Summit County: At Keystone Ski Resort a fatal 12 y/o skier versus tree, L/G 2 flight nurse just pronounced the patient onscene.

It seems like more and more people are loosing there life on the ski hills these days. Seems like everytime i turn around, someone is getting killed somewhere in the country skiing. Kinda scarey. I am not too sure yet on what happen with this one, just came over the scanner a bit ago. I bet it will be on the news once they find out about it. RIP little dude.

oh, in case some are wondering, "LG 2" is "life guard 2" thats one of the flight for life helis.

yeah this kid at Colby where my brother goes died boarding just two weeks after getting to colby because he was in france for the first semester. he caught an edge and flew into a tree at sugar loaf.

some guy died at my hill (gore) this season too, he got outta control and went into the woods. another man vs. tree story.

theres usually 1-2 people who die there a year though

that sucks! when you think about it though theres not that many people who die skiing which is really good to hear. you hear about the ski resort deaths because they are so rare

Yeah seems like it has been a bad year for this type of stuff. I was skiing with my buddy the other day and he went of the trail at about 30 and over a cliff. I thought he wasent gonna make it at first. Got away with a broken back.

We have got to be more careful...this is not cool. I hope this doesn't happen anymore, especially to a kid.

we've had 3 life flights (sp?) out of brighton in the past 2 days... first day some kid skied off a knoll into a tree and broke both of his femurs, then later on the night some kid go paralyzed from the neck down on a park jump... then the next morning someone had a heart attack on the hill...

2 'inbounds' deaths in verbier switzerland so far this year. one guy fell off a chair lift and died, another, just a few days ago fell down tortin (steep, long, semi off piste mogul run) and didnt stop till he got to the bottom and died. think he hit some rocks on the way down.

WOW... so sad first of all the kid is 12..... this season is great skiing but the injuries are coming in like crazy...... my boarder friend just split his radius right in half on a jib in indinia where we go.....

god damn, thats fuking horrible, i fuking hate hearing shit like this. Like you said it seems everytime you turn around someone else just died. This sucks, FUCK it actually makes me mad. It also makes me more worried everytime i go out.

a young kid died in breckenridge early january when i was there. kinda sad and scary.

when i think about it, when im skiing the trees all it could take is an edge catch to send me head first into a tree, kinda scary

that's sad to hear...i think a big factor about all these injuries/deaths we hear about today is from instant comuncation though...aka the internet..word travels faster whereas ten years ago word was mostly local

actully skiing in the tree is way less dangerous cuz u ussualy dont have fatal speeds. It when ur not in the trees and going fast and fall and slide into the trees.

this is the rest of the story so far that 9news..com has put out.

KEYTSTONE (AP) - A 13-year-old boy from Connecticut has died after an accident at the Keystone ski area.

Ski patrol members responded to the report of an incident on an advanced ski run at about 10:15 a.m. Tuesday. The boy was taken to the Summit Medical Center in Frisco, where he was pronounced dead.

Keystone Ski Resort officials declined to describe the incident. They said the boy was wearing a helmet.

His hometown wasn't available.

The Summit County coroner and sheriff's office didn't immediately return phone calls.

RIP

I seriously think that park skiing is safer than regular trail skiing. Not necessarily 80 foot table top jumps but just rails and smaller jumps at my hill at least never see injuries but there are dozens of injurys everday else where on the mountain.

That stuff at Mammoth last season was crazy too, how that guy died trying to save a skier or whatever. not even the rescue workers are safe =(

thats a shame such a little kid too. I think a lot of times people ski way beyond their ability or out of control. i know at my mountain kids and adults alike fly down the trails at speeds they can barely handle...i dont know if i could even handle those speeds..one caught edge and bam...

kids really need to sick to their skill level, you see kids that come down for 3 days and they wana hit a 30ft jump when they still make pizza turns....

damn that so sad. im at keystone right now and i didnt hear about that but idk if its true but i guess another guy died today to. people said he had a heart attack. im not claiming or saying it did happen but thats what people said at the lodge

you have no idea what skill level this kid was. don't turn a thread that should be about recognition and respect into another bullshit debate on people skiing out of their depth or ^^about wearing helmets.

RIP little dude.

shitt thats so sad.

I hate to hear any type of skiing death and he was just a kid. It just shows skiing is not a safe sport, there are risks and we all have to be aware of that and accept it.

All i can say is at least it wassent a person to person collision, i couldn't Imagen how terrible you would feel after that...

Less kids get hurt in the park because they know what there doing (most of the time), but when you go out on to just a normall trail theres a bunch of kid learning and a bunch of inexperienced riders. Thats probally why you see more injuries out of the park than in it.

the only way they would have pronounced him dead at the scene is if he head came clean off. but yeah 3 people have died at steamboat this year. two fell in tree wells and the other just had a heart attack.

Yeah theres a lot more dangers at a ski hill other than just the terrain park. The other day I was one chair behind a group of people where a 7 year old was just dangling from the lift half the way up. He fell, 20+ feet from the chair. Maybe even 30. It was pretty bad. Be careful out there guys.

RIP little guy.

Shit... Poor family/friends. RIP little dude.

Just remember shit can go wrong at any time, so live each day to the fullest.

But u gotta ask was he an experienced skiier? It said he was on an advanced run, he could hvae been some kid who came to the mountain for the first time and didn't kow the tracks to well and overestimated his abilities....

Anyway, RIP kid
