Americans in Vancouver BC

Are you able to get a student visa and attend school in Vancouver? Are you in a very recruitable career field? Are you married to a Canadian? Also...any criminal convictions?

Vancouver is for a select portion of the population, not rlly a bum ski spot

I am good at bumming it places that aren’t meant for ski bums. Im sure there’s sub $800 usd rooms out there thats all I need once Im legally in

Too far from skiing and no public transportation to the mountain. I wannabe in a city and less than an hr from skiing. SLC and Vancouver r rlly my only options and SLC is wack

You can definitely find a room for $800 USD, at least in North Vancouver, or Burnaby or something not too far out. The exchange rate turns that into $1050-ish CAD right now.

lmao this is a classic ns member terrified of cities. Idk if you think I mean im planning on living in my car when I say bumming it but thats not it. Just plan to work as little as possible and ski as much as possible Even if I was planning on living in my car id be fine. Ive lived in cities all my life Im not scared of homeless drug addicts (who do a good job of keepin all the kooks out)

UTA is pretty convenient honestly in the city at least. Ski Busses are an issue though. It should be required by the LCC/BCC resorts that they should start footing the bill for alternate transit/shuttle solutions instead of making other entities do it for them seeing as they are solely responsible for the congestion and packing their ski areas every day.

Yeah until they go postal and stab you on the bus or smoke meth outside your house and take a shit in your yard + a city government that would rather harbor them vs. provide mental healthcare solutions. Its not NIMBYism at all when its fucking downright terrifying just trying to commute to work and some guy coked-out of his mind wants to harm innocent bystanders.

I grew up here so I’m bias but it’s pretty nice getting to go to a local mountain whenever within driving 20 min, but transiting around isn’t bad at all and it’s a pretty nice city, but every city has their issues yenno

ya I just don’t find homeless ppl with drug addictions or mental health issues “downright terrifying.” My educated guess having lived in many cities with many homeless is that they are no more or less likely to kill or hurt you than the average person. Sure they might act sketchy or cause a scene but the vast majority are harmless. Just gotta be street smart and aware of your surroundings when in any city. Just for some context, in 2021 in SLC (a tame American city with 1/3 of vancouvers population) there were 95 homicides. In Vancouver the same yr there were 60

No culture outside of the outdoors. Outdoors community is elitist and full of trustafarians (although thats kinda everywhere). Just a very vanilla place. The skiing is great though obvi

Edited to say: also the food scene in slc is awful (fast food suburbia strip mall capitol of the world) but the food scene is amazing in van

you are a fucking idiot if you think working as little as possible, while also being able to afford to ski as much as possible is a feasible idea in the most expensive city in canada.

a studio anywhere in van is 1200$+

unless you already have a living situation set up, and/or a decent paying job, all i can say is good luck bud. im sure you'll get deported soon enough, canada does not like broke americans. good luck with that visa "i just want to work as little as possible and ski hella sir" lmao

What I’m saying, buddy thinks shit is just sweet in every country

The best way to get to Canada is through Australia, they love Australia.

I feel like every third person at Whistler is someone from AUS or NZ.

people who talk shit about US immigration policy being too strict have clearly never read canada's. you're not getting in unless you're br*tish, a neurosurgeon, or get astronomically lucky on canadian tinder

Ski bums can get into Canada via Roxham Rd. Everyone else is doing it.

Seems like you've got your sights set OP. People will always give you reasons not to, and they're probably right too. But never let people convince you not to do something you wanna do!

Such a minor pocket of an otherwise beautiful and amazing Canadian city. Go to any downtown beach at sunset and tell me that doesn't improve your life.
