Am I too old to ski park in the summer?

Got injured. Out for three months. I really want to get back on skis before november so i wish I could shred some park this summer.

What's (and where) the best way to do so in North America when you're a 24 year-old non-pro granpa?

Thx for helping me out!

You're just 24. That's awesome man. I'm happy there's guys out there like you still shredding. Sadly I can't answer your question

Go to a camp as an adult. MHSSC allows adult campers all summer and even has an all-adult session at the end of august, though I would suggest going much earlier. You don't stay at the main campus but you hang out there and eat there. If you can't afford even MHSSC (the cheapest camp at a little over 1000), then just go to Hood by yourself or with friends. Better public park than Whistler. Camp at trillium lake or the airstrip and ride pubby for a couple weeks in early July. It's sick up there.

Yikes I hope 24 is not old I am turning 27 and do not feel old in the least bit. Sure I don't ski park as much or intense(Though some is always necessary in the Midwest). I still get out with some friends and do summer set ups and urban sessions. If you still enjoy park and can afford the camp I am sure you will have a great experience and if not do whatever suits your means. Age should not be a factor though do what makes you happy.

i think he has a 10.00 rating cuz i turned it all the way up to 10/10 and it was back to where it was before i touched it. must be all the props for shredding summercamps at 24 (NOT that thats old or anything)

hey thank you all for your answers.

skiing is my single favorite thing in life, but I sadly feel like everyone sort of stops after 21 or something. At least in my home mountain Avila (I know it's much different in the West). But I remember my last summer at Momentum in Whistler 7 years ago and as much as i loved it I want a totally different vibe. are public parks any good? or should i suscribe as an independent or something? and is there any fun to be had in hood (i'm positive there is in whiss) outside the mountain? regardless of money.

thanks for your help i appreciate!

Timberline (Hood) summer public park is REALLY good. At the end of June this year there were something like 6 medium/large jumps in public with a bunch of jibs too. If you're looking for apres-ski stuff at Hood, MHSSC has a sick aerials tramp, paintballing, rafting and other things; Windells has all that but in greater quantities and the airstrip is legendary for it's debauchery if you're not part of a camp. Don't know about Whistler village in the summer, though they have freeride that Timberline doesn't (but might this summer if I'm not mistaken).

What is the vibe you're looking for or looking to avoid?

You are never to old to ski park. There are a couple of 30+ guys I have seen shredding around COP's park, they can only throw threes and ones but no one really cares. I have not heard a single guy say anything negative about them, however a couple of people have mentioned how they wished their dad's could shred like that.

Dude are you kidding me? 24 years old no problem. I was still working at High North then, which was way gnarlier than just going to camp. Find an adult session if you're uncomfortable, but if you want to progress just go to one of the normal sessions and throw down with the youngsters... they'll keep you progressing. :)

Besides, who the hell decided that 24 was old... and how is the argument of "my body is too old" when all the big mountain guys are way older than that?

Is big mountain all of a sudden super easy on the body?

Methinks gigantic cliffs have to be somewhat trying.

f*ck your age.

im 28 and this was my first real season in the park.

my age isnt gonna stop me from doing something i love.

this this this. public park is awesome, everyone is so stoked to be shredding in the summer, theres no hate or negative feelings. im 23 and i rode there all summer with kids that were 16-30. such a sick vibe.

because you dont fall nearly as much in true big mountain. Especially the pros shredding in AK, because 1/10 falls is a season ender.

in park, to progress, you are going to fall alot, and land in all sorts of funky angles while spinning, and generally just get beat up. to be able to do this on a daily basis you need to have steroids, or the recovery ability of an 18 year old. when youre 25+ bruises, and strains take longer to heal, and your ligaments arent so stretchy anymore.

you can still shred park, but if you wont want to push yourself as hard, because debilitating chronic pain for the rest of your life isnt worth it.

all right all right. I really like what i hear about Hood. But when i'm done skiing i don't want to go paintball or anything, but just chill and party. It sounds like that may be possible over there and i'm glad to hear it. Public Park sounds great in Hood, or some adult session even. Thanks for the insight.

About the ''being too old'' debate: my thread title was misleading. I don't want to infer that 24 is too old to ski park, otherwise i'd be depressed as shit. But when I see Windells or Momentum edits all summer long, where 12 year olds learn 360s and then go off the mountain to have a 12 hours long food fight, I question my fitting in. I'm really happy to learn from you guys that this perception was biased.

I'm 24, I work long hours as a doctor, but still most of the time I'm thinking about the next new move i'm going to pull on my next park sesh. I have come to think that this was just part of my identity, and independent of how old I was. Up to my injury last month, I was reaching a new peak each year, each session even. And i wish to keep on progressing when I'm back. Although I have to repeat that in Quebec, very few people my age still ski park with the same intensity as when they were 16 or 20.

Thx for your comments! I'm getting pumped about this summer now!

Come down to Bariloche w/ me this summer. Much better than the glacier and the party goes til the sun comes up. You'll only feel too old when you try and ski after closing down the club at 6am.

@hfisher

i don't know how karma works. it's probably because of my videos.

@effectivo

that sounds exactly like what i would like! but i only got a week this summer. love south america though.

If you're a doctor, spend a bit more money and get down to Chile or NZ! Growing up has its downsides in terms of responsibilites and working, but one of the upsides is diposable $$!

And you're not too old to ride park, I'm 29 and am still learning new stuff.

this 33 year old mormon dude named Kip at park city throws the fattest lincoln loops ive ever seen...not even shitting you he throws em off 60 foot jumps and hes really fun to ski with.

you only play paintball if you go to camp

people in govy drink 7 days a week. youll have no trouble finding a party after shredding at hood. just avoid high cascade. fuck that camp.

oh man im 21 and I feel just like you ahah just feels weird to ride around in the park where average age is like 16... lol just feel like a crazy old man but w-e skiing makes me happy so I'll continue!

A good alternative for summer is prbly water ramps, there are some around Quebec city (D-Splash event they posted on the home page) and at Lake Placid, both 2h30-3h away from mtl. I think it's a great way to keep jump skills during summer and to try new tricks.

I'm 26, married, have a 3 month old baby, and am a scout master. I'm going to head to PC this next week to teach one of my scouts a thing or two on how to hit bigger jumps. Provided King's is open to the public. I can't wait for my son to be old enough for us to go build jumps together. My dad is 53 and he still comes to build jumps with us occasionally. He's out throwing front & back flips. My goal is to be doing it until I'm in my 60's.
