Anybody doing toms day???

ill try...
but i might have a soccer practice, driving lesson and have to attend school (you need shoes)

i don't wanna sound like a bitch, but i don't really like this campaign, and maybe it's me being used to comfort and luxury, but i'd rather just buy the shoes instead. walking around barefoot won't make me more aware, i already know why walking around barefoot sucks.

not going to argue with you there. nothing against Tom's, they do good stuff but I hate the whole self rigtheous attitude people have about wearing some shitty slip on shoes. it's like the prius revolution all over again, smug levels are rising to all time high's.

thank you for someone agreeing with me! i read an article a while back that Tom himself admits the shoes are garbage. they make them as cheap as possible with crap materials and cheap designs then sell them for 70+ dollars to prestigious people who want to do charity work vicariously through a company. im sorry, it is a wonderful concept, i know people in the world are less privileged than myself, but if you really, truly, want to make a difference dont buy a pair of shoes, actually do something.

word, and not wearing shoes isn't helping anyone or anything. just like that stupid facebook status bullshit. actually do something like donating to a productive cause. there's thousands of organizations out there that you can help with or donate to. and do be a pussy and donate to something as cliche as the red cross. the red cross does a lot of great things, but a lot of the funding = enabling people to not change how they live.

I like what they are doing but what benefit does it make besides raising awareness about kids who don't have enough money for shoes? Plus its very unsanitary and/or dangerous.

hm. actually they sell for 55$ about, and for every pair of shoe that's bought, a pair is supposed to be given. so technically, you're buying two pairs of shoes for 50 bucks, and making a difference. wonderful, wonderful concept.

...unless you're pregnant and in the kitchen.

Since I am skiing on Tuesday, I will not be able to be pregnant and in the kitchen. Therefore I will have to abstain from this.

whoa. havent seen you post in a while. trust me, i wouldn't have made such an incredible rant if i didnt feel comfortable enough about my own philanthropic experiences. i understand that tom's is doing a good thing if your a lazy samaritan. i just think the image behind tom's is "look at my shoes, i did something good" and they profit from the fact that people buy into it as the next new trend. i have built houses in west virginia and worked in soup kitchens and feel a greater, more personal gain in helping someone that way than simply swiping my credit card for a pair of overpriced shoes hoping and guessing that some faceless person less privileged is gaining from my fashion statement.

my school said it was against board policy so we got about 50 kids to go barefoot. We all got detentions but its worth it. they were gonna make us put bags on our feet lolz

The last time a walked around barefoot all day.

Broken bottle. I didn't even step on it just glided my foot over it and sliced it like butter. I still have a ton of numbness in my big toe.

shit i dont wear shoes like 90% of the time in summer, even in the winter i dont put them on unless im spending 5+ minutes outside in the snow. unless im going into some public place like a store or something. im usually shoeless. even when im camping and stuff, ive even done some hikes shoeless, its actually really nice. soooo yeah, those kids dont need shoes.
and fuck, i bought a pair of toms shoes recently. i didnt realize they were some douchey hippy trend.

I understand that they're a cheap material, but I really like the way mine look and actually think they're extremely comfortable. I don't wear them if I have to do a lot of walking that day, but for short things they're nice. I also wear them for occasions where I have to look nice, because they're kind of like dress shoes.

Wait people are actually doing this? As in if I go to class right now every fixie riding hipster won't have any shoes on?

I walk around all the time without shoes. And like someone said, I don't see how walking around in snow barefoot will put shoes on kids feet. If I go out in the snow, I'm throwin on flip flops

so me not wearing my shoes (that cost more than an africans yearly food salary) is gonna help them how? bitch please, this is dumber than those feminazi facebook shits "i like it here LOLOL". if you really wanna help, donate some money to a decent fundraiser or something, not some stupid publicity stunt so you can feel above everyone else
heres an idea, why dont we all make tshirts that say "i care about africa more than you do, but am equally unwilling to actually help"?

good read!!this is what i really really hate about the typical prius driving, whole foods shopping, eco friendly, liberal, anti-american but living in america, politically correct in every way, person. this type of people are growing in numbers very fast. they buy into every single feel good, help others gimmick they hear about, feel so above everyone else, and all they are doing is supporting this growing trend of companies coming out with bullshit "eco friendly, organic, supports kids in africa" products and services, and takes away from the people and companies that actually are doing something that makes a difference.

my sister works at a store which is a major TOMS carrier. the lineup to buy the shoes was an hour long ... and they sold over 700 pairs. sweet

agreed. id just prefer not to wear shoes. like lifeguarding i wont ever wear shoes. Not wearing shoes makes your feet strong , so those kids who dont have shoes will have strong feet, and no arc problems in th future because of wearing the wrong shoes.

most definately. changed my perspective a bit for sure. here's another one i found today. not as good, but still worth the read.

also, on a side note. a kid in my language and linguistics class attended barefoot the other day. my professor obviously asked why he was barefoot and the kid replied to raise awareness. the professor then asked all of us if we knew about this and every single kid in the class knew exactly what tom's day was, although they didn't know it was that date. i just found it hilarious how people relate being barefoot in public to raising awareness about people without shoes. mission accomplished tom's!

Actually its not very unsanitary at all. Go research the benefits of going barefoot, and come back to me.

It can be dangerous though
