ok im pretty new to skiing and am trying to get better at skiing swich any tips? -thanx

Try to get comfortable looking behind over both shoulders. Also focus on making nice carving turns. To start out, you might want to make sure you have some room, and just take long carves like when you first started skiing. Let the edges turn the ski. Then start turning faster on your own till your carving naturally. Turning is the big thing though. Some kids on my hill try to act like pimp-shit by skiing switch but they are totally out of control.

another thing i find makes skiing switch so much harder is having sharp edges, maybe its just me, but i find it nearly impossible

yeah, making nice turns switch is all about the knees. its just like teleskiing. if your scissor your legs a little, youll find that it helps a ton.but mostly its just getting comfortable skiing switch. there are some things you can do to your skis that help, cause a big problem most people have, is washing out to frontside. if yout detune your tails it'll help keep that from happening. but agian, go to an empty green or blue hill, and try to make it all the way down without reverting, and pizzaing.

Do you switch what shoulder your looking over everytime you turn or do you pretty much just look over one shoulder the whole time?

 
You switch your head to always be looking over your outside shoulder. It is all just practice. Just start on a real flat run and gradually move it to steeper and steeper terrain. Good Luck!

The part i'm having trouble with is going faster....like landing 1's off tables....i can ski and carve switch fine otherwise

I was taught how to ski switch by an instructor for a freeskiing program at the hill i teach at, he said always look over ur downhill shoulder, and get ur outside ski way farther forward ( downhill, behind u, lower, however i can put this) but apart from that, practice

 
theres a lot of back/lower back muscles involved to skiing switch in control.. found this out first and second days back to skiing...

 
it didnt take me that long, and i can do it oretty well. do what ski bum said, switch shoulders to get comfortable, put one ski further forward or back...really just do what u feel is most comfortable and isnt gay

make sure you turn fully turn your upper body (turn your torsoe as much as you can (epecially if you have squareish goggles with not very good periferalvision) this bacame key for me) Also dont worry about catching tips and keep up enough speed so you dont fall over when you lean your hips into the hill.

How I learned is just by doing 180s over tables and learning to land switch first. Then I progressed into taking off switch etc.

Always look over your outside shoulder. This helps set your body for the turn. Place your outside foot forward (actually behind but its forward in the direction you are heading) of the inside foot. Ohh yeah.. lots of practice. Don't be afraid to hit the bunny slopes at first to get the hang of it.

yea over everything it just takes practice. I used to try real hard to carve fakie but i just didnt feel in control. but I skiied switch every chance i had and now I can carve almosta s fast and as in control as regular on greens and most blues.

also when you are slowing down try to avoid wedging your skis...its a bad habbit that looks not so good...so work on stoping the way that you would skiing normal...just for future reference

I think i read in FREEZE that its easier to carve switch on center mounted skis...is that true? Mine trouble makers arent center mounted, does that mean its a lot harder?

 
yea skiing switch without center mounted skis can be different considering u have to learn how much weight to shift to satisfy your turns...center mounted skis its pretty much the same as riding forward...cept of course u have to learn to control ur lower half opposite

Nope not at all, has to be center mounted.

J/K, most people ride with their skis mounted about 3cm off.

when you land switch youve gotta go blind and dont look over your shoulder until you start to ski away, it looks a lot stylier this way and you have less chance of hooking an edge and ruining a perfect switch landing. dont try to revert until your out of the transition and comfortably sking away

 
I ski switck so much that i can almost do it better than forwards, i can do moguls swich also. and i dont have centre mounted skis, there like 8 cm from true centre.
