AMs doing as good or better tricks than pros....

i have noticed that a lot of ams, or non pros, doing better stuff than the pros...or just as sick. For instance, i skied with Brent Abrams at High North, he was going as high or higher than Tanner outta the quarter pipes and doing 9s just as sick...Yes, hes sponsored, but know one cares who he is. No one knows who he is even tho he can do the same stuff Tanner can. Or another example.

There was a guy, who we just call Frenchie, and at the end of the season (everyone knows the HUGE gap to flat, gap to down that Crighton hits and gaps the bottom in the Ready Fire Aim trailer) he 450ed to the down, he didnt even hit the flat...it was incredible...probably be in a movie or two next year. NO PRO EVEN THOUGHT ABOUT IT and he did it.... why arent these people getting noticed? that kinda sucks...

this other kid i was just talking to made another good point...LIam Downey...he is soooo sick i hear, but only east kids really know him. That sucks because he is really stylie

theres no doubt that alot of these kids are incredible skiers, but they usually lack consistency. sure they may have a day where they can pull off this really sick stuff, but then maybe they get to a competition and just cant come up with what it takes to win. people like tanner are more consistent though, and although they might not be throwing down the same stuff as the other kids, they are usually more consistent.

^ excellent point. But still why arent they in the filming scene. They probably dont have the consistency to win the X games or something, but they could be stars if they stuck a 450 on, 450 off on a gap-to-flat-to-gap-to-down with a sex change in the middle gap...stick it once and that is all you would need

because the pros are already pros. they dont have anything to prove.

you cant be pro just because you can bust a couple of hella dope tricks, you have to be pretty cnsistant and be polyvalent..

Brent and FRenchie seem like sick skiers and liam is off the hook they will get recognition at one point for sure.

for brent going as huge as tanner, well that's far from being true, tanner was boosting a good3 feet higher and traveling from the center of the q-p to the extrem left of it doing super smooth 9 grabbed the hole way... yea he was going focking huge (not dissing on brent or anything.. just putting the facts)

okay...i am just saying they should be in some movies, because they are good, i am not saying they should be as good as Tanner and Jon at everthing. And i was there...on the deck Brent was going as big as Tanner, and doing the same trick, maybe not as long of a grab...but you cant do that...

I can see your point. I ski around Tahoe and there is a guy up here who busts DSpin 1260's like its nothing, but only has some small sponsorships I think. I would agree that it has to do with competitions and getting your name in ski industry eye.

i think most of these sick ams are one hit wonders, and until they broaden their skills, then they will be pro. For example, dash longe can't spin over 540, but he is in a higher position then that guy you mentioned who can pop d12's like nothin, i think it is because dash can do everythig 540 and under

There is alot that goes into a pro rider, it's not all about who can do the biggest trick.

Sure, it helps, but it's not the whole enchilada.

For one, marketability. Companies want a poster boy who can represent them, so image does play a role.

Your attitude on and off the slopes.

Your connections. Knowing the right people.

Consistancy

Competition standings.

And sometimes it's all about just being in the right place at the right time.

Maybe Frenchie and the other guy's 5 minutes of fame will come.

Eat. Sleep. Breathe. Ski.

 
I saw some kid at the river one day, he was pulling every thing and all of it was so slow and huge. He was better then some pros i have seen.

The ones who are that good will be pro's over time, It just takes a while to get the connections and the recognition. If your as good or better than the pro's than you will be a pro if you work at it.

i read somewhere on this site that liam got picked up for DNA's pro team. does that make him a pro?

my level of radness... it just can't... be quantified.
 
I think a big part of it too for someone like Liam is that I never heard of him at any competitions besides East Coast events. If you look at a lot of the big names they are traveling international a couple of times a season. Although, this could be expensive if you do not have a sponsor to pick up your travel tabs.

yes, Frenchie rocks almost all oakley gear, but i dont think he is sponsored by them...he could be though... he always skis with jr. Martinez and junior has Oakley as a sponsor, so he might of put in a good word with Oakley for Frenchie

Ya liam got picked up by DNA for their pro team, finished up some photo shoot with Chricton in company a few weeks ago. I'm not positive if he is on the dyna pro team yet but he is definately hooked up with them fo sho. He also signed with a canadian based clothing company (correct me if I'm wrong someone), I forget what they are called but they have some sick stuff. There were a few other team riders including JP Auc. I'm pretty positive big lee is hitting up the x-games next year, maybe us open? Also he killed it at superpark this year. yeah, word to what stephen said, i was there when frenchy was gapping to the down of that step-up rail gap, only once did he actually make it to the rail and he came off switch, but then bailed out when he was riding away. he never got it much cleaner than that because it was a silly huge gap to a tiny ass rail (in comparison to the size of the gap at least)

nobody ever said that there aren't kids as good as the 'pros' in the industry, it's just that they have bigger names than everyone else. it's like that in every aspect of life - music, movies, sports, etc etc... some people are superstars that everyone knows, others are not that are still just as good or maybe better, that's just the way it always has been and always will be

they aren't pro cause they can't sell themselves, they aren't ready to look at being a pro skier a a buisness, and not just how good you are

the other reason these kids arent in alot of movies is because whos name would u rather see on the cover brent adams or whatever or tanner hall. just because someone does one thing that may resemble some pros is deffenately not a factor.

tanner worked his way up by coming up with crazy new stuff for every one to learn, fakie to fakie cliff, switch 450-270 out etc.

once these guys give tanner something to learn they will be noticed and if they are that good why arent they competing and winning.

just because your a sick skier doesnt mean your ganna be pro. you need to be marketable, companys want people on their team, that when other people look at them they want to buy all the gear they are riding. also for girls it sucks but you almost have to be pretty, check out the new freeskier when it comes out and tell me that one of those girls isnt cute...
