i played soccer, not lacrosse, but maybe still applicable...
i looked at a lot of these schools and the recruiting/admissions process varied a lot between them. at middlebury the coach essentially told me that they don't talk to players until after they've been accepted, so athletics has no bearing on admissions (when you're that good, you don't need to recruit, the best players come to you). i know that this is not true for all sports there though, since some girl i know admittedly only got in because she played basketball. conn college on the other hand was on the complete opposite end of the spectrum. their coach hounded me like crazy and hooked up a pretty impressive academic scholarship offer to try and get me to come. colby was somewhere in between the two. in the end i ditched NESCAC and went to skidmore, but didn't commit to the coach until the week before the deadline. unless you're applying early decision somewhere, there's no need to feel pressured to commit any sooner.
