AMD or INTEL desktop

if i want a computer for mainly editing and playing games which should i get. idk the difference between the 2.
 
get a dual core. intels usually have a higher gigbyte. which is better. except for the fact that they are less efficent than an amd. so lets say you get a 2.3 gig intel duo core. its really only as efficent as a 2gig amd. on that note unless you want to pay an arm, leg, and left testicle for an intel that is as efficnet as an amd. go with the amd. i would highly recomed the amd 64 x2. gateway offers decent comps with the x2 for about 800 bucks with 2gigs of ram. they got shitty video cards. but you can upgrade thoes later of newegg.com
 
games out now don't really take advantage of dual cores. Dual cores are essentially the exact same thing as having dual processors (except some lower latency communications amongst processors).

The short answer is that it's almost always better to have more processors. If your primary function is to play games, you probably won't notice any performance increases for some time...you'd see better performance from getting a faster processor, better card, etc.
 
AMD. I would suggest getting a dual core, even though right now you won't notice a huge performance difference, everything coming out in the next few months will take advantage of the new technology.
 
ok you dont need the latest and greatest processor for gaming. if gaming is gonna be the primary make sure to invest at least $300 if not more in your graphics card. personally i would wait about 2 months to buy a comp, by then amd shoudl be about ready to release their newwest processor so the price on intels should go down. i would purchase a middle of the line intel core 2 duo processor, a motherboard that supports dual SLI, 2 GB ram, at least 250 Gb hard drive, and a not top of the line but close graphics card that is SLI complatible (then wait for the prices to drop on graphics cards and pick up another of the exact same grapics card so you can do SLI. If you are up for editing more than gaming Hard drive space is a big deal probably 500 Gb if you are relatively serious about it. with editing you wont need to run two graphics cards in sli one would do just fine. For editing the faster the processor the better.
 
also AMD is laggin behind intel in the performance of their processors and wont be catching up for a while until their quad core CPUs come out, and honestly that is overkill for anything but servers or some super serious guys which you are not
 
what are you talking about man, amd kicks intels ass, sideways... you can get dual amd's, and that would kick an intel duo so bad it'd fry it. they best thing you should do is get two amd's, and 2 video cards, plus you can get a physics processor that would make everythign run so damn fast it'd blow any "consols" out of the water... not that its all that hard, thats if you want to spend money for a computer you wont have to upgrade for games for like 2 or 3 years... or more
 
um, no. you obviously haven't heard of the new intel core 2 duo aka conroe. now, THAT, kicks amd's ass in every way possible.

i am an amd man all the way but right now intel has a huge leg up as far as processing power. however i did forget about one thing... the fact that amd bought ati. now this lends the possibility to get some outstadning performance in the future once amd can optimize their processors to work extremely well with ati graphics cards, but this is not now and wont be for a while. if you wanna talk about going two processors or more with amd then you can do the same with intel. amd isnt the only dual processor board .
