Was happy to see a pic of him at some summer jam on the homepage ( www.cbc.ca ), but I really wish he were holding poles. If you want to ski without poles go ahead but we only get such high profile exposure once in awhile so I think its important for skiers to look their best. And that definitely includes holding poles.

he only uses poles in comps and shoots for movies. our sport is about doing what you want, and if thats what he likes let him do it. he makes it look so steezy anyways

I just think alot of people are going to see that and get a false impression of freeskiing in general. because the vast majority of us use poles and it is also and import way of differentiating our sport from boarding and blading. because someone who knows nothing about skiing will see that and say 'freeskiers dont use poles, the only other people i know that dont use poles are snowboarders and children learning to snowplow'

why does he need poles for a summer big air jump where no turning, or skating, but only flipping, spinning, and grabbing is necessary?

the snowboarders didnt need poles. so i don't see why andy mahre does.

ps, i wish they had caught him grabbing in the picture.

Oh my god come on. Why you would ever need poles in a rail jam is beyond me. let him ski like that and try it yourself, it helps your balance stance and steeze. maybe i just have much different opinions but i could care less about what some ignorant people think of our sport

i suppose everyone needs something to set them apart, but come on. If we're fighting for respect outside of our own community -- i think going nopoles is a step backwards.

time will tell though

fuckin people need to get over the fact that he doesn't use pole sometimes. it's not like he rides without them all the time. why don't you just watch his segments in WAR and THE HIT LIST and you'll shut the fuck up. riding without poles is fun, and it helps you with your balance. all you motherfuckers are just biting his style because it's something you don't see everyday.

When i watched Andy at Mammoth wothout poles all I could think of was snowblading or inline....

Skiing has a certain style....the very same idiots who say it looks "steezy" are the same assclowns that go off on skiboarders...Pick a stance which is it...

If Andy's style is cool, the skiboarding is OK also!

If Andy's style looks like skiboarding or inline skating and you think those two sports are for "homos" then you are a hypocrite if your arguing for skiing without poles...

Personally,

It does not matter to me what people do on snow and what Andy does is an artform and kills it...But I also like skiboarding and snowboarding, I see all snow sports as the same...

Don't be a hypocrit to sound cool
