Any news on the Line Binding

The new 05' skis came out and I just wanted to see if anyone heard anything about their 'wonder binding'. I really hope that they make it, but for some reason I think it's too good to be true. It was set to come out like 2 years ago. They seem to just keep putting it off.

Why do ppl keep asking about the reactor, it's a piece of shit. Line fucked up, just because it's line doesn't mean you should buy their bindings. Their name doesn't make their stuff good...

It's amazing to see how negative everyone gets when you mention the Line binding. No other company has tried to significantly change bindings in the past 25 years. Line's concept, from the way I understand it, has the potential to work really really well. It's unfortunate that they released it before it was ready, but I'm willing to bet it'll be a significantly better product when it gets re-released.

^It's obvious that you didn't read my post. I clearly wrote that the binding was, in my non-professional(and therefore worthless, like yours) opinion, RELEASED BEFORE IT WAS READY. Once it is ready, I believe the binding will work. I could very well be wrong, but after 1 torn ACL, I'd be inclined to try it.

Literacy is an important skill, I suggest you work on it.

Actually, Line got fucked from several ways...

SARS shut down the plastic factory...

The president of the company in charge of producing the binding died, and the ensuing reorganization screwed Line's supply chain. Line put pressure on them to fulfill their contract, so they put out a few shoddily made bindings. Line retooled it (and AFAIK picked up a different manufacturer) and the second-generation ones are actually quite good. However, due to the massive failure to get the bindings to market last year, Line's creditors told them not to release any new skis this year, so that's why you're only seeing the Pollard as a new model. They had a pretty good year this year (from what I've heard) so next year look for some *sick* skis. That I've heard, Line doesn't have a time table to release the binding. That's a good idea, IMO. They need to get it good and release it when it's ready rather than promising and then rushing a half-done product out the door. The Pivogy will be a very good binding once they get the kinks worked out of it.

I had them and they were no good. The safety technology was nice but they were heavy and I broke two pair under warranty. They eventually sent me a refund. Look uses the same technology now in a much better constructed binding. Line had a great idea, but they leapt into the binding market a little quick.

they have tons of room for improvement.

the idea behind them is completely innovative.

i wont drop out of high school for skiing, mom

do the look p series bindings do the same thing as the reactor idea? I thought they did, but i could be wrong. So its not really a new idea. Why is everyone making such a big deal out of it? Someone explain.

common misconception.

Rossi/Look bindings don't work the same way. The Pivogy toe/heel pivots and releases simultaneously. The rossi/look turntables are independant outboard releases, which (according to Line) are still not as safe as an inboard release.

^this is true, but at least rossi/look bindings wont break right after you leave the lip of a jump. I agree the idea behind lines seems like a good concept, but their binding still needs to come a long ways.

I have a theory that all retards have one long tendon that goes from wrist to wrist, so therefore that is why they always are screwin around with one wrist up, and the other one down.

ha ha ha. I love threads like these. Lets see. Come up with a revolutionary design, rush it to market not 100% ready (read ee's comment, he knows what he's talking about) have it break all the time, PULL the binding off the market, and have people bitch about the second generation design that hasn't even been given a timetable for release. I understand not liking the first generation binding, I didn't at all. but don't say it's all going to be crap (again, read ee's comment about the first gen) again. The next design has more time, actual proven testing, public testing on the first gen so they did get feedback on it. alot of feedback. pretty much all negative. so i don't think they would spend this much time to put out another binding that still sucks. wait to complain about second gen bindings until they've come out and you've demo'd them. until then, bitch away at the first gen.

I rode the new binding at the 2005 demo days for all the shops on Tuesday. The rep old us that these are as close to production as they have gotten. He is flying to China to do the final ok and they should be out by April. the concept is sweet though...it is like a snowboard bindingand no mounting from a shop required. We rode them down some steep shit and cornuses, they work great.

so what happens when someone wants to centermount a pair of lines with the reactor? guess they're SOL huh?

Abba Zabba, you my only friend

^yeah, until Line gets their shit together and sticks 6-8 inserts into their skis, so you can decide where you want your binding.

I would think they would want to fix the problems of the past with the bindings and get a better public opinion (and better sales) before they started to play with how to allow variety of mount points. They gotta fix their biggest problems first.

life is too short to have any regrets

Line's reccomended mounting positions have trditionally been pretty workable.

they should drop the one piece plate and four hole design, because if the revision is decent they will be screwing themselves out of a larger buying demographic. They can't be mounted on other brands skis with that design. And I certainly wouldn't want an adapter plate on top of the heavy plate that is already on them.

The idea is that you will buy a pow ski, park ski and all moutnain ski...and only have to use one binding..and you can travel with three paris of skis that take up the same space. It encourages you to buy multiple skis by line.

true, but u have to give them credit that its one of the best marketing ideas out there. cuz they're skis next year are gonna be real nice.

thats the idea, but if someone doesn't want to buy a line ski, yet they want the binding, then most likely they'll buy the ski and a different binding.

^No. The new binding will most likely be much lighter, and the adapter plate will work very well. It's not an overnight process. Line is talking about COMPLETELY changing ski bindings forever. That takes time. It will happen, and you'll be the first in line for it when it does.

you will be able to use them on all skis right not just lines? just wondering cuz that would be pretty stupid if it was just for line skis.

From what I've heard, you have to buy a retarded adaptor plate for the bindings to work on other skis. Their 2005 skis already have inserts so you can mount the bindings yourself. The adaptor plate will only make the bindings heavier than they already are.

Broken legs suck balls

Line has a good idea, unfortunately for reasons beyond their control, yes the binding did suck. Their revamping the entire design, plastics, mounting plates, ect to make this what it was originally intended to be. Give them a break, nobody says you have to ride it, but give them credit for trying to innovate and keep you safe.

When they re-release them, take a look cause u might be really suprised

Alot of you are missing the reason why the bindings are an inch high. Its not because line thinks a binding thats an inch off the deck is a good idea, its because they couldnt make it any lower. All the springs are in the plate, do you see any room on that tiny little toe peice for springs? no, because the springs , or spring is in the middle, and is used for the heal and toe peice(read the line web page on this to find out the whole reason why and how it makes the binding safer)

This is also why its one peice, not just because switching skis and self mounting is easier, good luck having a seperat toe and heel peice share 1 spring.

I like the reactor 12s, sure, they are pretty heavy... very heavy :S But I havn't been released other than when needed yet. I'm looking forwards to the new bindings though. I'll get me a pair of those for some 05 pollards.
