An Idea and a proposal for Pipe Skiing

As i was watching the summer olympics last night, i realized that the grandeur of the olympic stage can do a lot for an athlete and a country. but what it really does is provide a very large stage for the sport on display. Take, for example, swimming and gymnastics. These sports don't have a huge following until the olympics. Then, all of a sudden, these sports are uplifted above almost all others.

I believe this would be great for pipe skiing. But we need to let the world know that this is a legitimate and exciting sport that should be included in the Vancouver 2010 games. So i thought 'whats the ebst way to let the world know? Here's my idea:

Every pipe skier in this upcoming x-games should try to convince their sponsers to let them wear a tshirt (tall tee, bib number, or even a badge on their jacket) that simply states "skiing in vancouver 2010" or something to that effect. In addition, sponsers should make tshirts to hand out to spectators to further promote their cause. I feel that the xgames is the bigggest stage for our sport, second only to the olympics.

It is a modest proposal, and I feel that the sponsors could make this happen. So sponsors, and newschoolers, post in the thread if you feel this is a good idea, industery types, get the word out, athletes, make this a priority if you so choose.

lets make this happen.

i think its a good idea. only question is how are you going to make every pipe skier wear it?

ummm. ec headwear?

ya, i was about to say...

but it's too late, the IOC has already chosen the sports for 2010, let's try for 2014, where there's a legit chance.

I was thinking this whole skiing in the olympics thing, and i realized there probably are drug tests. just think how many skiers would be fucked

You have a funny name

And they really should have it, someone should set up a petition. Or is there already one i can sign somewhere.

Handing a t-shirt to each of the spectators is a crazy good idea I think. That would really push to get the spectators to say something as well.

this is a great idea.

on the topic of drug tests i remember in the last winter olympics a canadian competing in boardercross tested positive for weed and they tried to say it was used as a performance enhancing drug and he said something along the lines of "umm, it oppositly to that"

i haves teh idea. all the pros should pull a Jon and start training in other disciplines, win them at the Olympics since they slay so much harder than any other athletes, then in the interviews be like, i only did this cause those DOUCHEBAGS wouldn't put superpipe in. and then be like, NS!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This needs to happen. It will be a skiing event that the US will have an above average chance at gold, Tanner Hall will be a national hero, and Chevy will soon start sponsoring athletes. $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

No sarcasm here by the way, how sick would it be to know if you could pull an olympic medal, you probably get paid from sponsors upwards of six digits.

2010 would be pure glory, WSI pipe, but 2014 needs to happen simply for sustainability reasons.

And to Joe Visuer, I thought the same thing after watching these olympics..

wait, if they wore the t-shirts, nobody would see them... they wear a jacket, because it is winter, and a bib, which is basically skin tight on them...

I say we all just get naked and run around yelling tanners name during the ski downhill finals as retribution for not putting skiing half pipe in the olympics.

On another note, half pipe or not I will be sleeping in a tent in the woods somewhere near whistler during the olypmics, anyone else down?~~

Yah I agree, but skiing will NEVER be as elite as swimming and gymnastics. Poeple like to watch it because it is so elite and so "perfect", and that makes it much more dramatic. No action sport can be like those couple elite sports. Plus that just makes the podium more dramatic.

Nah man that one snowboarder got his medal taken away for marij, then they gave it back because he got it accidentally or something.

I think its bullshit that skier x is in the fucking x-games and half pipe is not. I guarantee way more people watch the half pipe at the x games then skier x. And its so gay because i really wanted to see Tanner win a gold medal. For all he's done and won for this sport, he deserves the greatest achievement of all. It still might happen but he will be pretty old by then, by skiing standards anyways.

I think it is a good idea but i think its to late, needed to happen at this years x-games, however getting half-pipe into the 2014 is vital for the growth of our sport.

"fuck fis"?

how about FUCK YOU!

you realize that FIS is the only one that has done anything positive for pipe skiing? FIS created an organized pipe circuit and without that there would never be a hope in hell of ever seeing a ski pipe event in the Olympics.

FIS has absolutely nothing to do with the IOC's decision regarding new sports being introduced except from stictly a lobbiest position. why did the IOC allow ski-cross? pay close attention to the FIS ski-cross circuit and the pipe circuit and see which one is more successful.
