Any Boston skiers on here?

Sup NS. I just got my first job out of college and will be moving to Boston in a couple weeks from Wisconsin. Looking to find a new crew to ski with this winter/ hang with in general. Whats the ski scene like in Boston? I assume theres a good crowd of park skiers out there considering the heat that stept would put out every year. Im always down to hit urban and will probably be getting a season pass somewhere once i decide which mountain to go to. Whats the best mountain thats relatively close to Boston?

Also if anyone is looking for a roommate, feel free to PM me. Rent downtown is insanely expensive and finding a cheaper option would be huge
 
Wachusett and Pats Peak are both 1-1.5 hours away from Boston and bigger mountains (Loon, Stowe, etc) are 2-3 hours. Wachusett and Pats Peak both offer night skiing so if you have a job, you could go at night.

If I were you, i'd ski Wachusett or Pats Peak at night since you have a job, and on the weekends you could hit up the bigger mountains.
 
my parents live there ill be around christmas prolly haha, blue hills is the closest but kinda bunk, still fun tho. nashoba is super lit, wachusetts not bad either.
 
if you are looking for something close, than probably watchusset ( i know i screwed up spelling). good night skiing, and the last time i was there, the park was closed unless you sign a waiver, so it keeps the gapers out.
 
thanks for the info guys. ill definitley look into wachusetts or nashoba. probably want to drive up to stowe/ killington a couple times a year too. anyone else living out there now?
 
Wachusett is just okay and has crowds, sunapee is the better place to go from Boston imo if you're looking for short ish trip for a dece mtn with a dece park

Nashoba is an anthill, like tiny, but somehow have a super legit park every time I've been there and it's really close to Boston and you can take night laps

After that your next looks are loon, Waterville, Mr snow and magic in s vt, cannon, lot of other places but for short trips from Boston I say sunapee and nashoba are your places

And yeah if you're willing to drive farther the northern vt mountains and some Maine ones are great of course
 
ski bradford is north of boston a little bit and I go there cuz they have some good rails and its 20 minutes away. dont go on wednesday because that is when all the schools take fieldtrips there every week. watch out for racers if u go, and it is small but quite fun

There's a lot of good options out of the city. There's a group called BSSC that runs day trips every weekend, 2-3 day weekend trips and full on vacations. It's a wicked good deal all the way around but day trips are the best. They pick you up on a coach bus right downtown, lift ticket is included and it's only $70 for places like Sunday River who's daily ticket is $105 on a Saturday. If you have a season pass or a MAX pass you can pay like $20 for just the bus ride. Highly recommend it. I went to Italy and Revelstoke on BSSC trips as well. Was a blast.

Damm, yeah any details on this? Bucket list is to get to Revy and I had no idea BSSC would take on something like that

Yeah! They change the trip offerings every year but it's VERY reasonably priced. I've gone on 3 BSSC vacas and each one was awesome. Red Mountain/Whitewater 3 yrs ago, then Revy then the Dolomites in Italy last year. Each trip was between 2,200-3,000 and included Round trip airfare, transportation, 8-10 nights lodging and lift tickets. The Italy trip even included Breakfast + Dinner. Only downside is they are group trips and tend to have some older folks, but I go with my buddies, do our on thing and it's no sweat. The trip list this year is pretty solid. I will say, revy was crazy. I got out for a day at Eagle Pass Heli as well. Can't wait to go back. Bring a foam roller tho, my legs have never hurt so bad, ha.

Damn I am definitely looking into this and will probably hit as many weekend trips as possible this season. Such a good deal, especially for someone like me without a car.

Where in the boston area are you going to be working? Look at allston and brighton for cheaper rent. Plenty of kids on craigslist looking for roommates. wachusett's park scene is decent but the mountain itself sucks for regular skiing, tons of gapers and its not steep enough for powder so when it snows they groom everything down. Loon is 2hrs from boston and is a solid option if you dont want to trek farther north. Killington is 2.5hrs. PM me and I'll connect you with my homie who skis park at nashoba.
 
I go to UMass Dartmouth (I know that's not Boston) and run the ski club there. We're an open club so anybody can come on our trips and it's like $55 for a bus and ticket to Killington. Its's cheap skiing just an offer. Hit me up for more info, we have sick urban potential on campus too
 
yo d00d still need a roommate? come live with me. kraigslist karen moves out end of the month you can move in then, 10x10 room two closets own bathroom cheap utiities and down the street from the skratepark!!!!

yeah. i mean, it's not a "ski town" but there's definitely pretty good skiing within driving distance...more so than most places in the country, at least!

it's no denver or SLC but it's a wonderful city with amazing schools, and there's some pretty good skiing to be had within an hour or two, and some pretty great skiing to be had within 3 or 4 hours

While the ski-setup is not as ideal as a UofU or Boulder, Boston is the best college city in the country (BU, BC, MIT, Harvard, Northeastern, etc.) IMO worth coming here to get a great education so that you can land a dream job later. Most of these colleges have ski teams or ski clubs and its still relatively easy to get up to the NH Mountains in 2 - 2.5 hours at least. Chances are you wont be getting any weekday laps, but I love living here and still ski about 35 days a year.

That's more days per season than I'm even able to ski in high school with a two month tops season, so that sounds great to me!
 
If you’re really into park, Nashoba is closest and very small but always a really good park setup for the size. Unless you’ve barely skied or have money and time to waste you will probably not enjoy Bradford at all. Wachusett is bigger than Nashoba with a pretty solid park. Pats Peak was my home mountain in high school and it’s fun but they don’t switch up the park so it gets boring, but night skiing is fun. If you want anything really good you should drive to Mount Snow/Killington/Sunday river, or maybe Loon or Cannon depending on what you want.

Any idea how to get to any of these without a car? I just moved here as well and didn't bring my car with me so I'm stuck with public transport/rideshares.

Hm that’s a bit more difficult. I’m pretty sure there’s discount group bus trips to Sunday River and some other big ones, but I’ve never done any. I’d highly recommend going to the Boston Ski expo if you’ve never been, it’s in mid November and I know I’ve seen stuff there about bus trips out of Boston and stuff.

i know wachusett has a "take the commuter rail to wachusett" thing set up, google that to find out the details

bus trips through clubs can be a good option for some people

where are you trying to get, and when? i live here and drive up to different mountains sporadically but it's usually just on saturdays or sundays that i can squeeze a day trip in on. my schedule is too hectic and variable for more than that

Yeah I saw the commuter rail thing, didn't get a Wachusett pass, but I do have an ikon base pass - I work weekdays so I can only really do weekend trips. I'll probably go check out wachusett a few times just cause it seems pretty easy to get out there

def worth checking out, but i find myself almost never going to wachusett. it's crowded and expensive for how flat/boring and small it is IMO. when i wanna go somewhere close ish, i go to sunapee. farther than wawa of course but still a very easy drive and it's a much better mtn imo

loon and waterville are also easy drives since it's just straight up 93. cannon is phenomenal in good conditions but is often icy/windy and further up 93 of course. that area (franconia) is amazing though, def worth a visit some time

i prefer n vt of course but that's a longer drive

feel free to DM me for my number if you wanna keep me in mind for a possible occasional buddy for day trips, or you wanna go slay the last rail in Mutiny together ;)

Definitely do. Wachesett gets a bad rap because its not a huge mountain, but I used all 5 of my MAX Pass (rip) days there the past two years and had a ton of fun. Its also a great place to bring people who arent huge skiers as the entire mountain is approachable for intermediate and beginner skiers. You do need to have an additional Park pass, so I haven't been in it, but I've heard good things and it's serviced by its own lift for quick laps
