An anti-MSP sticky

MSP is not affiliated with NS right? well, through whistler maybe, but would whistler get pissed?

if this TBC-MSP controversy is descovered to be true, would it be cool to establish a sticky informing the NS community?

i'm sorry, but i just can't stand back and take teh ruthless business tactics of MSP to go on unaffronted. if we can at least eliminate the NS portion of MSP's business maybe we can have some affect on teh industry. MSP killing TBC is bullshit, especailyl killing TBC because of sponsor representation in the movie. TBC was the best ski movie i've seen, in terms of style, originality editing, all coming together for one movie. we cannot allow the ruthless corporte business nature to invade skiing, or else the ski film (or skiing) will never evolve to teh point that snowboarding has. the corporate nature of MSP invites cookie-cutter sameness of videos, mostly aimed at teh "pop-culture" orf skiing, skiers who aren't core skiers: weekenders, old-fartbags, warren miller.

if we can create a sticky, we can inform a decent portion of the skiing population, which might have some effect MSP sales, and thus their future sponsor ship and eliminate this sort of thing from ever happenign again. if it does nothing, so be it, but at least we tried.

Umm...I agree to boycott MSP, this includes not going to premieres, buying movies, or buying merchandise from them. Yep, that's where I am right now, I hope some people have a heart and will follow me.

the thread would need an explanation supported by evidence of why there is no TBC. anyoen know how to contact rostrup/ostness?

think of all the athletes you would be letting down if you boycotted msp. i refuse to boycot msp, however i will NOT be giving the management ANY high fives in the near future!

how does that affect the athletes? they already got hooked up with trips and recognition in a film. i feel liek athletes get like .000005% of sales dude

i just wrote this in a response to a PM i recieved:

What if Matchstick noticed and respected Ostness' sheer talent and decided that along with him, they would be a great team. Which i am sure here does. Like Pat Riley attaining Shaq to create a great team. Ostness obvioulsy did not decline the offer and maybe BOTH of them see a greater potential and synergy together. Separate, they are only so good, but together they might be dynomite. Ostness' creativity is unmatched, and MSP's budget and resources is what Ostness deserves to have access to. Maybe we should be happpy for the guy, he has a guarenteed paycheck now, and a chance to showcase his work on a new level. And we all remember how amazing his work was in Teddybear Crisis on a lower budget.

I refuse to boycott MSP, just because I support the athletes that ride for them. I will always support guys like Mike Wilson, Pollard, Bushfield, and the Dumont.

They worked their ass off, they deserve it.

FUCK MSP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The athletes aren't getting your money when you buy the movie, and the sponsors pay for their trips for the most part. If anything, the athlete is getting a good experience to film with a bunch of rich assholes, and they get lots of exposure for themselves, and the sponsors will pay them more because of that exposure. Really, no matter what situation, the athlete will find a way to get that money, because if MSP starts losing sales, the athlete's sponsors won't want to pay him to film with them, and say a company like TGR or whatever (doesn't really matter) starts making more sales than MSP did, the company will try and get their athlete to film with that certain company.

Hahaha...that is entirely untrue...just so you know, the bike side of MSP is based in my hometown, so I happen to have a pretty basic idea on what their budget is like...I have a friend who's brother is a pro biker who films with them, and last summer they purchased a $100,000 video camera...seeing as they use more than 1 camera, I can't even imagine their budget. Renting a helicopter for a day is more than $4000, I know this, because my dad used to be a pilot, and flying definately is far from cheap. So if they aren't so "rich" how can they afford to fly their own personal helicopter (that costed them money too) to these remote locations following wherever it snows. Not to mention all the trips they go on, boats they rent, etc. I'm not saying that all film companies are rich in the industry, because I know that most of them are FAR from it. But I do know for certain, that MSP is richer than you may be imagining.

And just so you guys no, I like all of you, I have so much respect for you guys for skiing and making it the thing you love, I just really want you to realize things, my posts are not personal attacks in any way.

I wasn't talkin about money bro. I just said support. I mean, yeah, even if I knew that just one of my dollars would make it to Rory's hands, I'd still buy the flick.

But man, when you're out bustin your ass for a shot, nothin feels better than stickin it and knowing that it's goin in the movie. So when these guys do it for a living, I feel compelled to do what I feel is right, and that is to support the effort that is inspiring me.

The new Red Hot Chili Peppers record just came out. I've been a fan since Blood Sugar Sex Magik. I could have downloaded it on Limewire, but I didn't, and I know that they are getting pennies on the dollar from the record companies, and I don't like the record companies, but I respect the musicianship of RHCP so much that I'd rather pay 16 dollars worth of respect to listen to what they have worked SO hard on. That's what I would want if I were an artist.

I'd rather pay homage to guys that are so inspiring to me(without Mike Wilson and Eric Pollard, I'd be snowboarding), than "stick it to the man".

you have to support the riders, they work so hard all winter! Its like pissing all their work away if you boycott it.

This is the last post I make in this thread...because it is retarded (no effence)...the athletes don't make the choice to film with a company, they are forced to with a little thing called.

(money if the picture doesn't work for you)

And riders aren't even paid by the film company...they are paid by their sponsors. So NO MATTER WHAT, they will be producing a movie segment, I doubt it they give a fuck if you buy the movie from the specific company they filmed with.

From now on, I'm only going to post in the threads that don't create messes like this.

FIRST OF ALL, there are always 2 sides to every story, so lets find out the other side.

Secondly, guess what kiddies? The ski industry is a business, just like any other business. What MSP allegedly did, is EXACTLY what you would want them to do if you were Helly Hanson. They showed them that they could get much more product and logo screen time with MSP. Do you really think Helly was just throwing 30-50K at TBC because they were excited about how cool the movie would be? They, like most well run companies could give a shit. You would want the most exposure you can get. The production company that can give me the best exposure and the most time with my products on the screen is the company I am going to give my fucking money to. Helly does not sponsor movies because they like skiing, they do it because it is ADVERTISING. I do not like MSP movies at all, in fact, I really dislike them, but until one of you own a fucking business and understand what "the bottom line" is, remember this, EVERYONE who is in this industry still has to pay the bills. This is just like when you douchbags tried calling J Lev out. MSP sucks because their movies aren't good, not because they have a solid understanding of how the business world works...

MSP is out to make money, as most companies are... and since I still wanna watch what all the atheletes worked all season to make I'll probably burn myself a copy of someone elses dvd... and wont lost any sleep over it.

keep in mind that this is all heresay. I know a few skiers (and currently live with one) who worked or filmed with Ostness this season, and none of them had any idea that MSP went out of its way to steal Helly Hanson from TBC. All this speculation arose from one person asking if anybody could confirm or deny what he had heard. Don't jump to conclusions too quickly.

But even if it IS true and MSP mercilessly stabbed TBC in the back, it's all business. It's life. And it was Helly Hanson's decision to not to sponsor TBC. If it was MSP that had put out an incredible movie last year and TBC had botched their trailer this year, nobody would care.

In honor of all of your ineptitude, i present to you all this convoluted visual representation of NS and its current opinions, contrasted with the grim reality.... itll probably get taken down.

this is simply what I think. Maybe I'll buy it, but why think so far into a company that produces action sports films. You'll be helping out the community way more by boycotting wallmart than MSP.

im not gona stop watching msp cause they have deep pockets or some shit like that. They started out small and worked their way up, that deserves some props and for the most part its just not worth my time and effort to boycott them

yeah fuck msp, yeah i know its a buisness and all that crap, but seriously, thats so fucking gay that they did that, im definatly not buying a movie from them, the only way i will is if i buy one and put it online so everyone can watch it without giving msp any money, that way we arent being mean to the riders cause we still can see them skiing, even though i think that would be helping the riders because mabye in the future they wouldnt have to film with the gayest ski movie company ever.

MSP is on top because they worked to get their, you can accept that or not. But you guys need to shut up already. None of you know the real truth behind things there is no concrete evidence behind anything said here at all. Winter makes a good living pumping out sick videos. And if you say they are not sick, thats your desicion but its just denial.

Ostness hired on so he could make more MONEY. but your not gunna put him in a bad light are you? Didn't think so. So you are gunna get mad at the person that is offering him more, not at the one accepting it. Huh.

That's where you're wrong. You're entitled to your opinion, but surprising as it seems, some people here have followed this, and do know what's going on. We're not all 16 year old kids trying to claim by starting their own film comp- well, you know, some people here have some idea what's going on. That's what I'm trying to say.

I dunno if the 16 thing was aimed at me but whatever, I think that there might be simliar things happening here mebbe at a little less harsh level, but that is life in the business world. It doesn't mean that Winter is completely out of line, just competetive.

I see it this way, I am a contractor and I just got 3 jobs subbed out from underneath me and now have no work for like a week, because a bigger company gave a better price because they can. Thats how the world works, its just kinda a bummer that everyone has to be that way.

I've argued many times before, the ski industry isn't the business world. I'm in the same shape as you this week work wise, that's why I'm at home posting on here instead of putting on siding. And that's to be expected. But not here. Not in this sport. Other film companies don't act like this, and they shouldn't have to. Steve Winter is quite simply an asshole. And after years of this same shit, it's absolutely impossible to come to the conclusion that any of it is acceptable.

I would like to reiterate my claim from years past:

Iwould neversupport the theft, reproduction and redistribution of MSP's movies through DVD burning or internet file sharing, as it is illegal and therefore cannot be conscientiously condoned.

I honestly don't know what to think right now, but I just think things are strange thats all. I'm not a fan of bashing, and I like MSP videos anyway. But yeah I just don't like to see the way people are on here, and they way they like bandwagon. Its dumb.

and I am not saying you are bandwagoning, because I respect your opinion and thoughts more then most everyone else on this site. But most of these kids just want something to hate. And thats not how skiing is. or should be.

Lots of people are bandwagoning. But in this case, the bandwagon was started for a very good reason... well... more like half a dozen very good reasons and several others that are merely persuasive.

Hahahahaha! It looks like Jon is stealing money from that poor old woman! I don't think it's Jon actually stealing! And those terrrible fetuses...they look ready to be eaten!

And why is that lime green teddy bear snuggling so closely with that big flame...it seems like that totally radical teddy bear might be burned by that flame!

I don't need someone "official to clear it up" thanks tho, official as in this kids friend whos brothers infant child says, I don't care. I do know that logical posts defending this topic are being deleted by the mods and I don't understand why. But they had very good points. So mebbe you guys should go ahead and repost the posts you deleted for the sake of making MSP look bad?

FUCK MSP!

gotta keep this sticky at the top!

GotamaBCshred you can go fuck yourself and your lack of knowledge. stay in montana and keep painting for your $10 bindings! WOMO!

That just old bud. I am 19 and an independant contractor. And ski all over the place in the winter. So yeah talk shit, I don't even care who you are, your still a total whiny bitch to me.
