ANTs - Day 1 Review

Well, I had my first runs on the ANTs today and I must say, I'm stoked like a kid in a candy store!

After much deliberation and measuring, I decided to mount -11cm from center. (Thanks to Josh for dealing with my indecisiveness) Now that I skied them, I'm damn glad I went that far back as these skis are STIFF and having any excess of tail would be brutal if you ask me.

Unfortunately, I was only able to ski them on the groom, but the edge grip was amazing. Don't get me wrong, these skis aren't 'turny' but the big fast turns I did with them, the edges weren't going anywhere but where I wanted them to.

These are quite possibly the fastest skis I've ever been on...like f'ing rockets! Can't wait to open them up in the pow. They are super burly and the stiffness took a toll on my legs, but these are the ultimate go fast and tear shit up ski.

The weight of the skis is another thing...they are amazingly light. Even mounted where I did, they are very agile and still skied switch quite well.

Sticking to the idea of keeping them light, I ended up straying from my original plan of mounting them with P18s and hooked them up with a pair of Deadbolt 614. These binders are dope too. When you step in, they have the feeling of a high-end Salomon. Even on those big skis at speed, the Deadbolts felt super secure and stable.

Bottom line, anyone looking for a BURLY stick to remain stable at stupid speeds, the ANT is your ticket. I wouldn't ever consider this as an everyday ski though, unless you have leg power like Bode.

I'll get back you to with more info when I've had a chance to ski them in more varied terrain.

jealous.....

and what was wrong with the P18? Couldn't get them back together could ya?

pussy...

did I mention I'm jealous?

Yes, I'm a pussy...a pussy who rides ANTs.

And yes, I got them back together after you told me to just pound that spring back in there. It's a pain in the arse, but I figured it out.

Damnit Luke. That was quite the comeback.

All I've got to say is Igneous FFF 265 RA Biatch!

No seriously. ANTs sound nuts. Glad you like them.

You done now? At least for This season (not including an AT set up)?

O, and just pounding the fuck out of the spring is the way to go. It took me SO long to figure out have to actually get those things back together. Serious pain in the ass.

Well, you're FFF are quite possibly the sickest skis around. I'm still jealous of those everytime I see them.

Was everyone at Crystal last weekend just drooling over them in line?? I'm sure.

Yes, I'm done.

I was worried about hitting the spring too hard, but then realized it's a pair of P18s! Just hit that shit and it'll go in.

luke, how much play do those deadbolt have? gotta make sure they'll fit my 335mm boot sole for jackson...

my mighty 145lb self needs to show you what's up on your own damn skis!

People didn't know what they were. I got funny comments in line. Mostly snowboarders. it was amusing. Just stuff about them being planks and such.

P18 = bomber. Hopefully the vist prove the same.

O, and a 189 SP AT set up? Go for it. DO IT.....NOW...DO IT. Seriously.

I'm considering swapping my freeriders for the new Naxo Nx21 (pending more reviews) once I'm able to break my current gotamas for next years (pending the breaking....), if your interested....

Sean - you can bulk up by then? 145?? DO you eat?? Seriously....and your a tall ass kid too. The ANTs would laugh at you. Then you would just have to make them your bitch.

Sean - you getting an AT set up? If you gonna be in OOTah it is a neccessity.

i eat so much god damn food scott... i swear to god i eat a full 5 or 6 meals a day. i eat more than most of my 200 lb+ friends.

everyone in my family is the same way though... just wait until i'm 20 and all of the sudden i'll be ripped as fuck.

i'm pretty durn sure i could handle dem ANTs though.

how do those deadbolts work out for you. they seem interesting. i really like the idea of the toe lock out. it seems like it would prevent you from a release when you land in the back seat, unless you really need it. im interested in those. good idea. you still got those made'ns? just wonderin....at the moment.

The toe lockouts are optional on all, but the 816, on which it is standard. I got the 614.

Once I get more time on them I'll post more review info, but I loved the feel of them today.

When you step in, they feel similar to a higher end Salomon.
