Anybody know how to build a Sail boat

kinda on topic and less complicated. I wanna build this. who's got an idea of what to use as floats?

My friends uncle built a 15 ft boat out of fiberglass and it was a lot of hard work. 30-40 feet is a big boat and will cost lots of money and time. I think you will be happier buying one used but if you have the time and resources go for it.
 
I have sailed all my life pretty much and as much as I respect people that build their own boats you might be better off buying a used 30-40ft and gutting the insides because the amount of forces that you have to account for are unbelievable. It's possible but kinda a waste if effort although I have seen some per fabed boats that people build and those are cool they buy like a complete fiberglass hull and keel then the rest they build. Just wondering do you have a lot of money a your disposal?
 
Well I just went through some troubles with my girlfriend, who i lived with for 3 years and my life is basically empty now... So I dont have that much money, aronud 500$, but i have a hell of materials already available at my disposal and a long ass time ahead of me. But when I put my mind to somethin I can do it, il have 50+ hours a week to spend on this fucker. I think ive decided on 37 feet. And no buying a sailboat just isn't the same, I wana take time and have pride in my own work. I'm gona build this fucker and sail it around the world man
 
30-40ft? I work a boathouse and boatdock on weekends when Im not in the office, and you would be better off buying one. Thats a pretty large hull you'd need to perfect
 
Best of luck to you, but building a boat is crazy difficult. I'm sure you'll manage to pull it off and have a crazy boat some day!
 
That made me very happy but go to a library and look around there for boat building books because its kinda and old school concept keep this thread updated I wanna see how this turns out. I had a friend build a 420 racing boat but he didn't make the hull. It's an awesome boat though
 
ahahah... building anything yourself these days is an old school concept where we live amongst consumers in a capitalist society. The fact is "they" dont want you to know how to do it yourself so that you have to be dependent on the economy to provide yourself with goods. Well I say fuck that shit. Any man with an average brain can figure out how to be self sufficient in every aspect of life (food shelter transportation communication) anyways sorry im feeling ranty these days il vbut il keep the progress posted and it will be here soon... I WILL DELIVER
 
Find an old classic and completely gut and redo it. I plan on eventually doing that with an old Seacraft or Mako.

I know quite a bit about sailing boats and boat building, but you say you have a lot of materials, but what are they? Aluminium? Wood? Concrete??

With your 500 dollar you can buy 1 seond hand winch..or do your materials and time also make winches, bearings, sails etc?

Wood... Ive got fuckloads of wood all different sorts types shapes etc... my grandfather is on his way out of life and he has a farm where it is all stored so i can help myself, plus he has a beatifull workshop with about every tool in there you could possibly imagine my dad has a pretty crazy workshop too i guess having been farmers has its benefits

how long is that boat in the picture anyways, looks about the size i need, can u put me in touch with the guy that built it like email or something in case i have a few questions along the way? it would be greatly apreciated
 
Canoes. I'm not even kidding, a camp I used to go to did something similar with three picnic tables, stacked two across and one on top over three canoes. I'm positive two canoes will be able to make good floats for one picnic table.
 
Dude youre not seriously trying to tell us you want to build a 30ft+ boat from just scrap lumber... are you?
