Annoying College Roommates

Anyone have this problem at college?

I have my roommate who was cool to begin with. He was from out of state, plays basketball, and knows a lot about video games. Beginning of first semester hes chill, watches entourage and south park on his tv. I'm fine with it because those shows are great.

As the semester moves on when we talk about a subject he always insists that he is right and I am wrong. Something as simple as "Well that video game looks fun," and he'll return with "Uh no its shit blah blah." So I can't ever talk with him. When I'm clearly trying to study he turns on his xbox and plays at the loudest volume possible and talks to himself while he plays. Also I'm a guy that gets kinda annoyed by repetitive noise, so its the end of January and being out of state he believes its warm enough for shorts. (today it was 5 degrees).......so he gets sick.

Now I'm sitting at my desk doing my own business making no noise while my roommate is coughing hard like hes trying to force a cough every 5 seconds, while talking to himself, while playing xbox at max volume.... every single day.

Normally I'm a nice guy so I deal with it, but now I just can't stand it. And on top of that, his side of the room is dirty as fuck with old boxes and garbage and he never cleans it. So next semester I'm getting an apartment with my friends who are normal.

Anyone else face the bad roommate problem?

tldr: roommate is really annoying, how bout you?

have you tried telling him he is annoying you?

seriously.

you dont always have to be in your room. go make some friends and study in the library. if he annoys you go somewhere else maybe he will take a hint if talking to him doesnt work.

Trying to "get back at him" will make it worse, guaranteed. Have you tried asking him to turn down the volume, or asking him to clean up his shit? Talking to him will work better than anything else you might think of trying.

My roommate is annoying as fuck.

Plays XBOX til 2 in the morning at max volume. always watches "occ" and retarded shows like that. could possibly have ADHD. Stuff that wouldn't normally bother me but add up.

Not to mention he's like 350 lbs so I have that much less room

I do all the time. Its like he just doesn't get it.

Also I was at my friends place all weekend. I even slept in his room just to get away. But I have to be in my rooms sometimes. And I go crazy for the 20 minutes I'm in there.

Not bad, but my korean room mate has never cooked before in her life and we have an apartment style place with a nice kitchen. I'm a little scared because she's using my stuff rather than buying her own pots etc because she'll only be in the country for a few months.I had to show her how to fry bacon Friday. How do you even screw up bacon?

That would involve a hammer to the tv. Also when hes not playing his awesome xbox, hes mashing away at the buttons on his nintendo ds, which is what he is doing now... and coughing up a storm

This is your problem.

Don't be afraid to speak up and create conflict. Just be cool. Stay calm and explain yourself when you don't like something. Be firm about it.

Hope this helps.

say something about it.

junior year I lived with 4 other chicks.

1 girl who never apologized for anything, already had 2 underages and got one on a TUESDAY first week of school.. IN OUR OWN APARTMENT. Raging drunk. wrecked shit, stole alcohol from us, pretended to do nothing wrong. tended to prey on weaker individuals with her charm and then pretty much run them into the ground. SOCIOPATH.

my other roommate that year stole our schoolbooks and sold them back for herself. begged us to giver her another chance, found out she was stealing clothes, money, and checks from us. pressed charges and evicted her.

the OTHER one locked herself in her room every day with her boyfriend who was our neighbor.. one night we were having a party and she came out screaming at us to be quiet. I asked if she could just sleep at her boyfriends place for once. shit went down to say the least. she was my best friend since high school. i do not talk to that cunt anymore.

two of us left for senior year. perfectly content with each other.

so yeah.. lol these were all "friends" during college. you just never know.

Yes dude. Same.
It really sucks. My old roommate moved out this semester which was a fucking miracle. He was cool at the begging at the semester then became a total prick. He didn't get along with anyone else on the floor which was way awkward. My new rommate is pretty cool, he is way more social and gets along with everyone. Brings ton of food into the room and is way down with sharing which is dope.
hope my old roomate doesn't see this post. lol

I got randomly paired up with a buddy from HS, we get along fine and I know him well enough to tell him to do shit I don't like and visa versa, so it works out good. Like any room mate, I want him dead though haha

My housemates are so damn annoying, not as bad as some of yours- no stealing or shit, but its just the constant little things that just keep piling higher and higher and higher. Have to disagree with any little thing you say, even when it should just be a basic statement that anyone could agree with, share the things like toilet paper and soap but when its their turn to buy, get the smallest amount possible, use everyones dishes but then complain when people use theirs... just keep adding little things here and there and its enough to make you go ape shit.

In all honesty you have it easy.
I had a friend in college who's roommate got hooked on H and stole everything of his, disappeared and only came back every once in a while to steal more shit from him.
I had a roomie of my own that decided oxycontin was more important than paying bills, so he would disappear for weeks and then would show up with a check from daddy for all the bills he owed, OR he would just stop by the house when he knew everyone was at work to eat all our food and smoke everyone else's pot if he could find it, then deny it ever happened.
I had another roommate who had a tragic addiction to crazy bitches. No matter which girl he was dating, they would come home shitfaced, get into a literal brawl/screaming match, break shit and get the cops called about once a week. Not cool when you're either trying to sleep, fuck or enjoy a nice buzz.
Right now I share a ski house with 11 people and one of them just decided last weekend to punch holes in the wall because he couldn't find a fucking sock... which he found 30 seconds later. Peace out security deposit!
Seriously, you'll have roommates that will make you wish for that jerkoff back. You better be psyched all you have to deal with is coughing and general annoyances.

I've been lucky, I live with three of my friends for the past couple of years and we all still get along great.
My roommates freshman year though, not so much.

When I was in college, I had one roommate who literally never showered or cleaned himself. It was the most disgusting thing ever. My entire suite just stunk like rotting meat because of him. He would puke on the floor and leave it... Never once cleaned a single thing so I ended up just taking all the dishes back into my room. He then lived off mr noodles for the last 2 months. College roommates usually suck, just do the dorm thing for one year meet friends then get your own place.

First time I went to visit my girlfriend at college her roomate came back drunk at 2am and fucked some dude while we were in the room trying to sleep.

dorm life is so sick especially freshmean year yout meet so many people and everyone is just chilin...gets old after a while but great experience.

I had a single room when I was in res. Didn't need to worry about roommates at all. This year I'm living with a buddy I've known since elementary school, used to be best friends with. It's super chill and our place is big enough that we don't get in eachother's way. Such a good scenario. Next year my current roommate and I are gonna live with 3 other girls... Not sure how that'll turn out. Should be good though.

i didn't like my roommates at all the first semester of college, so i moved to a better residence when the switch came around. one of my roommates did the same thing and we ended up in the same new dorm. we ended up becoming great friends once we had our space back. sometimes that's all you need, and some dorms definitely are better for that than others. i ended up finding an opening in the apt residences with my own kitchen and bathroom. shit was dope!

Its been 3 weeks, and he doesn't even try to get better. Staying up and playing video games and waking up earlier to play doesn't help his sickness

hahaha i had a roommate like this. it seemed like the moment he got to college, his level of common sense just plummeted.

freshman year i lived with a 300lb african american who never showered or left the room. food rotted on his desk and he used my tv to play his childish video games 24 7. he was the most oblivious person so i made fun of him constantly to his face and he never knew. used to also use the freeze button on the tv to simulate lag on xbox live. needless to say he was an idiot

my one roommate now had a fall out with her housing situation, and so did i due to some stupid stuff that happened in canada. so she kept asking me about living together (i only knew this girl from dance and she seemed alright so i went with it)...she was born here but is very much a FOB in many aspects. she doesn't know how to clean anything, she enjoys leaving her underwear hanging on my shower caddy that is a biohazard due to certain times of the month. just straight...hanging there, for the world to see. oh. it doesnt help that she almost flooded our apartment because she didnt see that the drain was plugged for that bin that the washers water goes to. soo...needless to say my cousin and I are moving out after our lease is up. but i know how you feel :]

i moved out of my first room first semester and am now extremely happy in my current room. my roommate situation was awful, i wasn't happy or comfortable where i was living after i got in a huge ass fight with my roommate. i moved in with my good friend and have never been happier. if you're not comfortable where you're at, get out now.

Tell him to drop 60 bucks on turtle beach x11's. It drastically improves your call of duty game and it super high quality sound+mic. That and you won't have to hear and of the noise if you tell him to stop talking to himself.
