Anybody Hunt?

i dont hunt but have always wanted to. my dad was never into it and i guess thats why ive never gone. soon as i turn 18 I'm going down to dicks and picking myself up a 30-30 and some ammo though.

woah woah woah you gotta think about this. its kill the animals(aka hunting) with a 1 shot one kill thing to keep the population down. or you can not kill them and have to many which means not enough food for all of them which means they are starving to death. now ask yourself would you want to be shot dead and never feel a thing? or would you like to starve and suffer before dieing? fuck you it may sound mean but its kind of doing them a favor

I don't hunt, but better you kill them with a gun then having me hit them with my car.

And hunting is a very good thing for animal population if it's done properly. And trust me, deer hunting is needed. Especially in the east coast where mild winters have the deer populations out of control.

It's all actually pretty natural actually. And like has been said, without hunting many deer would starve and die in a suffering way. We have driven away all the deer's other predators, leaving nothing to kill them other than hunting season which is only a few weeks long.

What would you rather have, to be shot in the heart and die pretty quickly, or to be hit by a car and have to wait for a cop or someone with a gun to come and kill you because you are laying there writhing in pain with broken bones everywhere? Or better yet, starve to death because there isn't enough food?

Because that's what happens without hunting. Deer population grows, and gets too large. There are more car-deer collisions, and more deer starve to death because there is only enough food over the course of winter for so many deer.

But I guess if you are ignorant and don't look at the big scale of things, hunting is pretty ugly.

Amen to all of that. I would much rather eat meat that i know was killed properly and skillfully than the meat from a foodlot slaughter house. Hunting is so much more humane. when you hunt you have an aprreciation for everything around you. You are more aware of everyhting around and your thoughts leave you are closer to nature the world needs a closer connection to nature. With hunting you can appreciate the animal for giving providing for you instead of just picking up some meat at the grocery store with no remorse. With hunting you are more responsible for your actions and have a better connection to the natural world.

Trophy hunters are fuckheads.

Right on the money. I was reading to see if somewhere in this concoction of retarded posts that there might be someone who actually knows why hunting can be good.

Myself, I don't hunt, but I can see why people do.

I've been hunting since I was a bitty thing with my father. Started off with various waterfowl and ptarmigan and grouse, then moved up to much larger things like caribou and moose (bow hunting for moose is the sheeit). We never ate beef, just moose and caribou.

Same thing with fish... my biggest was a 56-pound king salmon when I was ten or my 150-160ish pound halibut, but I've fished for many different species (dip-netting for reds is fun, or just going out for silvers). My first two fish were when I was three, yay. My sister's never been into the whole fishing/hunting thing. Her loss.

I hope you're joking cause if your not you should really read the posts before you make absolutely ignorant and pointless responses like that.

I really agree with most of your post, the whole thing is exactly what needed to be said. However, as an avid hunter myself I would like to build on the concept:

Population control, in my opinion, is a reason to hunt that developed itself into the sport as development became more prominent. Originally people hunted for food, thats where the idea comes from. With the rise of domestication that need went away. People kept hunting because they sought amusement from it, the thrill of the chase, etc. You have to be careful not to overlook the sporting aspects of hunting, but you also cant understate the importance of hunters to game animals. Its gonna sound fucked up to a lof of people in here but hunters are a critical part of wildlife management beyond population control. We are largely responsable for things like habitat management, through organizations like Delta Waterfowl, The National Wild Turkey Federation, Ducks Unlimited, and Pheasants Forever. All these organizations are key to the existance of game animals in a developing world.

Oh yeah, congrats on the deer. I hunted the firearms season and passed some does, I'm gonna sit out the muzzleloader season but I can still bowhunt. I actually had a great duck season though, I didnt come out with a lot of ducks but holy shit did we see a lot. Its great to see all the birds, most I've ever seen in my life.

i live in maine and i hunt alot, in northern maine theres not much deer around but i still go deer hunting with my dad. its such a fun hobby, and fun to do with your friends to pass the time when the biggest store in your town is a k-mart and a dollar store. you can call me redneck all you want, but i've seen redneck before, and its pretty bad. theres a town about a hour into the woods that actually instead of buying things barter with one another usually with moose meat or animals. they have one place to gas up, and one restaurant. they dont even have a school! but yeah, hunting is great. deer hunting just finished saturday for us.

what is wrong with being a redneck?

A lot of rednecks are smarter than you pompus city folk.

That's right I know what pompus means ya cocksuckers

Props to what Enigma88 said.

I hunt in New Hampshire and I enjoy it a lot. I'm not a redneck though! Hahaha, this thread is getting dumb. PM me if anyone wants to talk about hunting in New England, or anywhere for that matter.

A decent post, but you kind of ruined your point by spelling "pompous" wrong repeatedly. I don't live in the city just so you know.
