Any deaf skiers out there?

that legimetally blew my mind.

oh and i have a deaf pe teacher and tests are easy as fuck because we all just yell out the answers.

I think that's the point. It's one of the stupidest comments I've ever seen. It's not getting nominated for best post, more like worst post.

I'm deaf also (profound deaf) and a lot like you OP. But seems like I can hear more than you can. I don't remember what my % was, i think its like 70 both ears. I wear hearing aids, the one that goes behind the ear. I talk and can do sign language, but I dont use it. I just don't like to sign. I lip read really well and grew up in the hearing world and I was the only deaf kid in my school till the last 2 years in high school. I need an interpreter for classes and important meetings.

I have been skiing since I was 18 months old and I'm now 25. I have never missed a season.

In fact I'm currently training for my 3rd deaflympics which is going to be in Slovakia this time. I went to Sweden in 2003 and Park City in 2007, the SL and GS was the same course from the 2002 Olympics. I almost got a medal in the DH, SL combined.

Details here if you are interested:

http://www.usdeaflympics.org/ - this page is kinda shitty set up.
http://www.usdeafsports.org/ - this one has other deaf sports.

nice to meet ya fella, i dont do DH, wish halfpipe and slope were in the deaflympics, which is why i strongly support for the decision. its just to get my ass off the streets haha

Dude. You two have awesome grammar for deaf folk. My good friend's parents are deaf and I know a few deaf kids and they all suck at writing. Just how anyone who didn't speak English would try to write in English, its a trip. Why is that?

grew up mainstreamed with hearing folks everywhere, learned how to talk, it was brutal for a deaf kid growin up. if their english sucks, its probably they think in ASL. its like spanish, french, italian, whatever, where words are mixed around. like for example if i say, im going to the store. people who are asl would say, the store i go.

i dont know how brail subtitles would work for a ski movie. try converting "right side double cork 12 over BC stepover probably late afternoon with green and blue outerwear" into dots. because subtitles work that way...sometimes they describe whats happening on the screen rather than just speech. and ski movies aren't really about the speech... just my 0.02

yep, just what he said! ill take an example from one of my deaf friends who is very into ASL and how most deaf people write

From facebook status,

example one:

just remembered why he hates suburbs... He's glad he doesn't living in the suburbs anymore.

example 2:

needs

to sign up for Adobe Creative Suite photoshop workshop or class. He

still trying to figure this software out... It been three years of

using... Still not satisifed with his skills with photoshop.

You noticed how he says "he", or "his" instead of I, I'm etc and sometimes the grammers are backwards. I dont remember the correct term for stating those, im tired and just woke up.. I'll be honest writing is one of my weakness and if I'm writing a paper I will still need someone else to proofread for me and make minor adjustments.

oh yeah rowen! now wouldn't that be cool!

by the way, its been forever since ive been back, and the old mans cult is dead? how sad..

honestly, your stupidness just shocks me.
to Sknsnw9, that's awesome, I've been skiing since i was three years old, now am twenty, i have not missed a year either! I would have to say i'm like you, but i have an cochlear implant instead of hearing aids. I can talk and hear pretty well, i hold conversations with people well. I also use an interpreter only in big noisy places where it might be harder for me to hear. I can also talk on the phone, etc etc.
i think it's pretty funny that others are so shocked that we can do what we do, because we are deaf.. just because we are deaf dosent mean we cant see or we cant function fine. we just have a little difficulty hearing that's all.

applejuice is too sweet for use in every part of the day

Not an interpreter. I had a manager at an old job that was, he started teaching me, then I took classes at the community college to get better. And I say fluently as in I can understand what people say and they understand me. People who have been doing ASL their whole lives can tell I've only been signing 5 years, but its really only the old guys who will call me out on it.
