I'm bumping this thread because I also play trumpet, I have been playing for 8-9 or more, years now.
I'm in desperate need for some help though so rather than make a new thread, hopefully any of the guys in this thread see this and can give me some help.
I've been playing trumpet since 3rd grade and have never had any problems playing. I've had a private instructor since about 5th grade and have always played in my schools band. My private instructor told my band teacher awhile ago that I was the most natural trumpet player that he's ever taught. He said I always just had it, and it came easy for me. Back in middleschool we had the "districts" where you'd audition for a band for the best players in your district and so on. I always got in, and never practiced once for the thing. I've never auditioned in highschool though, for districts or all state. I don't know why, I just didn't want to.
Sorry I honestly don't mean to "claim" anything as none of that is really claim worthy to begin with. I just wanted to make it known that I'm not some beginner out there who doesn't know what he's talking about.
Anyways!
All this year playing I've been doing great until about a month and a half ago at a concert. I was playing through and then all of a sudden I couldn't play anything above a high A. So I moved my lips around a little to see if I could adjust a little bit and then couldn't even play anything out of the staff. By the end of the concert, and after me, messing up multiple times, my lips felt really over-used. I figured it was just nerves though and took 2 days off from playing.
I tried to play again a couple days later, and since then my tone quality has been horrible. My range has been awful. Also, my note beginnings and endings are soft and unclear when I need to tongue, and when I want to play softer my notes just fade into nothing. At first I thought it could be an air support issue, but I was pushing plenty of air through and still nothing.
I have no clue how to solve this, and I know the chance of anyone knowing is really slim especially on this site. I just wondered if anyone has had something like this happen to them that's why I ask.
I'm practicing here in my room and no matter how I change my embouchure, nothing feels right. I've also picked up my trumpet without even remembering that I've been having trouble playing lately. I'll start to play and it will be horrible, and I'll remember that I've been having a lot of trouble. I'm just thinking since I didn't even remember when I started to play, thatit can't be a mental thing where I'm over-thinking it or something.
Thanks for anyone that can help or has gone through something like this. +k to all.
