Anti-war protesters throw in the towel

To Jib_This... I've been arguing politics on NS before you even joined. I'm sick and tired of hearing people bitch about subjects I've already covered. Calling you a retard is not a personal attack, its just stating the truth. Thats all you are, a squabbling retard inciting angry posts so you can find little mistakes and blow them up to a huge degree. As to the flag burning. Here is a law that was on the books until about 1989. So I WAS correct in stating it used to be illegal.
'18 USC Sec. 700
1989 - Subsec. (a). Pub. L. 101-131, Sec. 2(a), amended subsec.Prior to amendment, subsec. (a) read as follows:
''Whoever knowingly casts contempt upon any flag of the United States by publicly mutilating, defacing, defiling, burning, or trampling upon it shall be fined not more than $1,000 or imprisoned for not more than one year, or both.'''
Again, to my other statement about why flag-burning is wrong. Stating that 'the Flag is not just a peice of cloth' is a perfectly legit statement taken in context with my whole post. You just decided to yank that out of there in order to try to make me look stupid. Would you want me to make an effigy of you and burn it in your front yard? In essence, its the same thing. The flag represents the United States, and all that the people of the country have fought and died for. Now, I never said that it was illegal. I just stated that personally I felt that its extremely wrong. Why is it that immediatly I'm attacked if I state that? Am I a huge conservative warmongering redneck because I don't want to see the symbol of my country burned? Even worse is when American citizins burn it. It would be like your OWN CHILDREN making an effigy of you and burning it right in your living room. These are the same people that by day work (well, most work, the others are erm.. questionable) and by night take care of their families, pay taxes, vote, etc. Oh... wait.. are they? Are most of the people that protest the average Joe citizen? Actually... from the observation of most anti-war rallies. I've seen that 80% or more of these groups are college students. Not people who've had experiance with the REAL WORLD, but kids who see something to be infuriated about and they decided to rise up. Its the same all the time. Kids decide to protest about something they barely know about because they hear its bad. Rumors get started, and these rumors become known as 'fact' among the masses of protesters, then, all of a sudden, Bush is Hitler and owns oil rights in Iraq and the entire war is about oil. Then these misinformed, hot headed, masses decide to take to the streets with their 'Fuck tha man' mentality, some people get sucked in with them and protest, and yes, there are even people who have the correct knowledge and reason to protest. But my problem with the flag burning at protest stems from that. These people aren't looking to change anything. These people are lookng to stir up some trouble. They burn the flag JUST BECAUSE. Not because of any injustice. The ones who know what they are talking about protest in ways that don't stir up trouble. They write articles, letters, organize non-violent, calm, protests.
So in short. The reason flag burning is bad is because all it does is stir up trouble. It doesn't get anything accomplished besides pissing people off. You're burning a symbol of a country, a symbol of all who have fought and died for that country, for no better reason than to give some people an adrenaline boost to cause more trouble. Or to get pictures taken of you. THAT my friend is why its wrong.

the liberal anti-war propaganda fabricating machine has rolled into newschoolers. For some ridiculous reason, unbeknowest to me, there are americans who think we are outright slaughtering Iraqi civilians, so our elected president can take home barrels of oil and sell them with the proceeds going directly to his pocket.
