Any of you men use a safety razor to shave?

I'm looking into investing some money in a good shaving kit. I'm sick and tired of using shitty 4 blade plastic disposables and terrible chemical shaving cremes. I've been looking into different types of safety razors and blades, as well as certain shaving soaps and brushes. Do any of you use these things? I need some tips.

get a gillette fusion comes with 2 extra blades and just buy a 4 pack to go with it. This will last you a while. it tells u ezactly when to change the blade with the little strip im sure you have seen the commercial.

this razor is awesome my face is so smooth right now just shaved this morning

ahhhh yeahhhhh (i just ran my hand down my face)

oh yeah and i saw some commercial this morning. gillette is coming out with something i think its like june 6th it wont tell u what it is it just says coming soon

maybe just wait and see what it is it might be like a robot that shaves you or some crazy shit

I was the same way as you...sick of the gillette 10 zillion blades and all the other shit out thats supposed to make your shave better but just gives you a shitty shave and tears up your skin instead
I did a little research and came across this website called shaveblog.com
You have to go to his earlier articles but he provides a lot of great info for beginners (old school razors, shaving brushes, and nice shaving creams) he really takes it seriously and its a great place to start if your looking for a classic shave
I own an old school gillette two blade safety razor, badger shaving brush and and some nice english shaving cream...I could not be happier with the way my shave turns out

i still prefer my old wilkinson quattro over my gillette fusion(i use both, gilette @ college and wilkinson @ home)
but in all seriousness; grow a beard; its so much cooler than a face as smooth as a newborns buttocks....

I use the Gillette fusion and just regular Gillette shaving gel and I love it, but then again I can't really grow facial hair so shaving isn't really an everyday or every other day ritual for me. My dad uses this real fancy shaving creme stuff that you can only buy in certain places, I'll get the name of it for you later in case you're interested.

I've been doing this for about a while now. I like the look of a little shadow, and it is much easier. I hate getting irritation after shaving. Just using a trimmer is much cheaper too.

i dont think shoppers drug mart is in the USA, but they have their life brand razors and they are really good and much cheaper than the name brand ones. pretty well the exact same.

yeah man, I hear you. I've been using Gillette fusion shit forever and it always leaves me with ingrown hairs a bumps. There is a certain point where you are willing to put up with it, but I can't anymore. Disposables are just so cheaply made. It doesn't help that it costs a fucking fortune to buy replacement razors and terrible shaving cream. A pack of razor blades costs 5 bucks at most for like, 100 razors, maybe 10 depending on the quality of the brand. A safety razor costs anywhere from 25-200 bucks, but they are made of beefy and durable metal and you dont have to throw it away after 3 uses. My grandfather got his safety razor from his father when he was like, 17-that was in 1946...he still uses it, and I'm sure his father had it for an equally long time before he passed it on. If you take care of them, they last forever. No matter what you pay to begin with, all you have to do is drop 10 bucks every so often on blades and 3-5 on soap. A good badger hair brush is like 40 bucks, and in the end, it is leaps and bounds better than putting some chemically enhanced goop on your face. I know I want to make the switch, I just don't know what brand to go for. Im thinkin this...

I just use an electric razor to trim it close and get a shave at the barbershop twice a month.

I shave every other day with cheap disposables but my hair grows fast enough that by the time I shave it looks less like a 5'oclock shadow and more like a beard. I prefer a little scruff.

I use beard buster and used to use Gillette gel. Both work great. I've tried electric razors but they eat up my skin.

you can get a boner over shaving with a single blade or 6 blades or natural shaving cream or gilette fusion shaving cream or what brand of aftershave you use, but in the end all you're doing is cutting hair off your face and nobody is going to care how awesome you think you are for it. you're wasting your time anyways, real men have beards.

i shaved my beard this morning with a $200 razor and $50 shaving cream and a $100 aftershave and by 4 o'clock you could already see my shadow. but hey at least i got a boner.

im not sure what is more alarming the fact that your a girl and have five a clock after shadow at 4 or that you would spend over 300$ on shaving "equipment"

Basically anything that looks remotely like that. Plus, it comes with a handy beard trimmer on the back for pubes!

for some reason i came on here thinking we were talking about shaving with box cutters. and why does this "girl" have a 5 o'clock shadow?

I'm not sure you are aware of this, but do you know how hard it is to pull off a respectable looking beard at age 21? Let's face it, beards only look good on people who have aged gracefully and who can look great with a rugged look...no college aged kid can pull off this look without coming off looking like a complete tool or a piece of hipster trash. A man with an incredibly clean shave looks ten times better than some dumbass who let's his whiskers grow-you inevitably end up looking like fucking Admiral Ackbar. And yes, there are vast differences between certain types of shaving tools, why the hell do you think a straight razor shave at a barber shop is so expensive? If you shave correctly with the proper equipment for your face, you won't end up with a 5 oclock shadow in the afternoon either...6 bladed razors just end up scraping the living shit out of your face and leave you with ingrown hairs and razor burn.

Check out the store: The Art of Shaving. Talk to the guys that work there (and stay away from the over priced gillete fusion crap, the store was bought out by Gillette but they stay carry some legit stuff). Then leave and buy it online.

I would like to commend all of the posters in this thread without pink names because Ive been shaving with the fusion for a while now and Im sick of the bumps and burns, and after reading this I have been inspired to try something new and have found this thread to be extremely informative. Im glad to see that NS hasnt completely gone to shit.

hahahhah nice!

the difference here it that once you buy the expensive stuff, like the razor itself and the brush, those things last for decades, not weeks or months. I'd rather buy an expensive razor and brush that will work well instead of dropping 16 bucks on a pack of razors and 10 bucks on shitty gel each month. That all adds up. Why do that when you can get a really nice soap for 3-5 dollars and a 10 pack of replacement blades for 3 bucks? you save money in the long run.

very true..but unfortunately I just look like a homeless dudes ass crack when I try and pull off the 5 o'clock shadow...more power to ya
