American History X

I watched this movie today, and for some reason I liked it. Alot. It touched me in a way that most movies don't and I cried, I won't lie. The basic plot is that its a white supremiscist (sp?) guy is all into gangs and shit and was first corrupted by his dad, who was racist and murdered by blacks. His hate grows and he kills two black guys and goes to jail. In jail he realizes that blacks aren't half bad when his buddy (black guy) saves him from a beating. When he gets out, he cuts ties with the gangs and tries to get his little brother out of it too. It was a great movie, and I'll even give you reasons why:

Acting:

- The acting was sick. There is one scene where the man character has just killed two guys, and he's being arrested for it, and he stares at his brother and the hate you see in his eyes (not towards his bro fyi) is fricken palpable.

- I could really see the change in him during his time in jail. It was planned out and acted really well, and it was awesome.

Shots:

- Overall, the shots in this movie were varied and interesting. The beginning is a montage of shots of the ocean, and at the end it links back to those shots. Pretty cool eh?

Message:

"Hate is unnecessary baggage"

Dopesauce

I won't give away the end because that was the part that made me cry, and I don't want to ruin it. I don't want anyone hating on me for being sensitive...okay, maybe a little b/c this is NS and I guess I'm asking for it, but anyways, it made me value my little brother and my friends and my life. Pretty deep eh?

Okay I'm done.../speech

you know what? I was just watching it, on TV, which I assume you were doing as well, and i gotta say, you need to watch the uncut dvd version, the tv version doesnt do it justice

this is the most powerful film i have ever seen, by far. The scene at the dinner table with the Jewish teacher is absolutely unreal how raw his hatred is, along with the scene in the grocery store.

i cried at the end too. great movie, even, in my opnion, the best movie.

we watched it in grade 12 sociology, in that it is possible to unlearn a prejudice. For me the strong point of the film was the camera and acting, story was strong as well, but the somewhat black/white toned senses really set a senses of them and tone. Really well shot, thoroughly enjoyed it, and we watched it in school so double booyahkashaa.

I bet it is. They did a pretty poor job of replacing all the swears too, because no one would say "Screw you!" while getting buttraped, and even that made it less powerful. I'll have to get my hands on a DVD sometime.

that movie is fucking sick and i agree with the comments about how you need to watch it on DVD. i saw it on TV first then the real version and it hits you hard even after seeing it once

^agreed that its his best work but norton really has done so much good stuff from fight club to rounders
