Amplid skis are short...why!!

I have been contemplating getting a pair of antidogmas or townships for the upcoming season and i just checked amplid's site and neither of these skis come in anything linger then like 176 or 178...and thats just too short me.....so that sucks, they should make 183 or 184 imo
 
amen. i don't know why companies make park skis so short...dumont skis 181s and hes like 5'4''. i bet 90% of pros/AMs use the longest length available.
 
ive been told by some who works for amplid that their skis measure longer then they are markd and the reason they do that it for sales. apparently more people are scared off by the 180+ length park ski. i guess their 178 antidogma's are like 181 or 2.
 
Can someone from amplid confirm this? if the antidogmas are actually 181+ that would make a difference for me...
 
makes sense.

I know K2 does the same thing... they measure effective edge rather than tip-tail. thats why Hellbents are really like 199's lol.
 
yeah I'm gonna pm the amplid rep and find out about this.....cause that would make a difference for me too...I just can't go shorter than 181 or 182...its like a physical and mental block lol
 
yea I feel the same way, there is no way I could convince myself to buy a ski in the 170's...

Let us know what the Amplid people say..
 
And what is that supposed to mean? I don't care if it skis like a 181, I want to know if it is 181??? That is kind of a vague answer....
 
i'm gonna go out on a limb and say no...
its ok tho cause it saved me a bunch of money, the disorderlys were cheaper. looks like i'll be sticking with the k2 179, thats as long as it gets as of now.
 
not hating, i like icelantic a lot, i got a chance to demo some and they were dope aside from the short issue
 
i got my 08 townships 176 today and i measured them (i measured going with the slope of the tips keeping the measuring tape against the ski) and the lenght i got was 180cm.
 
i ride 171s but im 5'6" and cant ski like dumont and sammy with their 180's or w/e. big mtn skis are 179's but i cant do that for park, just too much ski for me, but i get that u taller folk like a longer ski.
 
yea i got my invader 171s when i was like 5'7"ish and then the next year, i was 5'10" and they felt so short. that why this year i bumped up to a pair of 181s. they really arent that long. they come up to about my forehead. chronics btw
 
yeah I already got my hellbents a while back...they're in my room right now just waiting to get some bindings mounted on them and get buttering!!

But now I'm looking for my park specific ski (I'm buying two pairs of skis this winter) and I was planning on getting urban punx again, but I thought I might consider some other possibilities just because....
 
they're not really measuring effective edge, but basically measuring the ski without accounting for the tail, if that makes sense. its the same way they measured their all mtn skis the past few years. basically, the extreme, silencer, missdemeanor, and missconduct measure about 3cm longer than listed, and the new molds for this year measure a bit longer; i.e. the 179 disorderly is actually a little longer than the 178 extreme.
 
Punx are hot, just got in a set of 09's lightly used, but dims seem decent and ski feels nice. my first recommended center mount ski (have surface watch lifes that forward a bit, but not centered). Benchetler was riding these in Joystick's Hot Lunch Video. Flexes just a little looser than the watch life's.
 
yeah i had urban punx all last season and they were my favorite ski by far! thats why i wanna get another pair!
 
So, therefore they really are 176 or probably shorter. Going with the curve of the ski like that adds considerably to the length.
 
i measured again this time with the skis on my floor with topsheet down. I marked where the tips ended then i measured it and i got 180-181cm
 
If you would have listened to me i said brandon from amplid told me that at least their anti-dogma;s measure longer then 178, i didnt ask him about any other of their skis. also i have skied the dogma's and they are really sick.
 
Hahaha.... This means I'm on 172s.

I own 181s, 179s, 191s, an 189s (Hellbents, they are really 195s).

And yes, the Hellbents measure about 6cm longer than K2 says they do.
