An Unusual What Ski Thread

So my family is about to go shred snowbird with me, and my dad is looking to demo something a little fatter than your standard 70 underfoot performance rental ski.

he definitely wants traditional camber and not TOO fat, something 90ish underfoot would be ideal.

needs to come in a low 180s length.

also needs to be somewhat forgiving, since hes not 20 years old anymore, no skis that are gonna take him for a ride. thoughts?

Ninthward First Blood would be perfect. 91 underfoot, 180, with a long running length, nice flex pattern, and the nose-tip width differences means it slays the whole mountain.

i doubt the demo place in snowbird will have those though. going to have to go with more traditional/bigger companies.

I know you said traditional camber...but Kung Fujas or Rossi S3s would be really fun, both a mid 90s underfoot and tip and tail rockered (very mellow though).
As far as a traditional camber with a mid 90 underfoot that is forgiving, maybe an Atomic Patent (it's symmetrical, but it's 95 underfoot), Volkl Bridge (maybe the best bet for a traditional camber mid 90s - but it's a bit stiffer), or a Salomon Shogun (a bit wider at 100 underfoot, but light bamboo core, fairly even and forgiving flex).
I'd say, best picks would be between the S3, Bridge, or Shogun (Shogun would be my personal top pick - but I've been wanting to try a pair out for a while now).

If you already know that they don't have that. tell us what they do have and it'll be a lot better then getting a bunch of responses of ski's that the demo shop doesn't have

he definitely wants to shred some pow, and be able to push through crud if they dont get much new snow. nothing SUPER steep and gnarly, but pretty much all mountain exploration. haha and no park obviously, so twin is not necessary

definitely will look at the backlash

and do you mean the lord? czar is pretty fat, and i believe rockered as well.

Czar's are over 100mm waist (105mm @ 166cm, 108mm @ 174cm, 111mm @ 182cm, and 114mm @ 190cm) and they're rockered a fairly good amount.

hmm. definitely wont put him on the bridge. ive ridden the bridge, and i dont think ive ever hated a ski more haha.

the shogun is pushing it on width. might be able to talk him into the kung fujas or s3. but he really doesnt want to do rocker, its already taken him long enough to even decide he wanted to try something remotely fat underfoot haha

yeah that would be prime, and still a flat tail.

i was pondering the legend series but im concerned about them being TOO stiff/chargy, anyone have any input?

I don't know about snowbird, but head up the canyon a bit and Alta demos LINE, K2, Black Diamond and some other brands, I'd try out some prophets...

Legend Mythic is a nice ski aswell. I've only ridden it once, on groomers, but it's very stable. It's also very stiff, and probably less forgiving than the Backlash. But if he's looking to mostly cruise, and get off piste for a bit, it's worth a try. Faultless build quality aswell.

This might be the solution:http://www.dynastar.com/#/products/da9mb11-6th-sense-big-
Incase that link fails cause dynastar's site is weird, Dynastar Sixth Sense Big, Regular Camber, 92mm underfoot, pretty forgiving, pretty much exactly what he's looking for.
Another option is the Line Flite, it has the specs of the Prophet 90 (90mm underfoot), but it's lighter and more forgiving.

try to get something flat tailed if he's not riding switch..

Dynastar has some skinnier skis similar to XXLs that could work. Also Rossi Phantoms(probably a slight twin), I think there's a 98 waisted one.

id rather go more forgiving i think. but thanks for all the suggestions guys, i definitely have some ideas now.

considering i live in PA, im no pow expert...but dont you think you should practically force him to get on slightly rockered skis if hes skiing powder? wouldnt it make it a way for enjoyable experience?

since you're demoing, your not going to have a big selection of skis. probably not many of the skis anyone has mentioned here.

he will probably end up with K2 Apaches (or something in that K2 line). im calling that now

i 2nd this.the fattest thing i've seen is the shogun, which you have already ruled out.I really like the shogun though, and so did my dead, who seems similar to yours

obseths are amazing at snowbird i used them this year for a week there and it was a great time. Also the main rental ski at the bird is actualy the s7 (i no it's realy weird) so take a look at that
