Ullr decides to bless utah.

Yeah its pretty sick.

I bought there house there and got all the upgrades but was kinda dissapointed.

Still joined the imperial army though. Hopefully some of those quests will be fun.

no sir. was planning on making a comment similar to the one above. but he obviously beat me to it... haha.

We are spoiled...but theres rocks everywhere...I can barely ride for 10 minutes without cringing because my skis are getting raped....that being said I cant stick to groomers but they're just ice anyways...if you can fit both skis, bring em both, but if not, just bring the pair you don't mind getting a couple scratches in.

Just came in.. it was soooooooooooooooo good, yeah there were a ton of rocks and stuff but some places in honeycomb were insanee, it was like midthigh deep untouched pow

damn mid thigh deep untouched pow days after the 5" storm on an ultra low snow year. i guess thats why they call it solitude.

wel i guess that poeple are dissapointed becasue they are comparing it to last year, i remember a little just that i hit that went over the top of 2 little trees like 3 feet out of the snow, and this year the same place was like a full sized tree

We're def spoiled after last season, but even still... going off the groomers is suicide right now if you like your skis. There's just enough snow to make it look ok, but a few turns in and the hidden teeth (esp in the Cottonwoods) reveal themselves in a very unforgiving way. I've taken three coreshots (very small, mercifully) in the past month (2 at Alta, 1 at Bird) and that was going veeeery slow and really trying to be careful. Just sticking to groomers until I know it's safe at this point.

That said, I've seen videos from the east where I used to ski and I can see how anyone coming from that thinks Utah is epic right now. It's all about perspective, I just happened to move out here last year during nuclear winter and lost mine quickly.

haha ik dude, i brought my new ep pro's and i was like checking them every 5 minutes, but i went to the lift house and bought 2 sticks of p-tex and i brought my waxing stuff
