Ancient Confession Found: We Invented Jesus Christ

I really hope this is real.

London (PRWEB UK) 8 October 2013

American Biblical scholar Joseph Atwill will be appearing before the British public for the first time in London on the 19th of October to present a controversial new discovery: ancient confessions recently uncovered now prove, according to Atwill, that the New Testament was written by first-century Roman aristocrats and that they fabricated the entire story of Jesus Christ. His presentation will be part of a one-day symposium entitled "Covert Messiah" at Conway Hall in Holborn (full details can be found at http://www.covertmessiah.com).

Although to many scholars his theory seems outlandish, and is sure to upset some believers, Atwill regards his evidence as conclusive and is confident its acceptance is only a matter of time. "I present my work with some ambivalence, as I do not want to directly cause Christians any harm," he acknowledges, "but this is important for our culture. Alert citizens need to know the truth about our past so we can understand how and why governments create false histories and false gods. They often do it to obtain a social order that is against the best interests of the common people."

Atwill asserts that Christianity did not really begin as a religion, but a sophisticated government project, a kind of propaganda exercise used to pacify the subjects of the Roman Empire. "Jewish sects in Palestine at the time, who were waiting for a prophesied warrior Messiah, were a constant source of violent insurrection during the first century," he explains. "When the Romans had exhausted conventional means of quashing rebellion, they switched to psychological warfare. They surmised that the way to stop the spread of zealous Jewish missionary activity was to create a competing belief system. That's when the 'peaceful' Messiah story was invented. Instead of inspiring warfare, this Messiah urged turn-the-other-cheek pacifism and encouraged Jews to 'give onto Caesar' and pay their taxes to Rome."

Was Jesus based on a real person from history? "The short answer is no," Atwill insists, "in fact he may be the only fictional character in literature whose entire life story can be traced to other sources. Once those sources are all laid bare, there's simply nothing left."

Atwill's most intriguing discovery came to him while he was studying "Wars of the Jews" by Josephus [the only surviving first-person historical account of first-century Judea] alongside the New Testament. "I started to notice a sequence of parallels between the two texts," he recounts. "Although it's been recognised by Christian scholars for centuries that the prophesies of Jesus appear to be fulfilled by what Josephus wrote about in the First Jewish-Roman war, I was seeing dozens more. What seems to have eluded many scholars is that the sequence of events and locations of Jesus ministry are more or less the same as the sequence of events and locations of the military campaign of [Emperor] Titus Flavius as described by Josephus. This is clear evidence of a deliberately constructed pattern. The biography of Jesus is actually constructed, tip to stern, on prior stories, but especially on the biography of a Roman Caesar."

How could this go unnoticed in the most scrutinised books of all time? "Many of the parallels are conceptual or poetic, so they aren't all immediately obvious. After all, the authors did not want the average believer to see what they were doing, but they did want the alert reader to see it. An educated Roman in the ruling class would probably have recognised the literary game being played." Atwill maintains he can demonstrate that "the Roman Caesars left us a kind of puzzle literature that was meant to be solved by future generations, and the solution to that puzzle is 'We invented Jesus Christ, and we're proud of it.'"

Is this the beginning of the end of Christianity? "Probably not," grants Atwill, "but what my work has done is give permission to many of those ready to leave the religion to make a clean break. We've got the evidence now to show exactly where the story of Jesus came from. Although Christianity can be a comfort to some, it can also be very damaging and repressive, an insidious form of mind control that has led to blind acceptance of serfdom, poverty, and war throughout history. To this day, especially in the United States, it is used to create support for war in the Middle East."

Atwill encourages skeptics to challenge him at Conway Hall, where after the presentations there is likely to be a lively Q&A session. Joining Mr.Atwill will be fellow scholar Kenneth Humphreys, author of the book "Jesus Never Existed."

This is it. This is what will destroy the world. Prepare for an age of radical religious wars that encompass the planet.

If this is true....then America is going to go crazy.

God I really hope this is true and gets it fair share of media exposure...Just as long as theres some proof

OH FUCK AMERICA IS GONNA EXPLODE

RUSSIANS ARE INVADING WITH THE KOREANS

TSUNAMIS ON BOTH COASTS

SKIERMAN FINALLY BECOMES A NICE GUY

So wait... you mean to tell me that the story of a virgin giving birth to a white man in the middle east that could turn water into wine, walk on water and come back from the dead only to float up into the sky is MADE UP!?

omg, the implications of such a revelation...

Dead sea scrolls??? Have no record of Jesus?? Only reference a carpenter?? Jesus didn't "exist" until around 100 years after he was supposedly crucified??

Hopefully it motivates some people to open their eyes and remove themselves from this fake shelter that has been created by religion. I understand some people need something like religion to stay sane, but it's ridiculous people spend their entire lives praying and worshiping something just to make them sleep better at night.

Religion has its place, its a good way to teach morals and ethics to kids, but it also has a very evil side too. The mormon religion was literally created as a business and now they pull in 10% of millions of peoples salaries every year and thats just one part that generates revenue, not to mention its all tax free.

So I wonder how he explains the fact that Jesus Christ is mentioned as being an influential spiritual leader in both the Koran and in Jewish literature dating back to the time of Christ. Was it a conspiracy that involved non-Christian Jews and Muslims? That would be pretty impressive if some fat Roman Aristocrats were able to unite different faiths in a conspiracy to create a new faith, much less getting Muslims and Jews to collaborate on anything.

People are entitled to their own beliefs and have the freedom to practice whatever religion they choose to. If you want to worship Quarter Pounder w/ Cheese wrappers, that is your right.

The truly pathetic thing is when people try to undermine other people's religious faith. You pretty much have to have the biggest insecurity complex imaginable to go that route.

To much faith is what is killing humanity. People need to go out and do. Life shouldn't revolve around pleasing a figure of faith. Sin is universal. If you are going to have faith in something have faith in yourself. Not a flying spaghetti monster.

He was definitely mentioned in the Torah. You can google it for specific references. It's not like the references were very flattering, but he definitely existed. Jesus Christ was very controversial for Jewish Spiritual leaders. They refer to him as a "son of a whore". If he didn't exist and/or was not someone who had any influence, why would they have gone through the trouble of writing in the Torah, that he was the son of a whore?

His name was not mentioned throughout the Torah though to my understanding. I don't believe by alluding to someone who was the "son of a whore" means that it was directly related to Jesus. Also, some people within Judaism believe in his existence, but obviously not that he was the Messiah.

But at the end of the day, if what you believe in makes you a better person and a better human being, then I dont give a fuck what you believe. Keep on keepin on.

This, if people think that people who believe in something they have no proof of then why the fuck would they believe something that's more likely to be fake than god itself.

at this [point i think that religion is just too big of a thing worldwide and something like this wont sway it at all. look at all the people that go just to hear the pope speak and stuff. its crazy.

You are right, I was wrong. Actually, the Torah, which the old Testament is based on, was written before Christ was born.

There are many references to him in various texts from that time written by Jews. He is mentioned many times in the Koran. Ironically, what is in the Koran is very favorably. Many of the miracles that Jesus performed are talked about in the Koran.

lol yeah because religion has been so deeply rooted in facts and evidence, this should have a huge impact.

On opposite day, that is.

As much as I want this to be true, I have a feeling this isn't much more than sensationalist "news."

Here's something I was thinking about. If this was an article saying we invented Muhammad, this dude would be dead or in hiding already.

But was he explicitly mentioned in any texts that were written around the time that he supposed to have lived? The Koran is hardly a relevant source of evidence, considering it was written over 600 after Jesus' life.

Dead Sea Scrolls. They were written by people who were historians of that era, weren't Jews, Christians, or any other religion, just kind of nomads who recorded everything during that time period. They have no mention of Jesus.

In fact, when they were discovered the State of Israel didn't even release all the scrolls by request of the Vatican I believe. Eventually they were fully released and have been analyzed and show no mention of a man named Jesus Christ. Which is strange because all of the other major religion influences are recorded in them, false messiahs and others (i don't remember exactly who).

Not really. Whether it's true or false people are still going to believe.

Gotta have faith'd

It would be funny if it was 100% proven though. All these people and their personal relationships with jesus.

Its not going to come out to anything.

Its about the same level as the minister who said the word was going to end in 2012/13.

I mean, if this was as HUGE as its supposed to be, and it was as UNBELIEVABLY TRUE as they say it is, then why are they holding the conference at such a small venue, and only charging 25 pounds for entrance? ( yes I understand that this is a center of anti-theism, etc, but if this is as earthshaking as they make it, I feel like they would be doing this a bit bigger )

This is simply to make a profit, and is a giant advertising campaign. You have different authors touting their books, and some guy showing his documentary. They may come out with some new info, but more than likely, some sort of religious scholar will step up, and they will respond with some sort of idiotically/typical reply such as, prove that there is a god.

All to stir controversy

Dude, the Torah is the first five books of the Old Testament. This is ridiculous to say that "the old testaent is based on the Torah." You clearly have no idea what you are talking about.

There are also many other religions with a man born from virgin birth. who was the son of god, had 12 disciples, walked on water and turned water into wine, it was nothing new.

If the Romans were attempting to create a religion to make peace in the middle-east, why did they try so hard to smother it out of existence?
