Any downsides to the seth?

What are the downsides to a 179 seth for deep pow/occasional groomers? can i do better?

The fact that they are factory made doesnt bother me so much as performance and life. If it makes a difference im 5 10 155lbs.

Sorry if this is a bit vauge, just making sure im going down the right road, college tuition has me strapped pretty tight!

my cousin just got 179 seths in CO in march. they are amazing he let me ski them for a day im 5'8" and 130 and they fucking ripped. they are really light, manueverable, pretty good in crud, obviously awesome in powder they floated great, soft and just all around amazing. the only thing was the topsheet chipped some from crossing them up in spins for both of us but that was it. plus the graphics are sick.

i would highly reccommend(sp?) them to you man.

is the 06-07 ski the same as the 07-08?? and where should i mount? I have some older 912TI's, im not sure if the binding model affects the mount position. I really want a big mountain ski, I already have park skis.

Thanks for all the responses! Im sorry im not a techy!

The 07/08 has a "mini rocker" I don't think anyone knows how much of a difference that will make, and I don't think there are any other changes.

Mount them up from recommended, even if you don't want to ski switch a whole lot the recommended line is wayyyyyy tooo far back.

Bump.... Does anyone else know if the 08 ski has any drastic changes? would it be worth the pain of paying 250$ more? And mounting....anyone?

new seth has mini rocker in tip and tails not much but I have heard it is both noticable and nice. as for mounting seths get mounted at +5, just do it. if you want to mount it at >7.5 get a new ski.

i have the older seths and i love them...so dont think the new ones are that much better, if graffics dont matter too much to you deff. get some older ones to save a tad o cash

i have mine (169s) mounted at +3 and i pretty much love them for everything. they are, however, a little on the soft side. i only notice this when skiing crud, and where i tend to ski, that doesn't happen too often.

I have tested the 08 Seth the mini rocker makes it alot easier in heavy conditions to keep the ski floating and easier to turn than the 07 seth in soft snow. what you gain in soft conditions you lose on hard snow the mini rocker gives you less effective edge. Carving the ski on hard snow requires the skier to stay balanced in the center of the ski. i can not say the 08 is better than the 07 or vice versa. Both skis have +s & -s If you are buying the ski mostly for soft snow the 08 is great choice. if you are looking for a more versatile all mtn ski the 07 is the way to go. In my opinion.
