Am I the only one who doesn't like music?

I listen to music in my truck, but apart from that, I have no inclination whatsoever to listen to any kind of music. I find this really weird since people say it's 'their life', use it to get pumped up for games or ski to, but I don't even do that. Am I weird or am other people like this too? sorry for the randomness of this thread

I don't understand...part of my rent is paid for by music...it's such an integral part of my life that I couldn't fathom living without it.

I think the answer you're looking for is yes, you are.

I find it very weird when people say they don't listen to music. Looking throughout history, music has been a huge aspect for many civilizations. It is proven to affect mood and stress levels as well. I think that people who say they don't like music have never spent the time trying to find something that they do like. They listen to the shit on the radio, realize it sucks, and then don't want to listen anymore.

A can never listen to music while Im skiing cause I cant focus as well on my coordination. Its hard to explain it just makes me ski worse, but I couldnt stand life without music. Im sure the fact that Im in a band doesnt help that though.

When listening to music you enjoy, your body releases 'pleasure chemicals' that make you feel good. So you can think of music kinda like a drug. Maybe your body just doesn't release those pleasure chemicals to music but instead to other things (ie physical activity, hobbies, completing tasks, etc)

Music is very closely tied to emotions.

So if you wanna like chill out on a long drive, party all night long, reminesce about an ex, get pumped up for a sports game, etc. you can use music to help you set the mood your in or want to be in.

Music is also like a drug in that you can build up a tolerance to it so you need more and more to get the same amount of happiness from it. Most people seem to get more and more and more into music as they get older (starts in middle school and grows throughout high school and college and even your earlier adult years) until most people find something more pleasurable or worthwhile (career, relationships, etc.)

The question is...do you actually not like music? Or do you just not get that much pleasure from it?

Are there any songs you have ever found catchy or enjoyable to listen to? Cause those are the songs you should listen to.

Try out some different genres, you never know the stuff that sounds good to you not many people you know could be listening to.

This. I can use music to completely calm me down or get me stoked whenever I need to, maybe try spending a night or two exploring different types of music, you might be surprised what you find

My mind is blown!

And to OP. There were a few year before I got into skiing where I didn´t listen to any music. I remember it as dull as fuck.

I tried to learn guitar during my early years, like 3rd grade to 7th, never caught on.I took lessons but didn't have enough interest to keep playing it.

I really like melodic music, and music that gives you goose bumps, like Time by Hans Zimmer. Of late thats the only song i've found that i like. I've listened to all genres but one hasn't really sparked my interest. I like the bass lines on hip-hop though, thats kind of ok

I feel bad for you man, you dont know the feeling of a song that just clicks. Ive been playing guitar for a while, and I dont know what it would be like to not listen to music. Try some different kinds, your bound to like something.

So we have something to work off of. This thread is now trying to show OP good music!

or some chill hip hop with a good instrumental

I knew someone that didn't like music either, and what we concluded was that it was a lack of exposure. For example, I remember always waking up on Sunday mornings as a kid to my dads grateful dead albums, and the smell of French toast cooking. His parents never played music, and so he had no subconscious exposure. Even though I don't particularly like grateful dead anymore, I can appreciate the genre. And from there I was able to explore different types and styles. He never had that so it was never norm to be listening to music of any kind. It was more distracting then comforting because he was more sensitive. Either way, there's nothing to do about that, I'd say just explore different genres to find what you like. As said before, different types for different moods.

This weird fat smelly arab kid in my grade dosen't like music, yet plays the drums and bass guitar. he's also anti social as fuck.

here's the ultimate test. If you can't get down and jiggy to this song then im afraid all hope is lost for you.
