Surfers have sharks, wakeboarders have alligators, skiiers have...?
At least in SE michigan the scariest thing i have run into was a skunk on the ski hill at night, have you guys had any sweet animal encounters on the slopes??
I saw a pine marten once. Most things are hibernating during the winter in the mountains where I ski. I've seen plenty of chipmunks and a marmot on Hood in the summer though.
Snowbird in the spring is kinda hilarious when all the chipmunks start popping out of their holes. It's kinda like playing 'whack a mole' with your skis.
i was skiing next to the t-bar at breck and i came around a tree and there was this cool looking fox like 3 feet from my ski. i surprised it and it surprised me. pretty cool
at JH, was on a cat track, that took a hard left around rock wall......literally, face-to-face with a huge Moose. Moose immediatelty turned around and ran away. live to ski another day
seriously be aware of cougars they dont don't hibernate my cousin says he saw one at sunshine when he was high on mushrooms, thought he was just trippin but they closed the chair...
Saw a bear from the lift in a patch of trees between two runs at Killy. Also have seen moose at Killy. Lots. Got chased by a mountain lion in the backcountry. Weirdest encounter though was a hedgehog on a groomer at the canyons. Thing was jus chillin. Oh yeah and the infamous Alta rams. Everybody sees those those if ya hike though.
Was tree skiing one time, turned around a tree and there was a lynx sitting there. just starred at us didnt even move. saw a wolf at the hill yesterday.
I've startled many ptarmigan and snowshoe hares and I've seen caribou on the ski hill. A moose broke it's leg in a gully on the ski hill and someone from natural resources had to come and shoot it.
I had a I JUST HIT A FUCKING TURKEY moment twice on the same run. Late in the season the hill fills up with all these big round fat bird things cause its mating season or whatever. At the top i was coming around a fallen tree and one flew out from inside the roots right into my leg, then another one grazed my head near the bottom and it jumped out of a tree. So wish i had a helmet cam on.
