Another reason to fucking hate kanye west

Kanye West is to music what Michael Jordan was to basketball — at least that's what West thinks, in his humble estimation.

"I realize that my place and position in history is that I will go down

as the voice of this generation, of this decade, I will be the loudest

voice," he said in an interview on Wednesday. "It's me settling into

that position of just really accepting that it's one thing to say you

want to do it and it's another thing to really end up being like

Michael Jordan."

That's the worst part though... his music is untalented and shitty, he has like three good songs, and he still claims the shit out of it.

Agreed, except I wouldn't go so far as to say he had any good songs at all.

I just watched a video of one of his new songs, what the fuck is this T-Pain robot voice synthesizer bullshit thats taken over rap? Mainstream hip hop is truly dead, its just the same shit recycled over and over. But the people who are most to blame are the idiots that keep listening to every shitty album Kanye and his ilk put out. Whoever buys Kanye's next album should sign up for a lobotomy.

Its cool, it just makes it easier for people to see how awesome I am hahah

but seriously, Kanye, 50, t-pain, all that shit falls into the same category.

He doesn't have skills though... a few of his songs have decent beats. That's it. His rhyming is terrible, his flow is nothing to brag about, his lyrics are played and shitty, and a few exceptions notwithstanding, most of his beats suck too. As Salcedo said, when it comes to the mainstream, hip hop IS dead. Nas was right. Fortunately, it lives on with the artists no one gives a fuck about.

A) whether or not you like mainstream music, technically he IS like a michael jordan of the industry. Possibly one of the most popular artist.

B) You have to respect his success, and although he might not be spitting lyrics like immortal technique, he's 100x better then half the thugs who make it big rapping about hoes and rims.

C) He's actually not a bad guy. Grew up very talented, bi lingual and had a ton of love for his mother, and when she recently passed away it was devestating for him. Just read an interview about how he wishes he would have never gotten famous because then his mother would still be alive because she wouldn't be subjected to the vice of being extremely wealthy.

D) One of the best producers in the game.

She'd still be alive if she wasn't extremely wealthy?

Doesn't it work the other way around?

He has no talent at music, but he's an expert at marketing himself, that and a catchy tune is all you need to make money in hip-hop nowadays.

i agree, but i do wish he would deflate his ego a bit. I just don't understand where he gets such a strong sense of deserved recognition. let your music speak for itself.

he probably just does it to get attention.. and it obviously works.

everyone thinks hes a huge asshole, wtv his beats are still sick

funny, because my friends saw him at bonnaroo and said he totally sucked ass performance-wise.

he's not a shitty rapper, and a lot of you hip-hop lovers are bigtime snobs, there are plenty of bad rhymes in non-mainstream rap as well. he's not incredible, but he makes catchy music.

he is however a huge douchebag. he said if the bible was written today he'd be in it. give me a break. the voice of my generation? I sure as hell hope not, I don't want that cocky idiot speaking for me, and I barely listen to his music.

I would never even attempt to defend Kanye West as a person, as he's incredibly arrogant, and far too sold on his own importance. That being said, I find that many incredibly successful people are eccentric, quirky, bizarre, arrogant, etc. Is he really that different from other wacky musicians/artists? I don't think that he is.

To completely dismiss his music betrays the fact that you either are only familiar with his singles and features on other artists' singles, or you aren't a fan of hip hop period.

He has unquestiongly produced some of the most powerful and "catchy" (not sure why you devalued a song's catchiness) tracks in recent hip hop memory. From "This Can't Be Life", half of the Blueprint, Kweli's record "Quality", Common's "Be", Lupe Fiasco, and on and on and on. He's not an amazing emcee, though I do like his self deprecation, but he is an incredible producer/arranger.

Other than J Dilla, and maybe Hi-Tek, he is probably more responsible for the resurgence of soulful hiphop than anyone else.

He's not making incredibly difficult, or esoteric music, but not everyone needs to be Def Jux to be worthwhile.

And yes, he has done an amazing job selling himself.

I never found any of his music to actually be that good, otherwise i would stick up for him but the way it is now he needs a visit from the modesty bird

I agree with this, but we're pretentious snobs for a reason. Sure there are underground artists who suck, there's exceptions to everything, but the ratio of skilled underground rappers to bad is like 1:1 while the ratio of talented mainstream rappers to weak ones is exactly 108,553:1, the one being Slug. And he's already started slipping since he went big.

I admire his talents as a producer and would say he could be top fiveish.

But to walk around claiming to be the voice of a generation is ridiculous especially when you dont have a strong vocal talent to back it up.

he is not a good musician. and he thinks he's the voice of our generation. Let me let you know that mr bob dylan, (MUCH more qualified to be the voice of any generation) declined that he would be the voice of his generation, when they said he was. Now we have this no talent piece of shit, claiming he is.....and i'm sure a bunch of retarded highschoolers agree with him.... o where this world is headed

Yeah man, have you guys heard the leaked stuff from his new album that comes out next month?
there isn't even much rapping on it what-so-ever, it's all super synthesized and just him trying to sing. and let me tell you, even when he uses the same kind of synthesizer that T-pain uses, he still fucking sucks ass at singing.

can't believe kayne would claim that shit, he's comparing himself to a living legend.

jordans been outa the game for like 6 yrs( not exactly sure just throwing that number out there) and every guy that enters the league thats legit he'll get compared to jordan. this in no way happens to kayne

and mainly 50 yrs from now ppl will still be talkin about jordans skills

kayne on the other hand not so much, only thing i could him being mentioned for 50 yrs down the road is, goin on tv sayin bush doesn't like black ppl besides that his shit won't be relevant that far down the road its not like he revolutionized the "game" the way jordan did.

so kayne is a douche in thinking what he said holds a grain of truth

Pretty arrogant, but wasn't MJ? They can back it, and kanye can back his with record sales. I mean I am not saying he is the best, but somebody must like him if he is going platinum all the time.

I really like his albums College Dropout and Graduation. I personally don't like the synth voice kinda thing. I really like his songs: Homecoming, Big Brother, Champion, and Good Morning.
He is really cocky, but he also does a great job marketing himself and has had a tremendous impact on hip-hop.

Did you just mix up the wording on that, or were you saying that Slug is the only weak mainsteam rapper? (also, I really liked his new album, and I think it's sick that he's getting some exposure. His rap should be a standard for others to follow.)

He was on MTV... he has been on MTV for a long time. It's not on the Top 40 (or maybe it is, hell if I know) but people know about him. As for his new album, I definitely liked it, but not as much as some of his other albums. It had two good songs that could compete with his older stuff but the rest was not quite up to his standards. Not bad, just not amazing.

kanye is an amazing producer, but hes a sub par rapper

he has no flow, hes song are about jack shit, and the only good thing about them is the beats

he pumps himself up to be so much more than he actually is

the fact that he can rap and produce makes him stand out. he can rap and it'll be a hit or he can produce and it'll be gold, timbaland can't even do both.

hes a complete tool, but gotta admit he has catchy tunes which you can actually listen to. he is definately a sub-par rapper, his lyrics are mediocre, he cant perform live for shit, and nearly all of his hits are composed of samples from other well-known songs which are passed unrecognized by the young MTV crowd (ray charles, curtis mayfield, daft punk, etc etc). i know lots of people who have gone to his concerts, and they all say that he is a dick in real life. not to mention he is also quite the sellout

^ i second. Kanye's music is going down the drain quick. 808s and heartbreaks is all voicebox or voicecoder or whatever t-pain uses for every track hes ever sang on. I'm really not trying to hear his disco tracks anymore. He's weak these days. I feel like his prime is done.

^ I third, 808s and Heartbreaks is some super-weak shit ... his first two albums were dope, but the release of Graduation marked the beginning of a new wack era in what is called "hip-hop" i.e. mainstream pop music w/ vocoders cheezy beats, etc.

808's and Heartbreaks isn't really supposed to be looked at in the same way as his other albums though. He made the entire record using AutoTune and a Roland 808, which was used in the early 80's to make synth beats. He defines it as pop-art, not hip-hop. Yeah, the guy is kind of self-absorbed, but hes on another level compared to other artists right now. He has produced some of , if not the best, tracks for a lot of players in the game over the past 8 or so years. That is something that a lot of people seem to forget about now that he's trying to branch out to other areas. Kanye has something no one else in the game really has going for them right now. He has a real appreciation for other forms of art. Just check out his blog on his website. He is always posting shit about dope architecture, industrial design, artist spotlights, music, and just overall impressive shit.

^word. Stop hating on Weezy, stop hating on Yeezy. Listen to what you like, listen to what you don't. Just don't fucking argue about it, its pointless
