Another drunk night at the rose

last night at the rose in banff the typical ski bum conversations came up. who got sponsered by who this year, which lines we're skiing way to hard for november, hits and hucks but the one that really got my attention was this idea we've had for awhile. me and my buddies have been talking about making a local ski mag that promotes the local skiers coming out southern alberta and east kootneys. it seems that every year there is another ripper from this area showing up in major ski movies. we're not trying to take away from magazines like powder or skier but to be on a more local level. anyways im just rambling now but im just looking for input as to what you guys would be looking for?

id buy it. cover like events from around western canada so if we missed them we can read about them and see the pictures and stuff.

that's actually an awesome idea, not only for local skiers but anyone who wants to contribute articles or photos as well. i'd definitely read it

If you actually want this to be succesful you'll probably want to cover everything in alberta and bc instead of just this small area. Sick idea though.

one way to go might be to contact some local ski shops and see if they'd be interested in stocking the magazines in the store

don't even fucking bother

do you have any idea how much bullshit is involved in making a ski magazine. You should recognize this as what it is- a drunken ramble. Perhaps in the past some good has come from drunken rambles, but not much, and this is no exception. There is so little to actually cover in a ski magazine for alberta and the market is saturated already. Just work at inventing a new type of fancy phone or something and you will make so much money.A video phone of sorts, or a phone you can actually smell through. HOw bought you invent a smellphone instead.

yeah....except some people on here don't have such a pesimistic and defeatist additide as you do. Yes the market has a lot of ski magazines, but none concentrate on the industry at such a local level, which is what would seperate this magazine from the others. What's more, I doubt anyone would ever expect it to compete with the major magazines, so your comment about the market being too saturated is really just pointless pesimistic ramblings. but hey, the "smellphone" idea is all yours, why don't you just go busy yourself with that.

how you stop ruining dreams you dream stealer, if you dont like it then you dont have to help. Or you could just not tell us how stupid we are!

the thing is we have a good photographer and editor. and its really just to promote the local scene. none of us are in it for the money and we would want to distribute it for free, sorta like ski press but instead of aiming it at middle aged yuppies we would aim it at the youth and local rippers
