I really came into this project with just some basic woodworking knowledge, but not much more. Honestly I had never touched a router before, or worked with fiberglass at all, both of which are pretty key components to the project. Really it just took hours and hours of research, lots of patience, and the desire to learn something new. When I built the skis I probably had at least one practice piece from scrap wood for every piece that went into the final mold or skis, just so I could figure out the best way to make it work.
Nugget.$, good luck with your build, feel free to shoot me any questions you've got as you get going.
keenski_k2, I would think park skis would totally be doable, although I'd make a few changes, such as using tip and tail spacers and plastic sidewall, but you're right in that I wouldn't expect something that I built in my garage to hold up to the abuse of park skiing like a professionally manufactured ski. Also, in my opinion there are so many options for park skis out there already why not build something a little more different and creative.
And finally, I never like to post here without a few pics so here's some my sister-in-law sent of the splitboard on its maiden voyage.
