Another boring camera thread..

I have searchbar'd before anyone asks... And yes, Hasselbads are meant to be good.. and only 30k. So now that that standard message is out of the way... The searchbar has told me that the following cameras are probably in my price range:
Nikon N70Canon Rebel XSICanon D30

First of all, I live in the UK and I don't even think the Canon Rebel XSI is sold here? Isn't on the uk canon site. There also doesn't seem to be a Nikon N70 in UK, only the Nikon N700... So if there are any euro fags out there.. Maybe they can chime in. What would the best place be to buy a camera from europe?

As for my needs... I'm new to photography, I really have little knowledge regarding photography. But I reckon I could learn what all the options do quite quickly. I want the camera primarily for skiing, scenic shots. Not stupid facebook party photos. I also don't really plan to film any videos, purely photos.
I'd like to get a camera, lens, bag, for up to a max of 375 pounds (630 USD)
I appreciate you get these threads non fucking stop, but I have done my best to at least read 10 or so threads.
Also, I don't mind buying second-hand as I got the impression from the threads that these cameras have very good build quality and thus hold up quite well. I've had a quick look on ebay.
I apologise for this generic thread. +k for help!

Ok.. I guess maybe the threads I checked were old? The Nikon N70 is from 2007 and I can't find it anywhere, the 30D seems to be liekwise... I can find the rebel fine though.
What about the Canon 1000D ?

solid olid, im hear to help.

keh.com is a good site, can pick up new/used/refurbished cameras there

also check out

fredmiranda.com - buy/sell/trade section (site is exclusive unless your just buying you have to pay for membership)

bhphotovideo.com - the economic standard for camera/video gear and stuff

adorama.com - like bhphotovideo, but it helps if your looking for refurbished.

i think you could prolly snag a canon T1i for somewhere near that price, or a canon 30D refurbished with lens, not to familiar on the other brands.

but look into refurbished cameras because the majority of the time they replace all the interior components and leave you with a basically new camera.

as for the best site to search around, give fredmiranda.com a peep, this is a professional site and is filled with deals, mostly canon, if you look for them. (word of advice- clicks = shutter usages, 3k clicks= 3000 shutter usages/ pictures, most cameras are warrentied till 100k i think.)

as for a bag, dont worry about this, you could pick on up at walmart or somewhere for $15 usd

quote/double post for hyper links?

yes the 30D/40D/50D? for canon are all out of production but still popular models and im pretty sure the nikon D70 is out of production too.

Yo, cheers for all the sites. Regarding actually purchasing it, I'd have to go for a European based one because although those sites will ship to the UK, I will get raped with import tax.
As for the T1i seems to be little out of my price range, the ones on ebay are around 425+ and in store its... 580 pounds which is 975dollars!

Mhmm that doesn't look too bad.. i've had a further look and I can get the:
Rebel XS + 18-55 IS Lens Kit for 588 dollars new or..Rebel XSI + 18-55 IS Lens Kit for 705 dollars new..
The latter is slightly over my budget, but if its worth it I will do it. I will need to buy an sd card, bag and lens cleaning kit which I guess would be another 50 dollars overall...
Is it really worth paying more for the XSI than the XS?

Yes, it certainly is. I would say go for it if you can't find any good deals here in the UK. Although you might be able to find a 40D for around that price second hand in the US which might be a better bet although it is slightly more advanced the the XSi/450D.

As for the XS/XSi not being sold in the UK, they are. They are the 1000D and the 450D respectively.

Read up here for some reviews (also has some links to shops in the UK).

It is going to be hard to get anything for £350, for £500 you can get some good deals now if you look around. Look refurbished/second hand is a good idea. If you can find them.

Ones to look at for you Canon wise would be the 450D (perhaps also the 400D?) 40D (second hand/refurb). Look around and there are some good deals in the UK although it will still be cheaper to buy in the USA.

I could get the 450D new from a store for 450 pounds.. Or alternatively I could get it from ebay, new, for 420-430 pounds.

Any particular reason as to why the 450D is worth the 60 pounds more than the 1000d ?

Cheers for the review link!

ya, sorry this isnt a true statement. but for some cameras when i was looking i could purchase a warrenty to cover that, but not standard issued

450D is an all round better camera. It has more in it because it is aimed at a slightly higher market. The 1000D is the entry level Canon DSLR so it has basic stuff on it (focussing/continuous drive) whereas the 450D is the next one up on the line so it has more in it. Thus there is more you can do with the 450D in the long run. For £60 now you will be happier in the long run once you get more used to the camera and what to do more with it. From this respect the more functions on the 450D will be better than the slightly less functions you have with the 1000D.

Best thing I can recommend is go into a camera shop (even if you are not going to buy from them) and hold and play with each camera for a bit and see which one you prefer. I personally would go for the 450D (currently use a 400D and looking to upgrade to the 50D/7D when I have the money).

Cheers for the info.. I'm either going to get a used camera off ebay..

Canon EOS 30D + 18-55mm Lens + EF 75-300mm + bag+extras

I reckon paying up to 300 pounds for that is reasonable?

If I can't get that I'll buy a new 450d with 18-55m Lens for around 410 pounds (friends giving me a discount).

Nikon cameras that start with "N" such as the N70 are 35mm film cameras. I think you've confused it with the D70 which is a semi recent nikon DSLR. Which is a decent camera.

Also, I think you've confused the D30 for the Canon 30D. (i know all this crap is confusing) But anyways, Both are good cameras. I'd go for the 30D if I were you, just because I like Canon. I think it's a well laid out camera, and takes great shots. Not too different from the 40D that I use and love.
