AndrewZ learned how to make skis!

Wow those skis turned out awesome! They look great and I bet they ride great too. I was thinking about making skis the other day and wondered what was involved. Now I see it's a little more complicated then I had imagined. haha. Great job!

I kinda want to do this to make the fattest skis possible just for shits and giggles.

That's some quality work there though! Wouldn't be surprised if you were working for a company like On3p in the future!

thats so amazing. i just read through all 3 pages and im impressed. do you think it would ever be possible to make a park ski or would durability just be too much of an issue?

what kinda experience do you have to be able to carry out a project like that? engineer or something? just know a lot about different tools and stuff?

I really came into this project with just some basic woodworking knowledge, but not much more. Honestly I had never touched a router before, or worked with fiberglass at all, both of which are pretty key components to the project. Really it just took hours and hours of research, lots of patience, and the desire to learn something new. When I built the skis I probably had at least one practice piece from scrap wood for every piece that went into the final mold or skis, just so I could figure out the best way to make it work.

Nugget.$, good luck with your build, feel free to shoot me any questions you've got as you get going.

keenski_k2, I would think park skis would totally be doable, although I'd make a few changes, such as using tip and tail spacers and plastic sidewall, but you're right in that I wouldn't expect something that I built in my garage to hold up to the abuse of park skiing like a professionally manufactured ski. Also, in my opinion there are so many options for park skis out there already why not build something a little more different and creative.

And finally, I never like to post here without a few pics so here's some my sister-in-law sent of the splitboard on its maiden voyage.
