Ankle Injury

I injured my ankle snowboarding over a year ago. I landed a jump poorly, on my toe side edge which forced my foot up and heel down. So now I have this recurring issue whenever my foot gets flexed up, outside the normal range but not outside the normal skiing range. Skiing switch is a bit uncomfy. Ski boots help a bit as they don't flex as much but the injury is still nagging. Anyone else experienced this? Any MDs or students that might have an idea of what is injured and why it still comes back, even after a year?

Ankle injuries can be tough. I rolled my ankle way back in the Beartooths five years ago and had to walk the remaining 10 miles out on it and have had problems ever since. By this summer the issues had lessened significantly and I only noticed it after multiple days of backpacking, but it was still noticably weaker than my other ankle. Unfortunately I twisted it again when I blew my knee in december and it still hurts to walk on now. In short: ankles blow. If you think it's a serious problem it wouldn't hurt to go get it checked out by a good doctor, of you can procrastinate like me and probably screw yourself in the long run.

How serious was the initial injury? Mine didn't seem that bad. I knew something happened but it didn't prevent me from continuing, I just had to be more conservative. I can't believe you were still having issues 5 yrs later. That sucks. I know these things linger but I am def not looking forward to several yrs of recovery.

It wasn't something that would bother me every day, I noticed it for maybe two days last year. I bet the problem would have gone away altogether had I not screwed it up again this year. I don't know much about ankle problems other than they can be a real pain in the ass.

yeah i broke my ankle last season and its still kinda fucked up def, i can stand it tho its just kinda annoiying

I stacked really hard a few years ago. I broke a couple of bones in my leg and had some other injuries. 6 months later my ankle would hurt like a MOFO whenever I flexed it foreword. I went to an ankle guy and what happened from the impact I developed bone spurs on my lower leg where it comes into my ankle and it impinged my movement (causing pain). They shaved them off, very simple procedure...all better.

So I'd go to a good ankle guy and they'll get an x-ray etc. Good Luck

I've done something similar to you about two months ago. Landed heavy on the toe of one boot, got loadsa swelling round the front of my ankle, still hasn't completely gone down. Definately get it checked out, otherwise its gonna keep coming back.

Don't know if the x-ray will do it. I rolled my ankle in a moto accident and got x-rays about three years ago, they said there were no broken bones but I don't think they can see ligament damage and stuff like that with an x-ray. Maybe like the dude above said you could get an mri, I think that's what I need. I still get pain once in a blue moon but it doesn't bother me so much that I wanna have surgery or anything like that, I'll save that until I roll it again and reaallly have problems.

MRI can be expensive (if you don't have insurance), but it is better to get on now then to not be able to ski in 5 years+. It might hurt a little now, but it will get worse. Not trying to be pessimistic.
