Another reason to fucking hate kanye west

You have to define what "music" you are referring to. His rhymes and flow may not be the greatest, but then again he's not a rapper. To say that the tracks he's produced, (he is a producer after all), which is the actual "music", are shitty, is WAY off.

wait, is "newschool rap" like a new genre or something. when i read new school i just thought you meant rap that is recently made. and yes there is still alot of gangster rap being made, just nobody hears it because of dudes like kanye filling the waves with crap

newschool is rap with a high production value, lots of bass, mixes, etc (a lot of hard work goes into the music behind the rap). that's what Kanye does, that's what Nas has been doing lately (think Hero), that's what Jay-Z does.

Stuff like T-Pain and 50 on the other hand, is pretty basic and sounds like shit, hardly any work goes into their beats, therefore it isn't oldschool (good sound, low budget) or newschool (great sound, big budget), it's just a whole new class of shit.

oh really? how would you define it? i think if a cd is sold right in between brittney spears, metallica, and taylor swift, that would be called mainstream. target will only carry cds they can sell to a large demographic; the mainstream demographic, so pull that stick out of your ass and quit your bitching, just because something is mainstream, does not make it bad.
on the thread subject though, I like kanye, simply because he rides a bmw gangsta, which is the same frame i just bought. hooray. his music is sub-par at best, but way better than 50 cent, which I believe we can all agree upon

ok, lets play a game. explain to me, how something can be popular amongst the common population, yet not be "mainstream". If you manage to explain this paradox, you get an e-cookie.

here's another quote from kanye that i found on pitchfork.com: "I created a new genre of music. iTunes didn't choose to use it...the genre for this sound is called 'Pop Art.' And that's what I wanted to say for iTunes. 'Pop Art.' And the only other thing I think can go on there, currently, is...Pink Floyd."

atmosphere is played on a clear channel station in colorado. i never said anything about cd format, just being sold at target, because target only carries top-40 cds. they have cds from probably 100 artists at most.
