seems like i keep hearing about avalanches. thinking about heading down this weekend. anyone checked it out yet this year?
 
Been trying to go for a month now. Is it for sure gonna be open this weekend? I need to get outside, this weather is really starting to piss me off.
 
well went down there, had a great time. stayed at a buddy's cabin outside of red lodge. drove the highway. there wasn't a ton of snow up there, but lots of big patches still. half of our group skied hourglass couloir, and the other half (myself included) skied a more gaper-ish, roadside run. it was a blast. turns on july 1st. maybe 800 or 1000 vertical.
 
Nice, did hour glass have good cover? How did the ski area look? Just curious because this could have been a good year for them. Was Rock Creek Headwall skiable?
 
the crux of hourglass looked pretty narrow, but still skiable. is rock creek where they have the lift? That area was totally covered still.
 
Rock Creek is the first skiable headwall driving up the switchbacks from the Red Lodge side. You park near the top of the pass, walk east across the tundra, drop in off the top, ski down to the road and hitch hike back up.
