Another "Pick my car" thread...

MACAQUE

Yep, here's another one.

So as I was leaving school yesterday somebody backed into me. The entire right-front quarter panel of my car is FUCKED along with the headlight, front bumper, part of the hood, and some mounts on the inside. It's a 2001 Volvo V70 so there's a good chance it's totaled since Volvo parts are expensive as hell and the car is only worth around $5k. I'm hoping it's reparable, but if it isn't I'm gonna need to look for a new ride.
I most likely want something that's AWD/4WD, but also fun to drive. I'm thinking about a small truck/SUV like an old Jeep CJ7, Toyota Pickup, etc. Any other suggestions? I know I'm going to get a lot of "SUBARU" so try to avoid even saying that. Thanks.

Make the fucker pay for it.

That being said, Get the mad sick stock impreza with the super duper twin turbo v tec booster stanced out.

lol someone back into you and you think your Volvo parts are a lot of money so you getting a new car thats cute.

No somebody backed into me and their insurance company thinks that Volvo parts are expensive so they're probably writing a check instead of paying to fix it. Welcome to the world of reading comprehension.

macaque is right..... if its totaled it's totaled. they're not going to fix a car that will cost more to repair than its worth. And it doesnt even have ti havr enough damage to equal the value and they will still write you a check.

its not if you think backing into a car going 10 miles an hour (if even that) makes it totaled and will more then 5g worth of damage you are fucking stupid.

Try 6 grand on my parents car when someone backed into and dinted two door panels and it needed a wheel alignment. It's more than you think

Sorry for dub post. But get a toyota Hilux. They just run forever and ever and would be a good ute for getting up the hill and carting bikes places if your into that type of stuff.

fuck yes. I've had jeeps my entire life and would definitely recommend a wrangler but I've had a toyota taco itch for the past 3-4 years but they are really damn expensive because they maintain their value so well..I've been looking into good condition early 2000's tacos and they are still hovering around $10,000 in my area

if you're thinking of a jeep, do it!! i have a '97 manual wrangler with the straight six. IT WILL NEVER DIE. plus, you can be cool and lift that thing into the sky. and snow/bad weather is a joke.

Most insurance companies will write off a car if the repair will cost about 75% of the car's worth. Either way, you're wrong and a dumbass.

And a picture. There's a lot of broken shit behind the fender that you can't really see in this picture.

If you don't want to break the bank DO NOT GO AUDI. Yes, they are awesome in the snow, and are outrageously fun, but god damn are they expensive.

Japanese cars have good reliability, and they also are not terribly expensive to repair (aside from Lexus), but go for whatever floats your boat.

If I can find a 4Runner without ridiculously high milage I'm interested for sure. My mom has a newer one and it's awesome.
That being said, I still don't know if the insurance company is writing it off. Just got it towed to a shop today. Based on the picture I posted, what do you guys think? I've been totaling up part costs and it looks like a headlight assembly is 400, a bumper is 800, a fender/quarter panel is 400, a fog light is 60. Other parts that are broken/need to be repaired are the hood which is bent, the wheel well, the metal piece which the bumper and fender mount to (attached to the inside of the engine bay), and the side turn signal. There's probably some stuff I can't see. I was told by a friend that works on cars a lot that the new fender will have to be painted and the hood will have to be painted because the colors probably won't match. Add labor cost to all of that and I think it's gonna be an expensive job. Part of me hopes that it's not totaled because I love this car (as much as I hate it), but part of me wants it to be written off so I don't have to go for weeks without a car while they repair it.

are you kidding me? Is there really people suggesting an audi for 5 grand give or take a little? Get off your high horses. For 5 grand your looking at an old suv, carolla, honda civic, etc. Something reliable and will work. How the fuck can anyone suggest an audi for 5 grand. No fucking way in hell an audi for 5 grand is going to be a good car

Ok so still don't know if it's totaled because the shop is closed on weekends. My dad's pretty convinced that it is.
I'm think that I'll have more than 5k to spend if I get a new car because my brother will probably get it when I'm in college and when he's old enough to drive. Neither of my parents want to get an old car that has 150k+ miles. If that's the case, then an old 4Runner is probably out of the question. 90s Runners that I can find all have around 200k and newer ones are all around 15k. There's nothing in the middle in my area.
I'm interested in a Jeep Wrangler or Cherokee. They seem to be cheaper with lower miles than Toyotas and aren't as beat up. Any problems with these cars? I'm looking around the internet and it seems like the only thing wrong with them is engine reliability problems in the 4 cylinder Wrangler. Also, how much would it cost to get an Audi or Subi that's not going to break down? I'm finding ones with under 100k for under 10 grand. A lot of them have had the timing belt and water pump replaced recently. Any other problems?

And you don't want a Subaru? The Forrester is an awesome ski car and you're dumb as hell if you can't see that.

Plus, most of the used ones were driven by grandmas and lesbians. They are usually well taken care of and have had a soft life. Cheap to ensure too. Tons of room, tons of features, huge sunroofs, and the AWD system is very nice.

All I know is that Subaru makes the most reliable cars on the planet. If you find one cheap and in good condition, pull the trigger.

Subaru does not make the most reliable cars. Get out of here.
And I told people to not say subaru because I already know about them. I want to see what else is out there.
Commence shit storm involving people who want to perform fellatio on a Subaru...

You are really fucking stupid. Who makes the most reliable cars then? That subject is so debatable that it's a total waste of time.

Well anyways, Subarus are reliable. They are the perfect blend of quality and affordability. If you can't see that, then good luck to you. I'm not a stupid WRX fanboy, I'm someone that's spent a lot of time researching affordable rides that will get you where you want to go with style, comfort, and reliability.

97 Manual 4 runner. Its kind of the tits. Its a big SUV but not too big. Perfect size. Only thing is it only gets like 17 to the gallon.

ok then your 2 other options are honda and toyota. this thread is pointless, you can learn everything you want to know from the other 1,513 threads on NS, or the other 450,345,134 pages on google. its a shame they didnt smash into the driver door.

Cute.

I'm guessing you don't drive?

I hit the rear of a van at a stoplight, going not even 10 mph and there was barely any damage on the van. My forester, however, went to the shop and ran up a bill of 6,500. So, since this guy has probably talked to the insurance company numerous times and knows his car, I'm guessing he's not the stupid one here.
