An Idea to Limit Baggage Fees

I don't respect fat people that aren't doing anything about their condition and it is a condition. you dont have to be morbidly obese.

and yeah i hate the fact that they chrage you over weight fees but then youre shit still eventually gets on the plane anyway! so it obviously doesnt have much of an effect on the plane, maybe like $5 fuel, certainly not the hundreds they charge.

Sounds like Air Travel is fun for you. I guess it comes down to abit of demeanor as well, if you know you have't done anything wrong, it shows. kinda. I've been stopped a few times coming back from Amsterdam from competitions. Always funny getting the stare down as you come through the "Nothing to Declare gate."

I once got out of paying a $300 over weight charge because their desk's credit card machine was faulty and they couldn't find the manual old school sliding thing to charge my card. The over weight was due to my then Fucking princess of a girlfriend needed so much stuff moving back to England from Greece. They eventually just let us the flight no cost incurred. Shows they can most of the time waiver the costs for the right person. A little bit BS.

yeah fucking right this country won't change until people realize the should be accountable for their actions which will never happen

i just purchased my weight in alpaca goods from ecuador. i am crossing my fingers for no baggage fees but we shall see. and sitting beside fat people on airplanes suck..

wow this feel weird posting after almost a month of no ns

I've only paid baggage fees once, that was for a checked ski bag, and it was on an airline I wasn't very happy with. I fly almost exclusively Alaska, and I've never had a problem.

But I like the idea, actually.

they could just check passengers' ids, and plug their given heights into a bmi chart.

url]

then they could give each passenger 100lbs of "free weight" above what the bmi chart says is the maximum weight for a 'normal' bmi based off of their height. the 100 lbs would be a combination of their baggage - external and internal - , and i think this would be completely legal to do because (as far as i know) scientists accept that while bmi charts aren't accurate for finding fat percentages, they are accurate at differentiating what weights are appropriate for a certain body size.

id personally love to see something like this happen.

(also sorry if that embed doesn't work above)

continental onepass credit card

2 free united club passes per year

first bag checked free for you and anyone in your party

priority boarding so you can take up all the overhead bin space. (I've seen people bring a helmet, ski boots, backpack, and carry-on......all on the plane. Boots and helmet stashed up top, backpack under the seat in front of them, and a carry-on stowed up top as well.

After reading this thread i have come to the conclusion that I am discriminatory against fat people.

it's actually worse than that. It's around 2/3 of the population of US are overweight or obese. And it costs the country somewhere around $100 billion in medical costs a year and another $150 billion in indirect costs.

Main type of discrimination that is accepted.

Discriminating against obese people is perfectly okay opposed to race, gender ect because obese people made themselves that way. They have control over what they eat and how much excersize they do, if they don't like being discriminated against they can suck it up and lose weight. However someone does not have control over what race they are.

no, not all obese people chose or have a choice of being the way they are. especially in modern day United States. First of there are genetic factors which cannot be ignored. Even though this may account for a minority, it is still prevalent. Secondly, and probably the main reason, is the food available. While everyone says you can just choose a healthy diet it really isn't that easy. Healthy food is expensive in the US, and there is a huge portion of the country that just cannot afford it. Then looking at even the healthy food available, it's really not so healthy as you think.

I'm going to use milk as an example, and yes, I'm going to compare to Canada as it's the system I know. In the United States there are incredibly few restrictions on products such as milk about the levels of added hormones. this is because the US doesn't use a quota system for their dairy farmers, meaning they get very little for what they produce resulting in huge factory farms where the cows are pumped full of hormones and steroids to increase production. This results in incredibly poor quality milk with very very high levels of blood, puss (from mastitis, which is much more common), and hormones in the milk itself. Then when the drinker has this milk (along with all the other products with added growth hormones), they are most certainly intaking levels of them which are affecting their own body. Now the comparison to Canadian milk is that we have a quota system, where farmers get somewhere like 6-8 times as much for their milk. meaning small family farms can exists. there are also strict rules against the levels of blood and puss and hormones in our milk. It's actually why in Canada, we are not allowed to call milk from the United States "Milk". It has to be labelled as 'modified milk ingredients' or similar. but milk is only an example out of many. even the healthy food available just isn't that healthy sometimes.

oops, forgot the point of that. the point being, there are growth hormones used in almost everything you eat. And they certainly seem to be getting passed through the food chain to the consumers, and the results are pretty damned evident. US needs to start with much stricter rules on food production, which will never happen though.

your genes dont keep you from exercising and not eating healthy, you keep you from exercising and eating healthy.

eat less run more and you wont be fat. Pretty fucking simple if you ask me. If you eat less calories than you burn you will lose weight. Easy as that. Doesnt matter if all your calories come from fat, as long as you eat less than you burn you will lose. This is why i have zero empathy for fat people. It is a condition that is easily remedied.

Of course nobody chooses to be obese, but they do have a choice to fix it in the sense that they can choose to work out, and choose to eat healthier. You can get fruits and vegetables pretty cheap from markets, and obesity is not all about eating healthily.

Obesity is caused by over eating, and not burning enough calories. If you only ate McDonalds for example, so long as you eat for the calories you burn then you will not be obese.

Excersize is free, people can walk to work or go for a jog in the mornings, so the money thing is not an issue at all because you can eat bad food all the time and not be obese, or even overweight. You would be very unhealthy but you wouldn't be obese.

You can control your body, you can choose to excersize and choose to not eat supersized portions of bad food.

Even with the genetics that can make you prone to be overweight can still be counterbalanced, all you have to do is run a few more miles a day.

really i have 7 people in my family and none of them are fat idk where the fuck you live but less then half the people in my town are fat.

read my post 2 down, here's the source.

Quoting VinnieF$ from Jul 26 2011 11:17:12:

and here's a government source

http://win.niddk.nih.gov/statistics/

only 31.6% of the US population is a healthy weight.

and obviously people on this website don't see it as much. this is a sports based website and most people on here are from more active families.

I'd love to see some of you guys get off your high horses and see what its like to weigh 300lbs for a week.

Is obesity based of bmi or body fat percentage?

And to the op, I would be pissed if this happens. I am 6 foot 5 inches and 240 pounds. I am not fat either. I would get raped on this new system.

I think it's calculated with both as BMI is not an accurate measure because of muscle.

Someone with a low body fat percentage could be seen as obese by BMI if they have a lot of muscle.

One time I left the country for 6 months and I brought 2 checked bags. I've left the country for 2-3 months before and never felt the need to bring more than 1 checked bag unless I was skiing. When I'm skiing I fly on airlines that will let you bring your skis as a regular checked bag, and then I throw all my stuff in the bag with the skis.

If you don't want to pay the fees why not just bring less bullshit?

Every time I've flown, I've managed to easily fit a weeks worth of shit in a duffle bag and carried it on along with a backpack.

This idea is stupid. You really want to further slow down the airport process with this shitty weight system that won't be able to take into account 200 lbs of muscle or 200 lbs of fat unless EVERY SINGLE PERSON takes a bmi test?

Some people will argue that people cannot necessarily afford high quality nutritious food.

To illustrate my point....

1. you are loaded and work 33 hours a week

2. you have gym memberships....multiple ones...at your golf course, ski resort, actual gym, and that pathetic workout room you have at home

3. you have a nanny to care for children, and a maid.

4. you or your wife can afford (to invest your time and money) in to delicious nutritious food.

Go live on your own for once. It is plenty easy to live on shitty food. In fact your time is stretched so thing sometimes that you find yourself resorting to shit food (e.g. mcdonalds) out of pure desperation.

Then you say but why not buy the salad at mcdonalds. If you are poor are you spending $5.39 on a salad, or are you spending $2.12 on 2 mcdouble cheeseburgers?

Spices, herbs, fresh vegetables, and fruit are all costly items. Not to mention some decent meat, poultry, or seafood.

All of a sudden that pack of 8 hot dogs for a buck with the carb-load of pasta roni for a buck makes $ense.

so, uh, eat less of that shitty food and you wont gain weight!?

If you eat 4000 calories of turkey and salads, most people would still be gaining unhealthy weight. JUST DONT EAT AS MUCH!!!! it will save you money and make you healthier(speaking to the population of fatasses out there).

why is it so fucking difficult for fat fucks to get this through their dome?

you are retarded

I mean seriously,

just think of your retarded logic here for 31 seconds.

what does 4000 calories of vegetables look like? a metric ton.

what does 4000 calories of mcdonalds look like? one meal

I am all for people losing weight, and even insurance companies, airlines, buses, and so on charging extra for the space/liability they pose.

Honestly, imagine having to escape out on the Hudson river with 67% of the plane being obese people. Obese people should pay more for a business class or first class seat and be required to fly first or business (because they are first on/off the plane).

Obese people should pay higher insurance premiums due to the obvious additional health liabilities they have that will eventually be a burden on society in the event they go broke and resort to public hospitals and free medical care.

I am just pointing out some shit here that if you working 40 or doing a school/work hybrid thing. Its too easy to say "lets fill that craving for...." and get some shitty food.

Theres like 4 places making a difference in regard to quality fast food. Subway, Quiznos, Jimmy Johns, and Panera.

As fat people have to sit with their reality (literally), I think they learn it is time to try and change. Imagine having the difficulties fat people have.

I mean imagine being the dork who just can't afterbang, and instead you do some americas funniest home video shit on the hill?

that is the best idea ever. but fortunately neither of us are fat. i think if i was fat i would not agree to being weighed and charged like baggage haha.

Why is it so hard to understand. If you go to mcdonalds, order 1 cheeseburger, and thats it. thats 350 calories x 3 meals a day and youre garaunteed to lose weight.

How is that retarded?

AIRLINES PICKED UP SOMETHING LIKE 100BILLION DOLLARS IN EXTRA FEES IN 2010.

IVE NEVER HAD THAT PROBLEM. I FLY WESTJET USUALLY AND THEY LET YOU TAKE SKIS+BOOTBAG FOR FREE, I PACK ALL MY OUTERWEAR WITH MY SKIS AND SHOVE MY HELMET IN WITH MY BOOTS.

THEN I BRING A CHECK A MEDIUM SIZE BAG, I DONT EVEN NEED A CARRY ON.
