no it doesnt, it just means you quit smoking pot and drinking, its a moral system in which you base your life off of. Not all "edge" people have tattoes, i dont, i know alot of kids that are straightedge, and the only person i know that has a tattoo consisting of XXX or anything to do with straight edge, is actually a really pot head who happens to be a tattoo artist and got it done as a joke. But again its totally personal choice, Why do people get religious tattoos? its the same fucking idea just a different fucking symbol! gah. yeah and that quote is bogus, i dont know any edge kid that wouldnt die laughing if they read that quote, its shit. yeah hopefully you get thepoint now that i just basically repeated myself.

not that at all, i said it was retarded because unless your reasoning for having a closed off discussion with people who are only "straight edge" in that cult is because you think your better than us or you don't want are opinions on something because we take our daily doses of THC and down a 40 every once in a while, and that our mind set is effected because of that and is there for invalid for you well than your just a tool.

If you think for one second that I am close minded and that everything I don't like is retarded well your dead wrong I fucking hate skiing, I don't enjoy it I found that when I was learning to do it, the motions of turning and all that were just boring to me, I started snowboarding and I fell in love with it. But does that mean I think any one who skis is "retarded" hell no, the only people I go up to the mountain with are skiers, I hang out with those kids all year round, and don't have a problem with a single one of them.

So how about you go ahead and take a look in the mirror before you go passing judgment on other people
 
Its different because those usually lead to entertaining stories. Some of my best life experiences were while I've been drunk, high, or both.

I've never heard a good story begin with "Dude... I was sooo SOBER last night!"
 
People identify as "straight edge" for the same reason that others identify as "stoners"...a desire to feel a sense of belonging and or identity.

I find that those who refer to themselves or their traits/preferences in the third person are tragically insecure.

It's absolutely perfectly fine to decide not to indulge in mind or mood altering substances...many do so without even a hint of self-righteousness.

However, to characterize yourself as "straight edge" inherently suggests that this is a major piece to who you are, and it carries a connotation. A parallel that comes to mind would be identifying as a Vegan as opposed to choosing just not to eat/use animal byproducts.

Being "edge" (do people actually say that? How cringe worthy) as opposed to simply choosing not to get fucked up, is every bit as corny as wearing "Legalize It!" t shirts and tagging shit with 420 as opposed to just enjoying smoking weed.

Sober individuals choose such a lifestyle for a ton of different reasons....what about that one choice is so monumental that it warrants a community of "like minded individuals" to form a cult (completely excluding AA and other 12 step programs whose function is to help those who find it impossible to stay clean and sober on their own)?

Anyway, personal belief. Why not live life to its fullest and enjoy it the best you can. The only reason I don't do drugs (ive never tried any) is cause I dont want to like something that I can't afford. Ild rather spend that money traveling and getting drunk. I have friends that can afford the life and control it. Maybe 10 years from now that will be me. But I've got too much on my plate at the moment. I just cant justify being completely sober for the rest of my life. People have never been completely sober. Even monkeys get drunk. So why start now...

The term Straight Edge sounds so stupid, I don't care if you drink or smoke or not don't go around saying straight edge it makes you sound like an idiot, what's the point of being able to say your straight edge. Smoke or don't smoke, drink or don't drink, no one cares what you do. No need to claim it or preach it or anything. Just do your own thing.

why do people get tattoos with other peoples names, or people who have died? its not because they want everyone to know. its because it means something to them. you dont get tattoos to impress other people, you get them for yourself. straight edge tattoos are not to show other people that you are edge, its because that is part of your life, and its important to you.

 
Don't act like you know what I've experienced or seen, I KNOW i have experienced alot different things than you have, and therefore i have a different veiw on things than you do. I have opened my mind and i CHOSE not to do drugs.. i said i DONT have anything wrong with people who do drugs i just said it was my PERSONAL CHOICE.

I think that if i were to brag, i can complain wherei hear other people bragging about getting high or drunk or w.e which is why i dont brag, actually i dont tell anyone im straight edge unless they ask or if i want to join in on something (like the cult). I also think its wrong to force your veiws on other people, which is why im not telling people they shouldnt drink/do drugs because itsnone of my business. But at the same time, i dont appreciate being told i should do drugs or drink.. but i get that all the time, and its just a waste of time to say anything back so i just take what they have to say and keep my mouth closed.. its when people insult me i think i have the right to say something back. The opinions you get forced on you when your straight edge is now seeming like its all too much, like i may as well just be someone who does drink or do drugs, its like its not worth it. I also hate those straight edge kids who like to show it off with tattoes and shirts that say stuff like "drugs are for sluts" bcause its forcing their veiws on other people. I seriously dont have anything against people who do drugs or drink or the drugs and alcohol themselves, i just dont want to try it, id rather do something else

Everybody has their own lifestyle. "Live and let live" as the FIRST POST said. In my opinion, people who tell everyone that they are straight edge are annoying, and those that claim that they are high 24/7 are even more annoying. I don't give a fuck, do what you want to do because it doesn't affect me. I'm going to live my life as I want to, and your personal beliefs aren't going to change mine.

I'm not trying to change anyone.. i dont know where your getting that from :/. The only reason why im claiming it in here because its a straight edge thread you moron. And as far as my name goes, it firstly happens to be something else, it started way before NS i happen to use it for everything. and not everyone knows it means straight edge, you could say im just representing, theres nothing wrong with that, and i could just be decorating my name like alot ofother people do with stars. X's dont just mean straight edge so my name doesnt really claim straight edge, and im not changing it.
 
Glad to see you resorted to name calling because you are completely failing in your point to prove that you are not bragging about being "straight-edge" or displaying your feelings of being superior due to being "straight-edge"

Also, note my use of quotations around "straight-edge". I'm using them because it's the biggest farce for a movement ever. Just say you don't drink, don't smoke, ect. Don't label yourself. It is none better than emos and goths being anti-conformist, while all being the same as one another. It is nothing but a cry for attention, approval and acceptance.
 
mmmmmmmno I dont buy that when people are tattooing "drug free" across their knuckles and giant black X's on their hands and neck.

when you do that youre obviously trying to send a message to everyone who sees you. it's like a ski tattoo or a bike tattoo or even a gang tattoo, it tells the people around you that your apart of some demographic, it gives you a culture to identify with.

i have plenty of friend that have s.e tattoos, and still go to parties and hang out with people, and do not give anyone shit for drinking or smoking. granted the second anyone calls them a pussy for being edge they will fuck you up. either way, they did not get edge tats to claim to people that they are edge
