Any ex- full tilt users out there?

I went from Tecnica Diablos, then to Ace oF Spades, then Full Tilt Dropkicks, and now I am in a Tecnica Cochise 120.

The biggest issuse I had with 3 piece boots was that I never felt like my heel was being grabbed enough, even with down sizing, adding padding, and custom footbeds.

I also didn't like the neutral stance, even when shimmed with the biggest piece Full Tilt includes, I could feel how much more backseat I wanted to ski with the 3 piece boot.

The only thing I really miss about my tilts is how warm the Intuition liner was.

Over all I am very glad to be back into a more traditional shell, I don't think I would go to a Demon or Dobbermon shell, but the Cochise is just hybrid enough for my liking. Plus the power strap is freaking bomber.

With all of this being said I'm not that much of a park skier, I mostly do Sidecountry, light BC, glade skiing, and Thursday night Beer League. I do drop cliffs, mostly around 20ft, and hit park booters, but I'm not spending as much time on rails as I did in my youth.

Hope that helps

I had full tilts. Never once did they not hurt me. They wouldn't wrap completely around my leg at the top of the boot even with the booster strap and then on the outer sides of both of my feet, it hurt so bad every time I skied that by the time I took my boots off I would have to sit for at least 10 minutes before putting pressure on my feet because there was so much pain.. I tried to get the boot packed out in those sections but it was very hard to because of the buckles so they never once fit me right... I probably changed the boot around a solid 7 times before I just gave up. My local shop also stopped carrying Full Tilt starting this year because of the amount of people coming into the shop because the boots not fitting right... I'm on Dalbello's now and I love them. Never had to get them custom fitted and they fit great. I also ski 90% of the time in the park if that helps at all with your choice.

Back to Larges for me! Xt130, better flex, more precision, not as warm, but after some new intuition tours I'll be all set. What are you looking at steiner?

I fiddled around last season with some FT Classics and they were fine but not as solid as my dalbello kryptons even with a semi-packed out stock liner. Ft's did feel lighter but fleemsier and flex felt a bit too soft even at harder flex settings... really liked the liner though, so im getting some ID's for my krypton shells and i'll be set!

I rode FTs for about 5 seasons and thought I'd never ride a different boot. This season I switched to the Nordica Ace 3 Star. My main reason for switching was while the FTs were good in the park, whenever I'd try and ski them really hard I felt like I was folding them in half and over powering them (this was with a #10 flex tongue and a world cup booster strap). I'm really liking the Ace 3 Star, it's "progressive" flex (110-130) makes them forgiving and fun in the park while also stable and responsive outside the park. The boot is also very comfortable, not quite as comfortable as the FTs, but pretty damn close.

Rode ft's last season, both toenails fell off plus my shins felt like they got hit with baseball bats. I switched to the spk pro with the rubber toe piece and have been walking on sunshine ever since.

Thanks for all of your feed back! i have the dropkicks from two seasons ago. they packed out super hard and didnt fit proper. so i recently got the pro liner to put in them which is slightly thicker. They fit better now but they seem a little inconsistent. Some days they are awesome, and others it feels like my heel isnt fully anchored. I used to have a 3 buckle dalbello boot called the vodoo i believe. Im thinking about switching back to something similar for next season. And reed i hope all is well in jackson hole homie!

I had some dropkicks last year and they just weren't stiff enough for me considering I rarely am in the park and mostly dropping cliffs. This year got fitted for some dalbello krypton pros and I love them so powerful and responsive for charging. Sadly the shell just cracked on me, so now I have to wait for them to be warrantyed.

I have booters from last year and get alota toe bang. Even on smaller sized features. Yeah theyre good boots that have a "natural" flex, but that isnt 100% the cure for discomfort. Note before i got fts i was using rental boots so i dont really have anything to compare them too. It can also depend on the shape of your foot.

I went the opposite route compared to most of the posters in this thread.

I went from a traditional Technica boot to a Nordica Ace of Spades boot w/ intuition liner. The Nordica boot was OK, it didn't really fit my foot too well in the shin, ankle, and calf area. The buckles also created some pinch spots even when loose.

I switched to FT booters last year with the #7 tongue and any foot related issues have completely disappeared. No toe bang, good response and effectiveness while skiing, and zero pain.

I think it all depends on the shape of your foot and lower leg. There is certainly not a single brand of boot that works well for EVERY skier.

A lot of it involves professional boot fitter advice and trial and error.

I feel like the heel hold isnt there in FTs like it is in other boots Mike. Check out the salomon ghost, lower volume fit, and a amazing heel hold!

Went from full tilts to Dalbello Kryptons. Still a three piece boot but much stiffer, better heel lock, better power transmission. Seriously, I've never felt my carves this well with the extra stiffness and better fit.

side note for this kid... toe-nails falling off and shin-bang have nothing to to with the boot and everything to do with landing properly (and keeping your toenails really short)

Also FTs (classic shell) are 99mm last and SPK is 104mm, so you can't compare apples and oranges.

I rode a Krypton, went through two pairs of FTs and I'm about to go back to the Krypton...

1. fuck those buckles, I'm so over them sliding around/ not closing because of snow/ breaking. (my buddy has the new FTs and says they buckles aren't much of an improvement, he has to fiddle w/ his as much as I do in the classic)

2. My first pair of FTs I had to replace because the toe had worn out and I needed a new shell, not that the boots were done, but the shell couldn't survive all the hiking I did in them. Kryptons have replaceable toe/heel. (I know new FTs do too)

3. They're pretty great once you get them dialed, but mine took so much work:

-replace the tounge (wanted a stiffer one)

-shorter cables, since I crank my boots

-booster strap (it's like adding a buckle to your FTs)

-heel shims to minimize heel lift

-punched the shell out, slightly

-custom insoles

I'm really stoked on the Dalbello Lupo, fit as well as my FTs straight out the box. (once I find $700 I'll get them) My old complaint about the kryptons were that FTs were so much lighter, but now they are close enough in weight to opt for the one that has better components and longevity

Just got my Dalbello Il Moro T's today. Haven't used them, just strapped em on and walked around for a bit. First impressions, WOW. I like them far better than the tilts. Build quality is way more sturdy, specially on the buckles. And its wayyyyyy easier to strap the buckles down and get a snug fit than with the tilts. They do feel a little spacey around the ankle area, but I have not heat molded them to my foot yet, they're still molded for the guys foot I bought em from. Feel a bit packed out, but they're already extremely comfortable. The flex, while still being 120, feels wayyyy more natural and comfortable. Going to see if I can get my bindings upped to fit the new boot without having to re-drill, and if I can I'll be given em a go this weekend on the hill. To say I'm stoked is an understatement though.

holy shit I can tell just by reading most of these comments that most of you didn't actually get fitted and just bought FT's... lol

^^ actually i did get fitted for FT's from an awesome ski shop. they felt great for about a year but then the liners packed out. i rode them for another year after that now this year i got new liners. They are currently breaking in and feel good somedays and others they dont. So i decided to make a thread about it... lol

agreed, but some of the problems arent fit related..

I had FT's (2013 DK's) for a total of 2 weeks of actual skiing days (roughly a month of actually owning them) and I did everything possible to make sure they were the correct boots. I had them compared to probably dozens of boots and they just so happened to fit the best which I was actually pissed about since I wanted to get some Dalbello's... anyway, I had them heat molded and fitted with a custom footbed and punched before even using them. The first day was probably the most pain I have ever put my feet through and my moguls and slope competitions didn't them feel any better.

My coaches just said they were breaking in so I ignored the pain. As the days went on, I continually felt fatigue in my feet after about an hour that was giving my feet cramps for the rest of the day. regardless of buckle tightness, sock thickness, and outside temperature, I still had this problem. I continued to use them for the rest of the season for my competitions which were very painful.

On top of the pain, the performance of the boot was utter garbage. There is nothing fundamentally right on these boots that would give them better performance. Everything about the boot was cheap except the pricetag.

-The shell was flimsy and thin and I almost chewed through the shell from a week of mogul skiing. There is also no power transmission because there is no torsinal stiffness, lateral stiffness, or any stiffness at all. I could feel the boot warp when i walked up stairs in them on and I could SEE and feel the boot warp when I skied moguls. I felt like I was wearing slippers without the comfort.

-the tongue material does not even have appropriate characteristics to help you perform the best; there is no rebound or spring when flexed, the flex is not progressive in the slightest, the material is soft and give poor feel throughout the boot, and it almost cut through my liner from unpolished edges on the backside of the tongue.

I finally made it through the end of the season with them and got some Nordica Double Sixes instead. Best Boots I have ever used. NOT ONE COMPLAINT SO FAR. This is the first season I haven't had to get new boots halfway through the season. If they fit your foot, pick Nordica's over FT's you will not regret it.

I had FTs and they weren't that bad actually, the only problem was that my ankles were sore after 3-4 hours of skiing. I use Kryptons now, they fit me better in the ankle area, I can ski longer in them.

I was fitted for my FT's, I tried on a ton of different boots and they just happened to fit my foot the best. However, the guy didn't deal Dalbello so didn't try any of those on at the time. I got these for a steal, so figured why not. Turns out they fit, in my opinion, better than the tilts. Way warmer/more comfortable with a solid 3 piece design.

Mike are you in the right shell size? Maybe its time to size down to a 3/4-1 finger shell fit? You can always get new liners too and size up a size so they will in all the extra voids in the shell.

You still at Lesters?

i've been on the full tilt camos since they came out in 08-09, on my second pair of liners. i've got custom footbeds and these boots couldn't be better.

hey guys i got an update! before i bought my new liners i got low volume foot beds. I bought them for my boots but when i put them in i would get the worst arch cramps. So i decided to put them in my shoes for lolz because i bought them anyways and didnt want to just throw them out. when i had them in my shoes they didnt hurt at all. that was about two months ago. I got new liners a few weeks ago and the other day i decided to put the foot beds back in to see what would happen. BAM! The beds got broken in from being in my shoes everyday and they feel awesome in my boots. My drop kicks fit awesome now!! super stoked that i finally have my boots on point! thanks for all of your feed back guys! and reed, i work at the old chrystal ridge, its called the rock. Its been turned into an all park hill and its super fun! i do alot with park and play a big role in ski school! super fun job im stoked!

Used to use FT high fives. Now on Dalbello Panterra 120. Unbelievable upgrade. Both good start fit for long / high arch and wider than average last. FT had a lower volume fit and the Dalbello improvement on this was just perfect for my foot. I am glad because the spec, ski feel and features on this boot are perfect.
