another east coast movie project

aright it seems that the ski movie industry has become really fucking crowded recently, if anyone runs a smaller production company on the east coast (puffy, wbp, junction 133, etc....) i'm gathering sponsors and distribution for 'RED Channels' that is the tentative name for it, i'm also getting music rights for DJ Shadow and RJD2. I'm shooting 3 chip digital and some super 8. time lapses and a mellow mood will be the name of the game here. who wants in?

ok this kind of goes out to everyone, for this i'm trying to assemble a crew of like 6 sick filmers that can sort of be like a filming army. you know go on filming missions and come back with the goods. trust me this is going to be like an elite group of up an coming filmers, this way instead of having 6 average videos we have 1 sick one, its way easier to get exposure that way.

i'd consider it..... some more details on how it's gonna work would be nice. i'm starting to work on a website, if you need help with that. like graphics/site design sort of stuff. i also am pretty good @ being a camera man, minus the fact i don't have my own 'corder.

how do u even plan on doing this? best of luck to you, but i think this seems like one of those 'fall flat on its face' things. Everyone makes a segment? you edit it all yourself? what if your vision isnt the vision of the other kids? Diversity is what we need on the East Coast, as much exposure as possible. I think your idea is decent but massively hard to pull off/bad for things

sounds sick go for it, but the thing is the movie may not flow to well because of the diversity of the minds and all of the people are creative in there own way, but that may make the movie mad sick or suttin

I think it would be really sick if all the filmers all got together one day and got the main point of the project down. Like Ideas, songs, transitions for each segment, etc..... I know my college has a real nice lab with g5's, final cut pro etc. so maybe people could meet there to get everything together at the enf. Just a suggestion, something along those lines. and i know the kid who started this thread (forgot his NS name) is from Fairfield CT, which i live in to... I dunno, it could work

in response to anthony's posts (H30)its not going to be just a bunch of footage all thrown together or anything, but yeah i see your point, this really is just an idea i've been tossing around. I'm a mountain bike film maker/clothing designer, thats how I make money and thats what I do. Skiing is just where my soul is i guess, i've made it in the mountain bike industry but i haven't even started in the ski industry. This was just one of my ideas that i've been playing with. I've got a lot of tecniques that I use in mountain biking that nobody has ever applied to a ski movie. As of now there seems to be a lot of low level interest in this but i'm thinking it won't work as well as I had planned, I just don't think there is enough up and coming filming talent on the east coast. Plus I have specific ways of filming that are key to the final look of my edits. I definately agree with Anthony, just randomly rounding people up isn't the way to do it, i probably should have put more thought into it before I made this post. but either way i'm going to do something that will help progress the filming of skiing. (watch the mountain bike film Third Down, you'll shit when you see some of those shots)

-To that I have to say, you must not be looking in the right spots. There is definately talent out there, you must not be lookin in the right spot buddy. Just because people don't wanna work with you doesn't mean they don't exist.

i see what you mean about specific filming style, but what i would do would be to ask for people's raw unedited footage, and then compile that into a movie. say you have to have X minutes of footage for me to use it, so that you can put more than 2 shots of a single person in.

SKODEO7: i didn't mean it as anything against you, because i think junction 133 is dope, you guys have something really dope going on, but your the exception not the rule, Your a sick filmer and editor, and so is Puffy, and so is Anthony at H30, but there isn't much beyond that. So yes i've looked in the right places and all you guys definitly have your own sick style, i'm know theres a lot more talent, but as i've come to realize there isn't so much that it would warrant the kind of project I was thinking of, and this whole idea is actually really unprofesional and kind of stupid. thats why i like NS so much, because i can bounce ideas around here and get constructive criticism back. thanks guys

its a great idea, just so hard to turn from an idea into an actual project...but if you wanna take a stab at ski cinematography, id love to see your work at the end of the winter, i can always see what cant be used of footage. we have alot more support this winter, so we will be doing alot bigger things...but lemme know how your winter goes, best of luck...its not easy, but its well worth it in the end

i'm not saying there isn't a lot of raw filming talent, but as a whole there isn't this huge undiscovered mass of lots and lots of filmers. there are definitly some really talented guys out here but beyond maybe the 5 or 10 dudes i've seen who else is there? i don't mean this in a negative way or anything, i'd really like to see what is out there...

if you can give me somewhere to host video besides ns.com you can see some of my work fram last season. the skiing isnt the best, but i have gotten a lot of positive response on the editing, its nothin overkill, just kinda simple and straightforward, but it seems to work, so let me know if you have anywhere i can host it for you guys to check out

i think its a good idea, just you cant have in on how we edit (songchoice etc.), we all get segs from wherever we're taking shots and have it split by locale, or filmer
