why is our national mindset so entrenched against a small and harmless demographic? is it because we are shallow are afraid of things we don't understand? civil union isn't an affront against Christianity, it's simply a right that is owed to every American.

Opinions NS?

also... no homo

But in all seriousness, I've debated with quite a few fundamentalist Christians about this and it always comes back to the same point. That god designated marriage as between a man and a woman and allowing gays to marry devalues and somehow takes the legitimacy from all hetero marriages.

Most are perfectly okay with civil unions for all though.

exactly. newsflash, fuckers--people have been getting married long before jesus.

the same people that think marriage is between a man and a woman would have been saying marriage is between two people of the same race 50 years ago.

MSNBC lays it all out there, that's why i go to them for my politics instead of fox or CNN
keith olbermann and joe scarborough are the shit

honestly I don't have problem with anyone who is gay, but all these people who aren't gay and are going around preaching for them are complete faggots

except where he uses the term 'fagot' as a derogation despite him saying there's nothing wrong with being gay.

You agist bitch. What's wrong with being 10? This is like 1950's racism 2.0!

Besides, they're 16, at least.

I am in full agreement with this thread, and the dude saying people who stand up for them are "faggots"... wow, I don't even know what to say. Are you really so self-centered that you only care about things that directly affect you? It bothers me to see people suffering from prejudice, whether they're close friends or complete strangers. I don't see how anyone can pass themself off as a decent human being if they're unable to give a shit about other peoples' problems.

Milk is going to be a good movie.

I think that both sides of this issue have got issues. The fact that the mormon church dedicated 20 million bucks to passing prop 8 in california... what a disgusting waste of resources. On the other hand, its like come on gay people, civil union is EXACTLY the same, and you could have that and no one would care. I'm not saying gay marriage offends me, but it offends some, and it seems like both sides get off on ruffling feathers of their opponents.

Newsflash- the Judeo-christian tradition goes back further than Jesus, so does the institution of marriage.
But in all seriousness, in my opinion, gays should be able to marry.
If a particular church won't marry them, so be it.
The problem I have with opposition to prop 8 is that it was decided democratically. Now, there have been many other issues that we feel are wrong nowadays that were decided democratically in the past (see slavery), and I certainly don't feel that those were correct simply because they were democratic in nature. However, there are states in the U.S. where gay marriage is legal. Gays as well as straights can move around the U.S. as they please. If they desire to move to another state to be wed or simply to be in a more gay friendly community, that is fine.
Because we decide things democratically, when decisions are made we are subject to those decisions by virtue of the fact that we live in the U.S.
California's decision on Prop 8 was going to affect all of those in the gay community in California. The gay community knew this. They recognized that this would affect them profoundly. Could they have done more to sway voters? Probably. Would it have helped? Who knows. However, the gay community in California will be subject to the decisions passed down by the votes. That's just how it is. If they don't like it, they can protest, which often does nothing, or move.
Again, I think allowing gays to marry should be legal by law and it should be at the church's discretion who they wed. Remember, you can be wed by a justice of the peace.
Anyway, kind of a rant, hopefully I made some good points, maybe not.

the marriage of black people also offends some people, so should we call that civil union?

jews are going to hell according to christianity, should they not be allowed to marry?

there is NO reason to ban gay marriage, other than religion, something that should not be mixed with government, or straight up bigotry.

if something is seperate but equal, its NOT equal.
how many times have you ever heard somebody ask if you were civil unioned (unionized? dont know what the right term is)? never- they ask if your married. the definition of marriage is not static- it has been changing fluidly for years now and its downright unfair for people to assign a seperate name to something and call it equal, especially when it interferes with peoples rights.
that video, btw, was the shit. couldn't agree more

What I said early was just to get a reaction out the overly sensitive population of people on this site.

In today's society we conform to other peoples standards of living and other people's problems. We have to change everything so that everyone can be a part of something and no one feels left out.

But when a body of people who are being segregated or made fun of are pushing for things that they don't need, such as what was in the Proposition 8 over in California that stated that gay marriage was to be taught about in public schools, and that any minister, or priest or whom ever that would not wed a gay couple under his church would lose his federal funding, well doesn't that mean he should lose it if he sees a straight couple that he doesn't want to get married he should lose it for that too? Plus how is the state going to take away FEDERAL funding it wasn't just bigotry that factored into that decision.

Alot of people talk with out understanding the full concept, and thats pretty gay.

theres a big difference between blacks and gays. Blacks were in slavery for 100's of years, gays were not. Unless of course they were in their boyfriends basement.

So you're proposing we grant rights to people not because they are human, but out of guilt-ridden retribution? Think of what you're saying before you post next time, please.

Gay marriage be taught in public schools? if by taught you mean that they could show a gay couple in a book as an acceptable form of family then yes, why not. should we also not show interracial couples in books? what about if its a jew marrying a christian? should that be out too? its a part of life, and sheltering kids from it is just encouraging the hate and discrimination that exists today.

as for federal funding. why should churches have federal funding in the first place? what makes them so special. not to mention that by not marrying gays you are arguable either a) carrying out a political agenda, in which case you shouldnt have federal funding in the first place. or b) its bigotry. in which case the government should not be funding it either.

ahh good to know discrimination is acceptable as long as it isnt backed up by hundreds of years of slavery.

Your grade for the having a sense of humour test: F. But it's the internet so you're forgiven.

99.99% of the gay people i have meeten i hate so much and some are ok i dont mind them but for the most part there just fucking anoying as hell so gay and they just throw there gayness out there like theres this SUPER gay kid in my school he absolutly loves cock in his ass and he flaunts it its so gay we have this shitty day be something your not day and he was straight like he just goes around trying to make a point that hes gay like we get it shut up u fucken fag.

Can you people see that when native americans didnt have rights, eventualy they got them

when blacks didnt have rights, eventualy they got them

when women didnt have rights, eventualy they got them

Do you really think that the gays will never get their rights?

so basically by your logic, the civil rights movement was pointless, they would have gotten their rights anyway?

i think not

ok maybe my message wasnt very clear

Do the people against gay marage honestly think that by opposing it, gay marage will never become legal? By opposing it your simply stalling this law, and puting of gays right to be with someone they love

ok I think that homosexuality is fucking gross, I hate seeing/hearing gay people when I go to the city, I also think that there is something flawed in their brains to make them go against the laws of nature (cant reproduce)

however I think that they should have the right to marry simply bc of the financial aspects. II would say that they shouldnt be able to adopt kids but there are too many fuckups out there popping out babies they can't afford, and someone needs to take care of those kids, so I guess I 'accept' gays but I still think its gross and a mental affliction.

ps I will never stop using the word 'fag'

while still disturbing, this is somewhat acceptable. closet homophobia is "fine" i guess, as long as you arent infringing on ones rights. much like it is expected that there will always be racists, as long as they arent pushing to reinstate slavery, they do less harm.

its a phobia. thinking something is gross and abnormal just because its different is a phobia, and its unacceptable.

and they are perfectly comparable demographics. certainly gays have never been enslaved, but they are discriminated against, much like the blacks were after slavery.

sorry i meant to say its not accepting. but unacceptable would be a valid word to describe it as well.

i know a few gay people and they don't really bother me and i really don't think its the government's job to regulate who gets married and who doesn't. However, the prospect of gays adopting children is a little fucked up. Those kids get harassed a lot, and i just don't think it is a healthy family enviroment. I say let them get married, but please don't let them adopt

I don't care if you're religious, but when religion starts getting involved with the government... fuck you you ass holes. Who the hell are you to tell people what they can and can't do. If there really is a god why doesn't he do that for you since he's so powerful

we would rather spend 25 million dollars on banning gay marriage in california then on sayyyyy....cancer research

get your priorities straight motherfucker

it is their money they can do what they want and meth and male hookers are usually pretty cheap, so they have money left over to ban things with.

Black kids get harassed, should black people not be allowed to have kids

Nerds get harassed, should smart people not be allowed to have kids

isnt the problem really the kids harassing them? thats like blaming the black kid for a hate crime

if your problem is with only guys or only chicks raising a kid, look at the devorce rate. Lots of kids live with just a dad or just a mom. kids would be lucky to have two parents
