my mum had a similar experience when she visited the old US of A. she was in a cafe and and she ordered a BLACK coffee (without milk) and the waitress was horrified that she could be so racist. i mean there is a point where you should be able to use the work black and clearly not be making any reference at all to black people. its like the word has become a fucking taboo.
